Prime Cuts: Pickup Truck, What a Beautiful Concept, Get Away with You

Yellowbird has soared to potent heights with his debut CD. Not only did his single "Pickup Truck" crest at the pinnacle of the Canadian country chart, Yellowbird was recently honored with five nominations at 2007's CCMA Awards. Spotting a Kenny Chesney look-a-like on the CD cover, "Life is Calling My Name" could easily be a not so distant cousin of Chesney's albums. Like Chesney, Yellowbird is purveyor of modern country conjuring up rockish country tunes with a few compelling ballads thrown in to balance things out. However, one of the reasons why Yellowbird is such a radio magnet is that he has a very engaging vocal personality: with shades of the blue-eyed soul of Keith Urban and the driving enthusiasm of Rodney Atiken. Further, Yellowbird has a way of captivating us to every phrase he sings. Contributive to the CD's success is also that each of the songs has minted melody and irresistible hook; many of which come from the galore of Nashville's scribal elite including Cadillac Sky's Bryan Simpson, Musik Mafia's Rodney Clawson, Jeremy Stover, Bryon Hill amongst many others.

Romantic aficionados are sure to be swept away by "Get Away with You." With its portrait-painting lyrics and Yellowbird's restraint but heartfelt vocals, "Get Away with You" is an elegantly crafted ballad. Here Yellowbird sings about a romantic getaway with his paramour in a snow-covered cabin with Yellowbird himself doing everything including the cooking. This Hobboma native sure knows how to get on the amicable side of his female fans. On the other hand, "Pickup Truck," Yellowbird's number 1 single, is a bouncy irresistible rouser with a wry Brad-Paisley-humor telling the story a dud constantly rejected by the ladies for his abysmal pickup lines. Some delightful banjo licks greet the nostalgic thumper "I Hear the Music," which is supposed to be Yellowbird's follow-up single.

With the avalanche of songs from female artists bickering about the type of men they want, "What a Beautiful Concept" is a slightly tongue-in-cheek male counterpart of Yellowbird dreaming of the perfect girl who does not mind his snoring, loves his pickup truck, and one who loves him for who he is. While the opener "They're All About You," despite its heartbreaking message, finds Yellowbird in a mean streak of countrified mood complete with some greasy slides of steel guitars and enough percussive kick to make this the next great country line dance. Letting loose for some Caribbean breeze is the ballad-like "A Summer Day," a picturesque Chesney-like samba-tingled sort in tribute of the sunny side of the seasons.

If there are any quibbles with this otherwise excellent debut, there is a loud is better attitude adopted by producer Bart McKay. The album hardly slows down for some more reflective ballads, save for "Get Away with You." Even on the supposedly relaxing "A Summer Day," the backing electric guitars are too indulgent. Nevertheless, "Life is Calling Your Name" is an enjoyable effort--one that has a bountiful spread of romance, humor, heartbreak and inspirational odes. Can't wait to see Yellowbird soar to even greater heights in the near future to come.

Stressed out from a busy week? Need to unwind or just visit with friends? Grab this CD and set the mood. Soulful deep Country songs. I fell in love with this CD from the first time I streamed it on Shane's website.

They're all about you is the perfect song for a romantic evening just watch out that Shane's smooth voice does not distract your lady from the matters on hand.

Pick-up truck is a great light hearted song.

You do not have to think much with this CD. It is easy listening at it's best that will calm you down.

Wow, what can I say. This guy can sing. His first single, "Beautiful Concept" was good, but the new one is even better "They're all about you". This is what country is all about. Not all poppy, but some good new country with just enough twang. "Pickup Truck" is hilarious and the title track is really catchy and inspiring. There are some great slow songs too that you will love. This is one CD I am spinning alot and can't decide which is my favorite cut. I would highly recommend it, even if you think you don't like country, I think you would be pleasantly surprised. Too bad you can't hear the tracks here, but think you can listen to some on his website.

I saw the cat fan first in a specialty catalog. I dont usually buy stuff like this but thought at most it would be a cute accent piece and love cats so decided to get it. Unfortuantely the catalog was out of the "cat" fans so unbelievably found it on Amazon. When I ordered this cat fan I thought at most it would be a cute converstaion piece on an end table in my living room and serve as a fan (secondary) if at all. I was not expecting this to be a nice fan or even a "nice" piece. I mostly purchased because I saw it as unique and looked like it would blend well with my decor without looking cheap. I was pleasantly surprised to find a quite quaility fan and very nice piece. It is heavy (which I say that to give you an idea of quality) and very nice detail ( the feet are adoreable little cat paws) and it has a 2 speed switch and very nice air flow. I read some where that someone felt the air quality was sub par but not the cat one I got. It has a great air flow and I only have it on the lower speed. I also want to mention this is a generious size. I pictured small but this is huge! It is almost too big for an end table and would look good on the floor (I personally have it on a table by my bed for now to add more air flow when I sleep) . It is absolutely adoreable, nice quality and a great purchase.

I sent this to my Mom makes an awesome gift. Not cheaply made and good craftmanship, so dont worry you are sending them something that will embarrass you. I have sent catalog items before and were embarrassed when I actually saw them visiting a friend to how cheap they ended up looking like. This is not cheap its a very nice product.

The Phillips LED light bulb is amazing. The light it gives out is almost white. No flickering on any kind. Approx power usage on the box says 3 hours a day for a full year will be less than $1. I would pick up a 10 pieces if it were more affordable, A price drop to $10 would be nice.

After spending some time looking at the new LED bulbs, I bought one of these (the last one in stock) to replace a 40 W bulb in the bedside table lamp in our bedroom. The light is quite warm, with similar yellowish cast of the incandescent bulb. The bulb is heavy with a solid build. The light projected from the new bulb has an even pattern, similar to the standard bulb. This is a nice feature as many of the other new LED bulbs have a much narrower dispersion pattern. In my view, a wide dispersion is much better for the typical table lamp.

Altogether, it's a one for one replacement for the standard bulb, albeit at a much higher price. On the other hand, it will pay for itself in 6 months as it burns about 20% of the electric power of the bulb it is replacing. The bedside lights are on a lot more or less all day so we don't come home to a dark home. The estimated power used is about $0.96 per year versus over $80 for the standard bulb. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I typically do not write reviews but this recent purchase has me doing so. With that said, the House of Troy has done a great job in producing this hand crafted light. All components are well crafted and solidly built. The switch located on the base of the lamp is very nice compared to those with the wheel switch several feet down the electrical cord. I came across Ott products (including this particular floor lamp) a few years ago and was attracted by the claim that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

I love Arterior lamps and this is the only one I own. I could tell from the photos that it was high quality and I was right. The photo makes the base look somewhat blue but it truly is gray and not at all transparent. It's more like a slate gray frosted glass. The lamp shade is a soft gray. It cast an even, soothing light. I bought 3 lamps (a pendant and 2 table lamps) for our newly remodeled living room. They look great and match very nicely with the rest of our contemporary furniture. This is not your traditional lamp, it's really a piece of art. I love the fact it's hand made and painted by an artist. I have two rowan chase cypress pendants in my house and I am very happy with them. I was a little bit hesitant at first because of the strong colors but they actually create a very nice contrast with the rest of the room. My interior is light and the pendants are bringing some bright colors. I installed them lined up above my dining table which creates a nice effect.

Although the price tag is not cheap, you can tell they are quality made and the shade really feels like a painting (I guess it is the same material). The frame is metal and strong and the power cord comes with an installed plug at the end. (which I did not need as I simply mounted them with the canopy where my previous hanging lamp was).

In short, very satisfied with how this lamp played out.

The model that I received is not exactly as shown in the picture. The picture shows a telescoping rod coming down from the ceiling that can set at practically any height. The one I received has several different extensions to choose between, so you are limited to adding 8" or 12" (or both) to the length at which the fixture hangs down from the ceiling. It's not bad, but it's not as shown and I would rather have the telescoping option.

We just bought our first house and were looking to replace all the 80s era lighting fixtures to modernize the place. This island light was a perfect fit for our dining room. Provides great lighting and atmosphere.

We also purchased a Philips 37481/30/48 for the kitchen which also looks awesome. It would've been nice if this light had come with a similar frosted glass piece to cover the bottom but that is a minor complaint.
