Nice lamp if you don't put a light bulb in it. The top of the bulb is way above the top of the shade with a standard bulb in it. I have looked but not found a bulb that is short enough to be usable. The bulb is positioned in the top third of the shade. I was disappointed that this information was not in the specifications. I guess I will just use it with out the bulb, it is a nice looking lamp, just not lit.

I bought this when amazon had it on sale. single digits price. bought 2 of them shipped. The lamp shade as others have said will leave the bulb showing. So it looks horrible. But I cut up and added extension to the lamp shade metal frame. Now the shade is much higher and the bulb shines inside the shade. Not directly visible on top. Now it looks great.

While the lamp itself is nice the "shade" it comes with looks way different than the picture. It is actually a mosiac of shards of silver, reflective mirror! it is not the nice soft gold/amber color pictured. I reminds me of a 70's disco ball and it really doesn't go with the antique bronze base of the lamp! We managed to find some glass shades intended for pendant lights at the local home improvement store and now the lamps look much better but it was more effort(and money) than I wanted to spend on lamps.

This lamp is perfect for outdoor use. It is heavy and stands up to the wind. The cord is heavy-duty outdoor grade and the mechanical components (light base, cord, etc.) are well protected from the elements. The light is protected with a heavy-duty glass jar resembling a mason jar turned upside down and screws into base to keep the elements out of the lighting socket. Even the push button on/off switch is weather protected. This lamp has excellent workmanship and high quality. There is two shade coverings, one plain taupe and the other with a design. We were looking for a lamp that can pass for the typical side table lamp but with untypical attributes like weatherproof. This one does it well in many aspects. It has mass to it bringing its center of gravity low and robust enough to handle everyday winds. I like the way they did the waterproofing of the bulb. It is an inverted jar design that is big enough to hold even a CFL. The dual candlestick are faux design elements so if you thought you can have dual bulbs, this is not your lamp. This is a single switch and not a three way bulb lamp. The finial is attached to the shade frame and the shade frame is attached to a friction ring that slips over the inverted bulb. The typical design lamps can allow you to lift the lamp by the finial, but if you attempt this, you won't get far. The shade frame will slide off the bulb jar sending the lamp base to the floor. This is not a bad design, since the finial was never intended as a lifting/carry handle, but I thought mentioning it since most people try lifting their lamps that way and this lamp will unpleasantly surprise you. The shade is not round, but rather oval; a design feature the original Amazon profile photo or description fails to convey.

I'm in central Florida on the coast, so in a year I will update this lamps corrosive resistant properties.

This lamp is cute. Perfect for a beach-inspired room, as my bedroom is. Perfect size to sit on my dresser. It is well made, for being from China. The inside of the lampshade is plastic, so use no more than a 40 watt incandescent bulb or a 13 watt max small CFL. It does not have an in-line switch to turn on and off. (I hate those). Delivery was quick. I am very happy with it.

I was expecting more than I got for a $30 item; it's a good concept that has been poorly executed. I thought that the handle would be sturdy plastic, but it's a bendable material that seems flimsy & not well-made. It's bendable so that you can adjust the angle at which you view the object to be magnified, but this feature doesn't work, because the stem/handle won't hold the angle at which you place it. The handle bounces back into a straight shape, so that there's basically only one angle with which to view objects. The battery compartment is poorly designed & hard to open; the finger notch is near the metal stand, which makes it difficult to get your finger in there to pry it open (it would be much easier to open if the notch were near the end of the handle, not the center of it). The metal "stand" is flimsy & it's hard to balance the magnifier on it. I give it 2* instead of 1*, because it is effective as a hand-held 3x magnifier (with a small 5x "sweet spot"). As a $30 3x magnifier, it's a poor value, & I'll be returning this item.

Received as a gift (not from Amazon) and the hole in the shade is off centre so it does not sit straight on the lamp base. Contacted Quoizel and they agreed to send another shade which also has a hole slightly off centre. The fault is obvious as the shade has concentric circles of small mosaic pieces, which, when they reach the top, have had extra pieces added to fill in the area on one side of the centre hole.

This is a very pretty lamp, but, having received 2 shades with the same fault, I wonder if there is a quality control issue. Will be contacting Quoizel again to see if I can get this resolved.

Update (10/8/12): Maria at Quoizel customer service referred our case (supported by photos of the 2 faulty shades) to whomever, to ensure the next replacement we were sent had a correctly cut shade. It arrived last week. The lamp looks so much better with a level shade.

I have revised my star rating to a 4 now we have a perfect quality lamp.

It didn't have a description for the type of bulb needed for the unit. Natural assumption is that it at least would need a "normal" size bulb! This unit requires a 15 Watt appliance bulb. Good luck finding that wattage! Hardly light enough for any use. Also, after going to 7 stores to try and find a 15 watt bulb :-( we found that there is so little light that it isn't worth the space needed to house the lamp. Then, because the glass top is so heavy, it broke off the lamp pedestal because it was only welded on using the crossbar above the light bulb!

Put in the 2 (included) coin batteries, set the time, set the programs, and it's good to go. Easy to set & program. Easy to switch between programs (or to inactivate the programs). And the manual override (to turn the current on or off) is sooooo easy just push on the front cover, and it pushes the on/off switch inside (no need to unlatch the cover). Really excellent by FAR the best timer I have seen,and worth the money. Also handles up to 1800 watts so can use it to control a space heater (many lamp timers max out at 300W).

This timer is accurate and easy to use unlike other timers I have used. There is a problem though this timer was made to handle up to 1800 watts but you can only use a 2 prong plug in. So if you have a three prong plug in you can't use it, or you have to by an extension cord to plug in to the timer and the plug your appliance into the extension cord.

This is a great lamp timer. It's capable of turning a lamp on every day based on your telephone area code coordinated with sunset times, and adjusts itself accordingly each day. There's a switch for daylight savings time. It has a battery back-up and doesn't have to be re-set when there's a power outage. The operation of the timer is completely silent, There are no dial noises or clicks when the lights come on. It also has an untimed outlet built-in, so it doesn't render one socket in an outlet inoperable. The construction seems sturdy, and the unit is certified by an electrical rating agency.

Minor problem:

Thought the batteries were dead as it wasn't working. Inspecting the battery holder again noticed the two metal tabs on either side could be push in. After pushing them in just a little put the batteries back in and the timer worked. Must not have been making contact until then.

Review:

First you set the time. Three buttons for that. The forward and back are used to change it.

Then you select program 1, 2, 1&2, or off and then edit the on and off times for whichever one you want.

Make sure the display shows the program you want to have working and that's pretty much it.

If you press on the front cover you can quickly turn what's plugged into the timer outlet on and off at will.

Well worth it.

Update (July 2013) -> It still works and has been working every night since 2007.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program For an office desk lamp in an office with a modern cast it will fit right in and look sharp. It isn't a lamp I'd have purchased ordinarily but I am very interested in LED lighting and this one became available for review through the Vine program for no cost. I wanted to rush the review a bit because the lamp delivered is not the lamp pictured although it is very close.

NOTE: The pictured item is NOT what you will get. I've uploaded two pictures of the base so be sure to look at them before ordering. The sphere instead of bar counterweight and the much shorter base cylinder makes the maximum height of the lamp a lot less than what's pictured for this item currently (Sept 25th 2012).

The lamp is shipped in one piece is very good packaging. The lamp itself is inside a made to order styrofoam case inside an inexpensive cardboard box which was inside the Amazon cardboard box. The cord is actually two pieces with the end of the cord terminating in a special thin two prong plug that plugs into a special adapter for your outlet. If outlet space is narrow you might have a problem. It is about the size of a narrow phone charger adapter.

Plug it in and go. Easy as that of course. The blurb about the choking hazard is with regards to the two piece electrical cord and wall plug adapter I guess.

This is, apparently, a bic lighter style lamp. The LED is not replaceable. So if that goes out the lamp goes in the trash or you fool around trying to get a warranty replacement lamp or perhaps a service center can replace the assembly? No way to tell from the contents of the package or the Amazon page. The simple instruction sheet is sensibly printed on an 8X10 piece of paper but the word 'warranty' is not mentioned anywhere on it. The only related thing is a mention of a damaged cord needing a qualified service tech for repair. The LED component is not made for self-service.

The light is not bright. I mean, really subdued like a night light subdued. That is perfect if you work in a darkened office and don't want to disturb others with a 100 watt bulb. If your decor calls for subdued lighting it will fit right in too. For example, if you are a teacher and you want a subdued light to do work while the class watches a film (or naps if that is your grade level), this lamp might be perfect since the arm will stretch it over what you are working on and direct the light down to the work space.

Along those lines, it is worth mentioning that you probably don't want to use it for long stretches in a darkened room. With your eyes in the dark and the work in the light it strains your eyes.

The LED component gets hot! Not like touching a long running edison bulb but you'll notice if it you touch it.

The adapter gets hot! Not dangerously for sure but you probably should have ventilation around it to prolong its life.

The instruction sheet advises against looking directly at the light source. Boy they aren't kidding. I saw spots for about 5 minutes lol. I think I counted 6 LEDs on the back of my closed eyelids while I was waiting for my vision to clear.

It is good looking and functional even if very dim compared to traditional bulbs. I knocked off a star for the hot-ish LED lamp housing, the limited height, the incorrect picture, and the disposable nature of the product.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The lamp is not as the manufacturer pictures it, but another reviewer helpfully furnished annotated pictures for what shipped: the lamp with the round handle and round counterweight is what I have. The electrical cord, about 5 ft long, does not seem to detach at either end, and the adapter at the other end may be too large for some openings in a computer desk and need an extension that will fit through.

The lamp itself is smart looking, although limited in physical function. When the arm is level, the light head is only 6" above the desk surface. The arm, at least on my lamp, will elevate up to 30 degrees from the horizontal -it can go a little higher, but not as high as the manufacturer's picture indicates and it won't stay at any setting above 30 degrees, at least on my lamp. 0-30 degrees is okay, however, and I have set the lamp base on a desk speaker (+ 5") and it works fine on a pedestal like that.

The light will well-light a working surface of 12-18" radius. As long as the light is below eye level it doesn't glare, and it seems to use minimal energy. The light does stay horizontal in any elevation, and can be adjusted to tilt upward ahead of the arm -it does not, however, tilt to either side of the arm, and you'd have to rotate the entire assembly on its base to move the light laterally. The LED light is not replaceable and that is a downside.

It came assembled and was reasonably well-packaged in plastic, with foam outside of that. Instructions are minimal; they do talk about plugging the wire into the adapter, but mine came with the adapter inserted and, judging by the feel, is not detachable, or at least I didn't want to chance it. No warranty in the paperwork.

In short: nice looking, reasonable as a precise-area lamp, esp. if you want low energy use or to avoid glare.

I've been using an older style lamp similar to this one, maybe 13 years old. It used a dual-level brightness bulb which IS replaceable. I've always used it in the low setting so I've never had to replace the bulb. The LED bulb on this one is NOT replaceable and has a lower brightness level than I am use to. Once the LED burns out (and eventually it will) the lamp will be unrepairable and end up in the trash. The packaging was secure, it only came with a one-page "directions" sheet, with no company warranty, logo, address, or phone number. My reason for downgrading to 4 stars is....the one they shipped has a loose wire/connection. Raising the lighthead up, down, or adjusting it turns the LED bulb off. That is frustrating, though I can live with it, but for a $75 item (Amazon price) I would expect better quality control.

Ordered 3 of these posts and got 2 immediately in perfect condition. The 3rd came later in open pkging so I refused, and then, came a 2nd time in open pkging so I canceled the 3rd post for now. The delivery is also a pain becuz U need 2 B home & they give U a 4-hr window, but even with all this trouble, I love the posts.

They are nice and solid. Of course it remains to B seen as 2 how they'll weather the winters here, and then, the humid summers, but I can always revise my rating if things go south.

They arms are plastic and flimsy. I slipped in a 5/8" dowel to make them more secure. The arms also don't fit tight to the post, so I got a black round rubber gasket, cut it in half, and slipped one half over one of the holes for the arms, and the arms stay tight and centered now. If the dowel isn't strong enough, I'll use a fiberglass pole, but couldn't find a 5/8". If you purchase a dowel, bring the arms with you as not every 5/8" dowel fit inside I had to "try" a couple.

I just really like the simplicity of the pole and it is sturdy and looks fabulous. I compared it to a pole at one of the stores and it was sturdier and less expensive.

For my 3rd pole, I'm getting the same kind, but with an electrical outlet at the bottom. Wish I had gotten 3 like this so I could have easily wrapped all poles with Xmas lights.

I've never wired anything, but with a little help, figured out how to wire these lamps (thanks to youtube), and I even cemented them in using quickset cement and it was sooo easy.

I am a 58 year old woman who has never done any of these things and was able to figure it out. A lot of work, but a lot of fun too.

I bought this as I had been looking for a good floor lamp for months. Couldn't find one locally that I liked. This one looked good so I ordered it from Amazon and it arrived badly damaged. Still looked like a good one so I asked for and got a replacement. Second arrived undamaged but either defective or just very poorly made. Three piece pole screwed together and onto base. Joining spots were awful very loose, as if threads were badly machined or stripped. Wiggled like a toy snake.

Called Amazon to have picked up (heavy) by UPS and returned for refund. Amazon to have it picked up in one day. They did great but lamp a real looser.

In addition to being poorly made, packaging was terrible. Very fragile, flaky Styrofoam molded material fell apart at the touch. Box was that thin paper-like cardboard often associated with Chinese imports. Even tape was thin and easy to tear.

I strongly recommend that you avoid this I can almost promise you won't like it.
