The lamp is really small and looks pretty fragile. It came shipped from Hong Kong in nothing but bubble wrap and lots of tape. There was no box. It does work however. Before you spread the wires(branches), it looks like a plastic bse with wires sticking out of it.

However, the screw on top to hold the shade in place is stripped and would not screw on. My husband plans on fixing it himself that way I do not have to incurrr the cost and trouble of sending it back just because of the screw.

I used to have the red version of this lamp on my desk at work. I won't get into the details of how I managed to get a $500 desk lamp at my low-wage job, but let's just say that there was a short period of time when pretentiousness ruled the day. Now, about the lamp...it works well, it's really unique in that it has settings for different tones of light, and, let's face it, the lamp just looks cool. That said, one of the lamps we ordered didn't work and had to be returned, and the lamp that replaced it didn't work and also had to be returned. Third time was the charm, and finally we had a lamp that was functional. Then, ironically, it sat on my desk for over a year, and I think I turned it on three times. I might as well have kept the broken one, for all the good it did me. It just didn't provide enough light to be useful even at the highest settings. Still, if you're looking for a showstopper in your office, this is it, hands down. I wish I had money to blow so I could buy a new one for my current home office, even though I never used the thing. Really, it's that unique and gorgeous. It's just so unnecessary...

I was looking for lamp shades that allowed some light to come through and these shades meet that requirement. This was a replacement shade that was shipped from another vendor in a flimsy box. I expected a higher quality product for $60. This fan seems chintzy compared to the Hunter 12" fan I got at Target for $15 cheaper. The medallion in the center with the Minka-Air logo is just an aluminum plate, whereas the Hunter fan has an embossed steel logo. The retaining ring that holds the front and back guards together is plastic and there are absolutely no directions in the box about putting the thing together. I had to guess. The retaining ring is not easy to put on. You almost need three hands.

The Hunter fan has a metal retaining ring, and the fan comes completely assembled.

The Minka-Aire fan works well, and is relatively quiet, but the blades hit somewhere when you change the speed. That's annoying.

I wouldn't recommend this fan. Go to Target and get a Hunter fan, or pay $30 more and order it at Amazon.

We have seven Minka Acero ceiling fans in my office and in our new home. We got five for our home, because the two in the office have been amazingly quiet, year after year. We just got the retro table fan, which is also silent, even at high speed.

There was a little too much assembly required with the table fan, but it was straightforward, and took no more than five minutes, using a cordless drill as a screwdriver.

I've had this fan for almost a year. The finish is a beautiful brushed nickel and looks every bit as good today as it did on day one. The fan moves a lot of air through a 13x13 room. Only complaint is that the plastic blades seem to be a lot noisier than more expensive desk fans I own.

I purchased the Minka Aire F300-BN 10" 4-Blade Turbofan a few months ago. It required partial assembly, which was ok. However, after several hours of use, the main shaft would "un-thread" and the upper fan will wobble and quit working. I dis-assembled it and rebuilt the main shaft -TWICE (about every 30-40 days since it arrived). The fan looks cool with it's retro design, but unusable unless you plan on rebuilding it every month.

Bad purchase.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In the area that counts the most for a light, the light appearance of the Normande Lighting GP3-718-BK is bright and very white. When compared to other lights in the average home (like mine), this light lacks the warmth of traditional incandescent light bulbs or even more recent CFLs, and appears to be bluish-white. It's different enough that it looks odd when turned on in the room where there are other lights turned on.

Otherwise, the lamp doesn't weigh much and has lots of plastic covering most touch points. The construction/appearance (minus the light color) looks good until you touch it or handle it... then it feels cheap.

My son liked it though and uses it in his room for task lighting, mismatched light colors and all.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In a nutshell, the lamp will function fine as a lamp. Just remember that since this takes a fluorescent bulb, the light you will get from it is an unnatural and bright white (don't expect any warm yellows here). This would be great for an undergrad student, but if you are looking to decorate your space with retro looking goods, I would probably look elsewhere.

So, I'll start with the good. Again, this functions fine as far as lamps go. The lamp *feels* substantial weight wise and the snaking neck feels built to last.

On to the constructive criticism. While this may look retro from a distance, up close, it's not as cool. The silver rim on the bottom of the lamp apparatus (where the light is) is actually partially translucent; when I turn the lamp on I can actually see through part of the silver strip (I can also see through the silver on the top of the lamp). The whole structure, excepting the snaking neck and the switch, is plastic. More so, the plastic pieces don't fit well together. There are places where the plastic is uneven on the one side, and where its mate on the other side is smooth as a baby's bottom. All the plastic smudges pretty easily, but the smudges are similarly easy tow wipe off with a dry rag. The only other "complaint" has to do with the way the light flickers when it turns on, but this is not so much the fault of the lamp as much as it is a reality with fluorescent lights. I only mention it so that those of you who may not be familiar with such lights are made aware when viewing this product.

Altogether, I think it's a good deal for a college student needing a desk lamp. However, this is not necessarily the find of the century for a lighting connoisseur.

**EDIT / ADDENDUM**

I am compelled to add this bit and to remove two stars. I am, at this point, unsure of the safety of the lamp. When I turn it on now, the base makes a clicking noise in tandem with the flickering of the bulb itself. This *sounds* hazardous (as if it could be a short). As I've only used the lamp for two days, it would seem that this is something that could have been caught with a little time and Q.C....

This desk lamp is light weight, stylish, easy to manipulate to get the best lighting angle, provides plenty of bright light and saves on electricity. The desk lamps I have owned in the past have been bigger, heavier, and had very limited range of motion. This desk lamp lacks those undesirable features and it also doesn't heat up the vicity like my old lamps did which makes it safe to have and use near small children. I also expect the LED bulb to last me for quite a while which means I can use it without having to worry about the bulb burning out and having to go out to get a replacement. All in all I'm very happy with this lamp and think it is a great value.

Received my light with 48 hours of ordering, well packed and intact. The color of the LED is complimenting to the window I have in the room, and is not harsh to my eyes. The head of the lamp stays in the position you want, and does not droop down like others I have tried (and returned). The base is sturdy, and the on/off switch is easily accessible.

I strongly recommend getting this fixture. You will not be sorry.
