I bought this for my dad for a Father's Day Gift. Lovely and beautiful. He would have loved it more if he was to open it...It was so unfortunate for us because my dad passed away and never got to opened it. Anyway, I opened it myself when I got to their place. This is a small lamp, but appears well made. It takes only a 25 watt bulb so it doesn't give out a lot of light but it looks very warm when it is on. It fits in with the Mission style I was going for.

I wanted a little table lamp for my Bonus Room. This is perfect. I purchased a Mosso with the desk clamp and occupancy sensor, and I'm extremely happy with it. OK, it's a desk lamp. But, if you're in the market, this must be the best one out there. Stylish, well-engineered, and highly functional. There is really a lot of attention to detail in the Mosso, which does not go unnoticed. Of course, it should be about half of the price, but you get what you pay for. We'll have to see how it works out in the long run, but I'm looking forward to never having to replace a bulb again. Very bright at its highest setting, and adjustable. Runs cold and uses barely any power. Positioning is very adjustable. Easy to assemble, based in the US, and according to the manufacturer it's environmentally friendly. If you can afford it, you won't be disappointed. Next time I need a lamp, I'm going to Koncept first.

First, the lamp is attractive and well-built. The quality of the light is OK for LED's -not as clear as halogens but then this lamp doesn't get so hot that it will burn you, which is why I picked this over a halogen light in the first place. The touch strip that controls and dims the light is located on the upper part of the arm just behind the lamp head (not on the base, as you might expect), and seems to work well.

However despite the high build quality, the design could use some improvement. First, the lamp head and arms are held in place by friction, and it is so tight (presumably so it doesn't sag) that you can't position it with one hand. If you try you'll just move the entire lamp around, so you have to hold the base or other arm with your other hand while positioning it. In other words, positioning the arms/lamp head is a two-handed effort, not smooth and easy the way some swing arm lamps that use springs are.

Second, when you try to adjust the lamp's position as I just described, your hand naturally wants to grasp the upper swing arm right behind the lamp head, but that is where the touch strip is. So it's too easy to change brightness or turn on or off when you try to adjust its position.

Third, the lamp head connects to the upper swing arm with a plug that looks vaguely like a headphone plug. It's not hardwired in. I'm not sure why it was built this way -connectors are usually more expensive than a hard-wired solution. This means you can replace the head if the LEDs go bad, which is good, but aren't the LEDs supposed to last a really long time anyway? In any event, when you adjust the lamp head, the connector gets rotated and and the light flickers, which is annoying. It would be better if it had a connection that didn't flicker when the head was moved around.

All in all, this is attractive and functional, but considering its price I wish I had waited for a version 2 that hopefully will fix some of these issues.

Update 3/13/13 The 2 I bought are still working fine and have been plugged in since I bought them. They have been in continual use since delivery in 2009.

I purchased this unit after trying many, many, many different types of night lights for elderly parents, one with Alzheimer's. Because my dad has advanced Alzheimer's and we care for him at home it is necessary that we have a night light that turns on and lights well enough for him to get out of bed in the middle of the night and walk safely. This has a night light built in AND a plug in for another stronger lamp to light up the room which triggers along with the sensor.

All of the other night lights I've tried are simply too weak, die too quickly, or have the plugs not face the correct direction in the wall sockets. In frustration I tried this unit and it seems to have alleviated all of those problems.

We rigged it nearer to where he gets out of bed and plugged in a good night lamp that is bright enough to light the room but not bright enough to wake my mother. This unit works perfectly for that. It does have a night light attached but it is not bright enough for my dad which is why the plug in for the lamp on this unit is perfect. This will probably be the last night light I'll have to get since it finally affords the amount of light needed for my father to see well enough to get around his room at night. I am pleased with this and very happy with the results. We've had no incidents with him walking into things at night ever since we got this. Prior to that we had sensor night lights in every socket and not one of those really helped. This is finally something we can count on for his safety.

Update 1/25/2013: The lights are still working perfectly as they were still new. We still keep the lamps plugged in but now they are for mom and I helping change dad at night. He's not been ambulatory or able to control functions any longer but he's still with us and still appears to be running very well (relatively speaking) just like these lights I got and am reviewing and still praising. These lights have been in use every day and night since they arrived in the house years ago. You absolutely cannot go wrong with these based on my experience after buying 2 units.

After some initial confusion re operation parameters, I found the sensor works quite well. I was initially confused because the sensor did not seem to work properly, then I realized it apparently has an ambient light sensor which prevents it from switching on & off when the ambient light is above a certain level (i.e., you can see). The night light is nice and can be folded down if you don't want to use it. I purchased the sensor because my mother is elderly and frequently gets up in the middle of the night. The sensor works quite well turning a light on & off using user preset timer options. Be careful not to buy an "occupancy" sensor unless that is specifically what you want. I wanted something which would turn off the light even when my mother was in the room, but not moving around, and this does the job perfectly.

it works as long the power to the outlet this item is connected to did not get cut like in power outages in neighborhood. After an outage, this item is useless. Motion sensor mechanism will cease to function. Good for paper weight. If you also have an outlet that is controlled by a switch, for shutting power off -it will render this uSwitch useless. It died twice and I have to get replacements.

I like the look of the lamp. I don't like the shoddy quality of the product. I had to cut the felt from the bottom so that I could tighten the nut on the lamp in order to keep it from spinning when it shouldn't. It's sloppy paint job on the base doesn't lend itself to calling it a quality product either for the dollars spent.

The trick is to buy a $9 300 watt bulb, put it in this, and bam, you have the ULTIMATE halogen light for your room. It is SOO brigh, and the lamp functions great. I do uderstand I guess what people are talking about with eventually the knob messing up, becuae the one I had before, it did break after years(!) what do you expect? but when it did, I went to home depot and got a plug in dimmer to put between the lamps cord and the wall outlet, problem solved. So far however these new lamps knobs are funtctioning beautifully and I am just so happy with the tons of clean light they put out. very happy

First the positives. It's got a heavy base, the metal pipes are solid, and overall, it looks pretty nice. If it was standing in a corner of someone's house, I'd probably think it was a nice lamp.

Sadly, it's standing in the corner of my house, and that means I know how much fiddling it took to get set up and working. Let's start with the packaging. Bring a vacuum cleaner, because the pieces are boxed with very flimsy, flaky styrofoam. The real problem with this isn't the mess, though. It's that all of the little pieces inside are tossed around in transit. This resulted in a broken bulb and glass cover in one of the two I bought, and I found the other bulb wedged into the side of the box on the other. Once everything is out, check all of the pieces, specifically screws. The lamp ships with many of the screws already in place, and they fall out easily. I found one on my porch after several minutes of fruitless sifting through styrofoam debris in my living room. And this brings us to the next issue, the bulb guards. Some nicer halogen lamps come with tempered glass plates to guard against anything falling into the bulb itself. This one comes with two poorly-assembled wire cages. The outermost is almost guaranteed to arrive bent out of shape (due to the flimsy, fine-gauge wires that were used), and though you can try, it probably will never end up looking like the nice dome that it was supposed to be.

After pushing together all of the pieces (the wire components don't actually have screw holes, they friction-fit onto the screws), the lamp *did* work, but I'm somewhat disappointed in the brightness. The bulb just isn't very powerful, and that's more or less the reason I went for a halogen lamp. Still, I am not afraid of it starting a fire; the electrical work is solid enough, and the guards (while somewhat ugly) are probably effective enough at avoiding a dust buildup or letting something fall into the bulb. I'll probably keep it (if only out of stubbornness from having spent too much money on it), but if you have the choice, I'd look elsewhere for a standing lamp.

Best Deals for Tall Halogen Torchiere

I was looking for a good bright halogen lamp like I had back in the 90's but was disappointed to find that secondary to a few incidents with home fires they don't sell them with the high wattage anymore. I thought this was a shame since the purpose of this product is high output indirect lighting. I believe these high wattage lamps can be used safely as long as they are placed in a proper location (they should be NOWHERE NEAR curtains or any potentially flammable objects, or in any location where they might be knocked over)

I did some research and settled on this product. First of all, it is not quite 6 feet tall I would put it at maybe 5'9" or so. I am 6 feet tall and I dont see the bulb when standing up so this is fine for me. The quality is so-so. Pretty much run of the mill cheap halogen torchiere made from 1.5" pipe. The base is sturdy and the dimmer seems to be of good quality. They include a safety cage to put over the bulb which I threw out. If you put the bulb near curtains of something flammable this thing isn't gonna matter and it otherwise obstructs light and looks funny.

So the reason I wrote this review is that i disassembled the lamp and examined the dimmer, it is a 500w halogen dimmer. The bulb type is a standard 118mm j3 halogen. I picked up a 500w bulb from a local dollar store and now I have what I wanted, a 10,000 lumen lamp that lights up a large room beautifully. The wiring handles the current just fine, the dimmer warms up a little bit, presumable its normal operation. Just keep in mind this produces more heat than light and should be used in cold weather unless you want it to do battle with your air conditioner (I stick with a fluorescent unit in the summer).

My wife and have used Halogen Torchiere type lamps for more than 20 years. We like/need the amoount of light you can get from a 300 or 500 watt Halogen lamp and the lack of glare of indirect lighting (using light bounced off white celing.).This lamp comes with a lower light output bulb and we replaced with a 300/+ watt halogen lamp. I had no issues with the initial quality of this lamp or assembling it... or any damage in shipping. I also bought a 300 watt lamp through Amazon. These type of halogen lamps(bulbs) are also sold at hardware stores that sell "work lights" e.g., for workmen working at night. But, the halogen torch lamps are no longer readily available in stores like Target and K-Mart like they used to be. There is probably good reason for that because the heat given off these lamps is hot enough to start a fire if they tip over and/or are close enough to combustible material. This lamp has a spherical white wire mesh guard on the top which my older halogen torch lamps did not have. Still, be careful with these hot lamps. We turn them off when we leave the room. We had four young children at home (now grown out and moved out) when we first used this type of lamp and had no safety problems. But I am aware of a relative who started a fire with one of these lamps while in college... He left the room and it was too close to a drape.

But expect some problems overtime...

Eventually, there are things that go wrong with halogen lamps. The contacts where the lamps (bulbs) are inserted can arc and pit and affect the quality of the electrical contact. When they arc, you can hear a buzzing sound. Some times this can be fixed by cleaning the contacts (e.g., with emory cloth/sandpaper.) I've also had the dimming switches fail and relaced them with simple on/off switches. As the these lamps wore out, I would save the parts that were good in order to make replacement lamps bad combing the good parts of the lamp parts (e.g., make one workable lamp out of the parts of two other ones that had issues. My point is including this information is that I expect this lamp to perform as my older lamps did. But, I've had no problems thus far.

Until there is better high-output, more energy efficient option, this Halogen Torchiere type is the only choice for me... I have not been able to find a suitable (high-light-output, low-glare)replacement option in a regular store. The trend with lighting is to offer the same light output (of normal/tyipcal lamps) with lower electrical/energy cost. I've even thought of building a light box where I could put in 5-10 regular or more energy efficent lamps. (I would put it on top of our china cabinet and bounce the light off the ceiling.)

NOTE TO DESIGNERS: There is a market for a high-light-output, low-glare, energy efficient lamp suitable for using in a living room.

Bottom line... My wife and I are VERY HAPPY that we were able to find a suitable replacement for our old halogen torch lamps...price, shipping etc. fine, no/issues Don't you just love to have an Amazon option?

These lamps are poorly manufactured. The components barely fit together, and, when finally assembled, not only was the lamp crooked, we were not able to install the provided halogen bulb. We had purchased two, but only opened one box. Both were returned to Amazon and we were promptly and fully reimbursed for our purchase.

Upon receiving this item I was in awe of it's design until my son pointed out the cracks in the globe at the lowest part. The 3 quarter size spider web looking cracks seemed to perhaps be caused by heat as though the lamp was a returned damaged product. In addition the abaca rope was coming away from the base in 3 places. I had to use super glue to fix it. I did not return because I had thrown away packing materials and just repaired it the best I could and cancelled the order for the other one on backorder. Very dissapointed that it passed inspection.

This is a pretty lamp. Even though most of them come in tattered and broken. One of mine came in and wouldnt even light up. THE HASSLE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT WORTH THE PRETTINESS OF THE LAMP!! Save your self!!! I had to deal with uneven and DARK living room for a LONG time, paid for shipping TWICE. (Almost $30 as a college student.) This company showed absolutely no remorse or care at all for my extra expenses or awful experience. The pictures do not show the cracks or the unravelled thread or possibly the entire lamp defective in the picture or description. If you buy it.. Dont get your hopes up.

I bought this light for my kids' playroom, and I receive compliments on it every time someone new comes to visit. I assigned four stars instead of five only because the final steps of the assembly--attaching all the bulbs and bulb covers--were tedious and frustrating to perform from my awkward perch atop a 10-foot stepladder. It probably took an hour or so just for that, including at least a dozen trips up and down the ladder to retrieve dropped screws. If I had it to do over gain, I would probably ignore the instructions and complete the assembly prior to mounting on the ceiling. I'm dreading the day I have to climb back up to replace a bulb. Until then, however, I love this fixture.

First & most important, the lamp flickers seconds after turning it off. I feel the need to unplug it while not in use for fear of a fire.

Second, the instruction booklet mentions a grill that fits over the bulb casing & none was included. This desk lamp is a mini version of the standing Verilux lamp I purchased thru Amazon & I love it, which is why I jumped at the chance to purchase the desktop version.

If I hadn't recycled the shipping materials already, I would return it, even though it gives off good light for desk work (although somewhat bright due to no grill).

The Natural Spectrum light is easy on the eyes. The lamp is solid state, beautiful and well worth the money. I give it four stars, only because it is a little big for my desk space, but that is my problem, not the lamp.
