This lamp was not what I expected it to be. It was very light weight, easily knocked over, and it used a 40-watt bult, not a 70 watt bulb as indicated in the description of the item. It's basically an accent lamp, not the reading light I hoped for. When I called him, the seller indicated that although the lamp read 40 watt, I could safely use a 60 or 75 watt bulb. When I did not go for this, he wanted to send me another lamp at no charge so I would have 2 lamps and twice the light. I refused this since I wanted only one BRIGHT lamp. The seller was very accomodating in the return of the item, however, and refuned the full amount plus shipping.

General Electric makes these 42-watt (120-Volt, 150 watt equivalent) compact fluorescent light bulbs (or "CFLs"); and they do work pretty well! I used one of these bulbs for the main light fixture in my dining room area a few days ago; and I'm now starting to actually save a little extra money on my electric bill. I really like that these light bulbs last much, much longer than conventional "incandescent" light bulbs. This will last me for quite a few years.

One thing is very positive: for most lighting fixtures, you will not have to worry about the compact fluorescent light bulb fitting into the electrical bulb socket. They fit in very easily; I even compared the two metallic ends in the store to make sure they really were the same width and length! This truly manages to omit just as much light as a conventional 150 watt light bulb while only using 42 watts of energy.

There is one change, however, that I will have to get used to: these bulks don't exactly function the same way incandescent bulbs do. First, when you turn on the light, the bulb will flicker for about 15 to 30 seconds before turning on all the way. Actually, this isn't too bad. The second "feature" is that the light from the bulb isn't quite the same that you would get from an incandescent bulb. The light just seems slightly less intense although I admit there's not a major difference.

Overall, these bulbs DO save money and they fit most lighting fixtures. Do NOT choose these if you have a "dimmer" feature on your lighting fixture; I believe that they make special fluorescent bulbs just for that type of lighting fixture. I predict that you will definitely save money on your electric bill; and I really like that these bulbs last for years at a time. That's incredible; most of not all incandescent bulbs would have to be replaced much, much sooner than these bulbs will need to be replaced. I recommend compact fluorescent light bulbs ("CFLs") for people like me who want to go as "green" as soon as possible.

While looking at a competitor's bulb, I noted that it was 6.5" tall, so I paid attention to this GE bulb. There is no mention of bulb height, a serious omission IMHO. I went to GE's site and found there that the height of this bulb above the lamp socket is 6.4". That means that neither the GE bulb nor its competitor will fit in ANY of my table or floor lamps. Their lamp harps (the gadgets that support the shade) are all too short. Bummer! This will work in torchiere lamps or other applications where bulb height is not an issue.

What a bright light for so little used electricity.

This one CFL replaces six 60 watt incandescent bulbs in our ceiling fixture and also the output is much brighter. The package says saves $130 over the life of this bulb, if it replaced a filament 150 bulb. It must be twice the saving, as it replaces 300 hungry watts.

These bulbs are great. The use less watts than a conventional bulb, whoch is great. However, since these are 150-watt equivalent light output, they are extremely large in size. Their light output is room-filling for sure and this is why I bought them.

I would recommend stepping down to 100 watt equivalent, for size concerns in your lamps. Luckily and unluckily, my floor-standing lamps do not have a shade from the top. Luckily, they fit the lamps. Unluckily, they are higher than normal bulbs an stick out a little, blinding you with their light output.

This lamp is far from looking like a real Tiffany lamp...First, it is not made in glass but in some king of resin that feels like plastic when you touch it...(It ''bends'' when you press on each side...really like plastic!!!) The copper lining is very cheap, not even, and super thin.When you put the lights and turn it on, it looks as if some bulbs were missing, it looks half lighted...

I bought this lamp intending to upgrade it to make it an LED lamp, by dropping in a LED bulb module.

First off, when I got it, I was disappointed to find it used a 120 volt, GU10 base MR16-like lamp, NOT a bi-pin 12 volt MR16 lamp.

I bought some nice 120 VAC 9 watt 3 x 3watt Cree LED GU10 base, soft white (3000 deg Kelvin) MR16 style modules (at $15) for the lamp, and the resulting light output was excellent. Tho not quite as bright as the 35 watt incandescent lamp it came with, the light output was JUST FINE for reading... and then some. Tho these modules WOULD NOT dim, either with an old style dimmer or with one rated to work with CLFs and LEDs.

The switch on the base was a textbook case of totally stupid, incompetent user interface design: You had to grab it between two fingers and rotate it to turn the lamp on and off, and even then the feel of the switch was vague and disconcerting. Those with arthritis in their hands would have a hard time with this one.

I bought push on push off switches on Ebay for $3.00 each, and took the lamp's base apart.

This required an xacto knife to cut the felt, then had to remove 3 screws and a plate.

The push on push of switch DID NOT drop right into the hole left after removing the old switch... a dremel tool was needed to enlarge the hole slightly... but after that the switch dropped right nicely, and connected up nicely, too, using the wire nuts found inside the lamp.

So, in the end I got a very elegant bed-headboard reading lamp, LED-based, and with a

superb ergonomic push on push off switch.

If you are a tinkerer and can duplicate these efforts, you will wind up with a very fine lamp. If not, DO NOT BUY THIS, for off the shelf it has too many flaws.

A good combination of energy efficiency, great light output from a small compact lamp, doesn't get hot or heat the area around itself, and has an understated simple appearance. The fixture arrived promptly as promised. It works well but... it is veeery difficult to remove the shade (i.e. to replace a light bulb)once the fixture is installed. Still, knowing this, I would have made the purchase.

The shades were pretty, but the trim is glued on and when the bulbs heated up, the trim peeled away from the shades. One shed actually melted and the bulbs were only 20 watts.

I ordered the shades for our dining room chandelier. The ivory color is nice, not too white and not too ivory/yellow. The size is perfect for the chandelier candles. My complaint is that the fabric around the top and bottom of the shades is coming off the shades, on one shade it completely fell off (the first day we opened them). You can see the fabric pieces coming off as soon as you walk in the room. Unfortunately, I don't think this product is very high quality, although the color and shape are perfect they look cheap.

Update 3/13/13 The 2 I bought are still working fine and have been plugged in since I bought them. They have been in continual use since delivery in 2009.

I purchased this unit after trying many, many, many different types of night lights for elderly parents, one with Alzheimer's. Because my dad has advanced Alzheimer's and we care for him at home it is necessary that we have a night light that turns on and lights well enough for him to get out of bed in the middle of the night and walk safely. This has a night light built in AND a plug in for another stronger lamp to light up the room which triggers along with the sensor.

All of the other night lights I've tried are simply too weak, die too quickly, or have the plugs not face the correct direction in the wall sockets. In frustration I tried this unit and it seems to have alleviated all of those problems.

We rigged it nearer to where he gets out of bed and plugged in a good night lamp that is bright enough to light the room but not bright enough to wake my mother. This unit works perfectly for that. It does have a night light attached but it is not bright enough for my dad which is why the plug in for the lamp on this unit is perfect. This will probably be the last night light I'll have to get since it finally affords the amount of light needed for my father to see well enough to get around his room at night. I am pleased with this and very happy with the results. We've had no incidents with him walking into things at night ever since we got this. Prior to that we had sensor night lights in every socket and not one of those really helped. This is finally something we can count on for his safety.

Update 1/25/2013: The lights are still working perfectly as they were still new. We still keep the lamps plugged in but now they are for mom and I helping change dad at night. He's not been ambulatory or able to control functions any longer but he's still with us and still appears to be running very well (relatively speaking) just like these lights I got and am reviewing and still praising. These lights have been in use every day and night since they arrived in the house years ago. You absolutely cannot go wrong with these based on my experience after buying 2 units.

After some initial confusion re operation parameters, I found the sensor works quite well. I was initially confused because the sensor did not seem to work properly, then I realized it apparently has an ambient light sensor which prevents it from switching on & off when the ambient light is above a certain level (i.e., you can see). The night light is nice and can be folded down if you don't want to use it. I purchased the sensor because my mother is elderly and frequently gets up in the middle of the night. The sensor works quite well turning a light on & off using user preset timer options. Be careful not to buy an "occupancy" sensor unless that is specifically what you want. I wanted something which would turn off the light even when my mother was in the room, but not moving around, and this does the job perfectly.

Motion sensor mechanism will cease to function. Good for paper weight. If you also have an outlet that is controlled by a switch, for shutting power off -it will render this uSwitch useless. It died twice and I have to get replacements.
