This is a great lamp, and it got instant praise the moment I turned it on. I put 2 energy efficient 15 watt bulbs in it (rated the same brightness as a 60 watt conventional bulb), and it lights up the whole room. It has a floor switch that makes turning it on and off very simple. I'd like it more if it was taller, but the height is accurate from the description.

The lamp looks nice when lit in the darkness and casts a warm glow over a 3 foot radius or so. I used two GE 13 watt CFL soft white bulbs (825 lumens, 60 watt equivalent) for lighting, so more light may be possible with higher-rated bulbs. The light was similar to the color shown in the pictures, not as orange as some other buyers have experienced.

That said, this floor lamp isn't practical for lighting purposes. Even within the light radius, I would have some strain on my eyes while reading, so ceiling lights or a good torchiere are certainly necessary for room lighting. As an ornamental piece, though, it looks fairly nice.

Note on quality of build: only the vertical, twisting frame is metal. The horizontal bars running up and down the sides are cheap wood or imitation wood of some kind, and the spacing isn't entirely consistent between the bars. The bars are also glued on to the paper lining of the lamp, so they can't be adjusted.

Conclusion: as with many ornamental pieces of this type in this price range, it gets the job done, and looks better from several feet away (or across the room) than it does close up. I'm satisfied with it and will keep it, but will have to supplement it with a proper torchiere to get sufficient lighting in my living room, as it effectively casts as much light as a strong nightlight.

I like this lamp but be aware it's going to cause the output from the sides to look very orange. It seems most of the light that's supposed to illuminate the room comes from the top. That doesn't do a lot of good in my application, but in a room with a ceiling it'll help a lot. In terms of light output it's a bit weak where I'm at, but I suspect much of the light is getting soaked up by the open, dark ceiling above. The switch works well, and the cable is a reasonable length.

It is worth noting this lamp takes two light bulbs, and the lower one could be a lot easier to change if they would flip the socket upside down. Approach it from the bottom of the lamp.

The packaging prevented the light from getting damaged, but it's also some of the worst packaging I've ever encountered. It just doesn't seem like there was much of a strategy to it. It's an odd mix of styrofoam, plastic bags, and bubble wrap.

i got 2 of these lights, and they are WAY COOL. they are very lightweight and simple in design. the lining inside is a yellowish color, so when you put the bulbs in, it colors it to a beautiful warm off-white. it also casts a very interesting shadow on the wall from the diamond shaped top. VERY cool light, extremely happy i got it. totally worth the money. very unique and functional.

This lampshade is nice, just the right size not too big, and looks reasonably well made. Packaging was not quite as robust as could be however.

The light depends on the output of the bulbs feel free to mix up different outputs so long as they are less than the overall load bearing ability of the cord and fixtures etc.

Gives a nice ambient glow, just right overall very happy with it.

Would prefer if it was manufactured in the USA its not a complex item like electronics..

Best desk lamp I've ever owned that's saying a lot for an accountant who sits at her desk all day. Lamp is really bright & well-balanced. It has a 2-setting switch, which allows the user to dim the light a bit unlike the less expensive versions of this lamp. Also, although it is a bit hot due to its halogen bulb, it isn't hot enough to double as a space heater, as a few previous halogen desk lamps I've used. The only thing that makes this lamp less than perfect is that I've owned this lamp for over 2 years (consistent use of at least a few hours each day a a few more most nights) and the bulb finally died. Unfortunately, the screws that holds the glass cover over the bulb were already stripped. I'm not sure how this is possible, as I've never previously replaced the bulb. Anyhow, it'll have to go in the trash now, making it a $75 lamp, which only lasted 2 years.

I might get another one though, since I spend so much time at my desk.

I bought this lamp from IKEA a couple of years ago to use as a nightstand lamp. It only lasted about a year before the pull string broke completely off with no way to reattach it. Guess there was a reason it was only $10.

Picked up a pair of these for the bed stand table. Typical IKEA "form follows function.". This was about the least expensive lamp on Amazon, and I'm pretty happy even though they are cheap.

I expected them to be a little taller than they are. The specs are a little vague. The height is from the base to the top of the shade, as installed. I had assumed the height was 'base to bulb' so they are maybe three inches shorter than I thought. But they're fine; they serve the purpose.

With the paper shades I'd be cautious about using a high wattage incandescent bulb, but with a 15W compact fluorescent they give off plenty of light.

They tried to pass off the Ikea Magnarp Lamp as the Orgel, presumably because Ikea has discontinued the Orgel table lamp (which was the whole reason I tried to buy it off amazon in the first place...). Please update the product listing so that future customers are not disappointed like me.

Update: I returned the lamp and ordered another from a different seller. I have an Ikea Orgel Lamp, which I was trying to match with this purchase. While the new lamp looks mostly the same, my guess is that it is a knock off because everything is slightly different. The metal base and stem are a different color, the pull is different, the paper shade is softer and darker, and the sticky bottom cover isn't cut quite close enough to the size of the base. Nothing on the packaging said Ikea, except a printed amazon sticker, and the instructions did not resemble Ikea's unique style. Overall it feels cheaper than the original lamp I have. I paid $10 for the first lamp from ikea years ago, but I paid $30 for this bad copy. To be fair, if I didn't have my lamp to compare it with, I'd just think this was a cheap, cruddy lamp. But since I know, I'm very disappointed.

So it starts out curled in a box, as you might expect. But it doesn't exactly unbend very easy. You really have to put some effort into making it straight. Also I had to cut the line because it was to long for my use and the cloth over the wire can stretch one way or the other but it loosens the cloth when you do it, which makes it look a little frayed. By the 3rd light that I installed with this fixture I had all the unique qualities of it figured out. I like how they look now, but there was some good effort put into it.

I have very limited space on my desk, and wasn't happy when my lap finally stopped working (the switch broke). It had been on that desk for roughly 20 years!! I started searching for a replacement, and was shocked to see that the exact same lamp was still being made, only with a different shade design. I promptly placed an order, and when it arrived, took it out of the box and compared it to my old one. The plastic base is the same, just in black instead of white. The shade is a bit larger, but so far it isn't an issue, and the large switch is useful. One thing I did notice, though, is that you have to use a lower wattage bulb.

If you need a simple lamp with built-in storage, and are not looking for anything fancy, this should work fine. I wrote the date on the bottom to see if this one lasts as long as the original did!

I have owned my lamp for about 2 years now. I mainly use it to make jewelry. The lighting is very different than what you would get from a standard lamp. I love the way that I am able to see colors better. I am always surprised to see how something does or doesn't match after I see it in the true lighting. The neck of the lamp gives great flexibility and range of movement. The angles and the magnifying glass really help to see the fine details. My only complaint is that the light isn't quite bright enough for me. I would have preferred the higher wattage, but this one is acceptable. My only other wish is for some sort of cover for the magnefying glass. It can get dirty or scratched easily. I keep telling myself that I am going to sew one for it one day.

I came across Ott products a few years ago and was attracted by the claim by Ott that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night. One of the floor lamps that I own is identical to this model except for color, and it does not include the magnifying glass arm.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

This is great for identification of colors when working with beads, thread, etc. This is also a great reading lamp, the light is asssss good as sunlight. The magnification is helpful when reading small printed instructions and for close-up sewing. This is a floor lamp and there is no worry about having a table nearby for it to set on or be attached to. I think this is a fantastic, useful item for crafts and reading.

I ordered this light because I do a lot of counted cross stitch. I loved the light above and the adjustable magnifying glass and the way that you can bend the light to where you want it. The price was also good. It was fabulous for the first two weeks and then the light didn't shine as bright as when I first received it. I called the Ott-Lite company and she said to get a hold of Amazon and they should send you a new bulb and if that doesn't work, then they should replace the whole light. I called Amazon and told the lady what the Ott-Lite company said and whoever the lady was didn't quite get what I was saying. She told me that the were out of the bulb and light and if I would like to return the light. I said yes and she emailed me a RA for UPS to return the light. In the meantime, I called Ott-Lite and told them what Amazon said & did. The lady at Ott-Lite is working on sending me a new bulb. If that doesn't work I will be sending the whole light back. So far very disappointed with Amazon. Like to speak to someone that can understand what you are saying.

First & most important, the lamp flickers seconds after turning it off. I feel the need to unplug it while not in use for fear of a fire.

Second, the instruction booklet mentions a grill that fits over the bulb casing & none was included. This desk lamp is a mini version of the standing Verilux lamp I purchased thru Amazon & I love it, which is why I jumped at the chance to purchase the desktop version.

If I hadn't recycled the shipping materials already, I would return it, even though it gives off good light for desk work (although somewhat bright due to no grill).

The Natural Spectrum light is easy on the eyes. The lamp is solid state, beautiful and well worth the money. I give it four stars, only because it is a little big for my desk space, but that is my problem, not the lamp.

I just received the Sambuca Floor Standing Fan yesterday. It is tall and beautiful and I am very pleased with the fan itself. However, it is made in China (not criticizing that part, particularly) and the packaging is a mess. Tiny styrofoam balls are compressed into blocks surrounding the 3 main parts of the fan, held together with long, long strips of tape. The styrofoam flies everywhere and sticks to everything when you unpack it and you can't unpack it without snapping the blocks of styrofoam. Many of the blocks were broken so loose balls of styrofoam flew everywhere when the box was opened. There is no way to unpack this thing neatly, unless you do it outdoors, which I recommend.

You also need to be aware that the instruction booklet is useless scrap paper. It is printed in several languages, but the page numbers in mine are numbered thusly: 1, 4, 5, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 10, 11, 14, 15. Most of those pages are not in English. Be prepared to figure out the assembly on your own. It took some fiddling and maneuvering, but it did come together with no tools needed. It sends out a powerful blast of air, even on the lowest setting.

Good looking, fancy and unique and is as heavy as it looks. Most fans start at the high speed button once it is turned on. This fan conveniently starts with the low speed, which is mostly the speed that's needed. It is a welcome and very decorative addition to our dining room. Two thumbs up on this one.
