I purchased two of these lamps. I wanted lamps that had a 3-way switch that took 150 watt bulbs. My living room is dark and I wanted something that would be really bright. These are very nice lamps and that shades are a nice shape. The only problem was one of the shades was not packed very well and it arrived crushed in several places. My husband tried to fix it and did, except when the lamp is turned on you can see where it was creased. The second lamp was packed really well and the shade arrived in perfect shape. Overall I'm pleased with this purchase.

I hung these from the trees for some soft lighting. The only negative is that the batteries ran down after about 4 hours of use and our party went on for many more hours. Overall a good paper light but it is small.

Easily assembled. (hardest part was getting them out of the shipping box). Simple, yet elegant. A bit small for a living room with overstuffed furniture but goes nicely in study or bedroom. Love the lampshade!

A basic, utilitarian lamp that doesn't add or detract from a basic room. Getting the darned thing unpacked can drive you crazy and I found it impossible to get all the Styrofoam off the cord. Still, for the price, not bad.

Philips 43-Watt A19 EcoVantage Light Bulb, Natural Light

What most people want in a light bulb is as follows:

-Soft White (which appears somewhere between cream and yellow, like candle light)

-Long Life (subject to opinion and how the bulb is used.. usually over 1000 hours, hopefully over 2000)

-Bright

I had somewhat different requirements

-A more blanced color spectrum which is bluer than "Soft White"

-Over 1000 hours of estimated life

-Between 550 and 700 lumens

-Energy Savings

-Mercury Free

This met my needs almost perfectly.

Pros for this bulb were:

-No chance for a mercury spill in my own, UNLIKE Compact Fluorescent at the time of this review

-1250 hours of life means I won't be changing these every month, but will need a spare on hand for changes once in a while. This is on par with most incandescent bulbs.

-a more balanced bluer light than the yellow of "Soft White" or the red tint of GE Reveal daylight bulbs. GE has tried to create daylight bulbs and in my opinion they fail by using a purplish tint which succeeds in making things look more "daylight" but fails in adding a red/magenta hue. If you compare any Philips Daylight type bulbs with the blue tint to the GE Reveal bulbs with their purple/magenta/violet type of tint, you'll see the difference. On the other hand, if you are only after color of light, Sylvania has MUCH cheaper much more readily available bulbs called "Sylvania Daylight" available in local supermarkets, but none with energy savings.

-Cheaper to run per lumen of light than typical spectrum adjustment coated light bulbs. Bulbs that claim to produce whiter/daylight colored light are usually tinted with a transparent baby blue or light violet paint, to filter the yellows of a standard A19 "Soft White" bulb. The light being filtered to tint the bulb becomes heat, which makes the bulb less efficient at producing like, hotter, and therefore dimmer. For those of us who have some reason to want whiter light but do not want the mercury issues of current CFL bulbs, this added heat became a necessary problem. There is an alternative to CFL which is around halfway between the energy use per lumen of standard incandescent and CFL bulbs, which is the halogen enclosed tungsten incandescent bulb. I'm not going to explain why that is the case in this review, but check it out on wikipedia under Halogen Light Bulb or something similar. Anyway, the Philips term "EcoVantage" emplies ecologically sound, and claims to throw off a similar number of lumens as a comparable 60 watt bulb. Watts mean nothing as far as brightness is concerned, so I did a comparison, and these bulbs are appreciably brighter than other non-halogen "daylight" tinted bulbs. Note how I'm not comparing them to bulbs without a color tinting, because the tint implies inherent inefficiency to an extent. Another thing worth noting is that Philips never claims that these are halogen based bulbs, but it's fairly easy to see by looking at the casing around the filament, inside the bulb. I can't claim to know what gas is in that casing, but I think it's a safe bet that since they make energy efficient halogen bulbs, and "daylight bulbs" that their "energy efficient daylight" type of bulb would just be combining of the previous two. This is the only Halogen and "Daylight" tinted bulb I have found on the market, anywhere. That's why I bought it with all other pros and cons aside.

-Mercury Free; this is extremely important to me. If you look into the reasoning behind why the EPA is allowing the sale of Compact Fluorescent light bulbs, their explanation is that a single broken CFL can be cleaned up properly at home, adding less estimated mercury than should raise the risk of mercury health risks significantly enough to warrant public protection from the product in question. Now ... imagine dropping a box of a few CFLs off a shelf, or perhaps your kid breaks one to see what will happen, when he's at that curious stage, and the spill isn't cleaned up as per EPA recommendations, because he's a kid and doesn't want to get caught, so he does his best to pick up the broken glass, and the mercury remains. How about if the kid broke the box, dumped the broken contents out while trying to pick the box up, and did a poor cleanup of an entire box. Maybe that causes no harm, but I'm happier knowing such a senarion could not have been caused by kid number one, later to effect kid number 2 who the wife is pregnant with. And I can still be about 50% as green as the CFL would make me by using Halogen.

Cons for this bulb were:

-Gets hotter than a standard A19 bulb of any type (unless you could when several of our CFLs began arching over the course of their short lives, and smoldered in the socket, filling out house with the wondrous smell of molten flame retardant plastic. All "daylight" tinted incandescent bulbs are hotter and so I recommend screwing them into porcelain socks if available (half my sockets just happen to be the white porcelain kind) and if they have to be in plastic encased sockets, don't use them in an enclosed recessed fashion. Or just switch to the nice cool CFL or LED technologies, if you don't mind Mercury or the price and availability of LED.

-Is dimmer than "Soft White" incandescent halogen bulbs, due to having a light filter coating. This is not a problem for people used to non-halogen bulbs because the halogen adds brightness, offsetting the dimming effect of the filter coating.

-HORRIBLE quality control. I bought four of these bulbs and two of those four were defective. I don't mean the filament of half were broken from shipping. The filament happened to look intact, but the bulbs failed to light for some other reason, and almost got stuck in the socket. Some of the working ones almost got stuck, while some of them went in smooth and easy. I bought four others that were of a higher wattage, and all worked, but had their own manufacturing defects. If you consider all eight Philips EcoVantage Daylight bulbs I bought, about two of them had less blue spectrum filter coating (I could see the difference with my eyes with them unlit) around three of them were harder to get in and out of sockets because of what I think was too much solder stuck to the side of the male socket on the bulb, and two of them failed to light completely and showed signs of some scorching on the area that had solder abnormalities on the hard to install bulbs. What this says to me is that these bulbs are manufactured to a two sigma standard as far as quality control is concerned. That means every three bulbs, one will fail to work. If you want to look at quality control problems that don't result in failure, it's more like a 1 sigma manufacturing process. Amazon will accept defective bulbs mailed back to them, but I'm still trying to mail mine back, so I guess I'll cross my fingers.

Summary: This is the only Halogen Incandescent Daylight tinted light bulb I could find, and it worked really well, except for the 33% defective thing (or 50% defective if you only cound the 43W ones. Amazon offset the cost of the defects by allowed return of defective merchandise, but that doesn't pay for the customers wasted time. Still, I believe these bulbs are worth the wasted time to mail a few defective ones back. They don't seem to get all that much hotter to me, and that heat is beneficial in the winter, so I will switch out to Soft White in the summer. They help a lot with the dismalness of a cold northern winter, they are amazing to read under, and are very bright compared to other "daylight" tinted incandescent bulbs. I have never run into a whiter incandescent other than Philips non-halogen "Daylight" bulbs. It's just a shame these aren't available in the local stores or through another vendor so the price might come down a little. The current price per bulb three to six times the price of supermarket sold incandescent soft white by Sylvania, and double the price of incandescent Sylvania Daylight bulbs.

Since I'm so happy with the 66% of my order that worked, I'm giving it four stars.

These bulbs work great. They're just as bright as regular 60W bulbs but use 17 watts less per bulb that savings adds up when using multiple bulbs at once. The light quality is very nice too. It says on the package that they're suitable for use in open fixtures. I'm not sure if they can be used in totally enclosed fixtures it should specify that. Otherwise they're good quality bulbs that save energy, last longer, and are affordable.

I've bought it too times. For both times, one of the bulb was already not working on delivery. I would say the product quality control is poor, not all the bulbs are working off the line.

The working bulb from last time only lasted for 4 months and died.

The color is warm yellow, which is pleasant. Perfect for a table lamp.

Although I like the bulb color, I wouldn't suggest purchasing this bulb based on my experience.

Thanks!

Honest reviews on Philips 43-Watt A19 EcoVantage Light Bulb, Natural Light

I needed a dimmable full-spectrum bulb, one with better energy efficiency than a normal incandescent. Sadly, after only three months, three of the four I bought have burned out. Ironically, the only one I regularly dim is the last one working. I have generally had good luck with Philips products, so this may just be a bad batch, but I'll save my pennies for their LED bulbs from now on.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Philips 43-Watt A19 EcoVantage Light Bulb, Natural Light

I purchased two twin packs of 100 watt bulbs, one Natural one Soft White. Not a single bulb worked.

Thinking it had to be something in the light I tried them in multiple fixtures. In every case a standard incandescent would operate perfectly while the EcoVantage would not.

Finally after I fiddled around for a while I got one of the bulbs to operate if I screwed it in just a bit, but no more. I suspected a cold soldier joint and that the bulb was working only when the blob of soldier was lined up with the copper tab in the socket but a VOM meter indicated the connection between the base and soldier looked good.

Then I bent the tabs in the socket out a bit figuring maybe the bulb was undersized. Didn't fix it.

I'm pretty sure the problem is a bad connection somewhere, probably in the base, but I can't be sure. But 4 dead out of 4 from two different batches makes me suspect a design problem rather than manufacturing problem.

Regardless of the cause its clear they aren't checking the bulbs or they aren't doing it properly. Whatever it is this is multibillion dollar company and they should know better.

These replacement bulbs work, thats all I really ask for. Remember like all Halogen bulbs if you touch them with your bare hands they will burn out fast, so use a paper towel or wear clean gloves when you install them. Nine months later the first bulb burned out, less than stellar performance but since they were so cheap and within two feet of the lamp it took all of two minutes to change it. It is still a good deal but keep the extra bulbs handy you may need them.

I ordered a 6-pack of these bulbs from this seller. The package they came in is labeled 'Trisonic' and the bulbs look fine, and the rating for my IKEA desk lamp is corect. But they burn out faster than any other bulbs I've ever used! I've been lucky to get a couple of weeks usage out of each bulb. Two burned out within less than a week.

With daily use in kitchen under-cabinet lighting, these bulbs lasted only a few weeks. The original bulbs lasted 6-8 months.

Honest reviews on Anyray A1739Y (6)-PACK of Halogen Light Bulbs 20W JC Type 12V G4

Caution Double Check Size and add THIS to the product description:

Advertised:

"6PACK of Halogen Light Bulbs, JC Type G4 Base (2-Pin), Low Voltage, 12 Volts, 20 Watt"

Actual Package:

6PACK of Halogen Light Bulbs, JC J Type G4 Base (2-Pin), Low Voltage, 12 Volts, 20 Watt

These would NOT fit my Lamp. The pins are THINNER and space too narrow (3/16 vs 1/4 inch) between them.

My lamp Requires:

One each of Halogen Light Bulbs, JC Type T G4 Base (2-Pin), Low Voltage, 12 Volts, 20 Watt

Just sayin, if you arent sure, dont just assume (Like I did).

I'd feel guilty about returning it though.

It was only $5 (...and I made this one work by using a pin from the old bulb as a shim)

Shipping was SUPER FAST and well packed by Unique Exceptional and I would do business with again....

I am just disappointed by the negligent, missing letter "J" in the description, it represents a HUGE difference in size of product.

Don't go by the ratings I gave this. For some reason Amazon thinks this is a toy and its not. It's not really a reading lamp either. The one thing I couldn't find any info on before I bought it was what wattage did it take. It's recommended not to use anything higher than 60 watts. Now that I've finished telling you what it isn't, I'll tell you what it is.

It's a great collectible and decorative piece. Lots of people don't link the lampshade, but I do even if Matt Smith is not a favorite of mine. It complements the TARDIS base and adds to the overall WOW look of it. Before I knew that wattage limitation I was going to order another one and put both in my living room. After I received this one I decided to use it as a light in the kitchen for when there isn't a lot going on and saving on energy.

I still might buy another one because this is just an awesome piece. Well worth the $50.

So, if you like Dr Who and collect Dr Who collectibles, add this to your collection. If you want to start collecting Dr Who, this would be a nice starter piece.

I would recommend this and I do recommend it to all Whovians out there....wherever and WHENever you are.

I just went back and gave everything 5 stars even if it isn't a toy.

Honest reviews on Doctor Who Tardis Table Lamp

I think the lamp shade is a bit cheesy for an adult, but you can replace it if it really bothers you. Overall, I love it; it looks fantastic and should last a long time. If you add batteries, it even makes the TARDIS noise when you open the door... if you leave the brakes on. ;) "It's a brilliant noise. I love that noise!"

The lamp and the price were really good but the best part was the little handwritten note from the lamp shop owner about my purchase. Who does that anymore? I will be buying more from her for sure. In fact, I think I will go shopping now!

This lamp looks exactly like the picture. Although the silver is shiny, it's also a little distressed (which I like). I don't think that comes across in the picture. Also, the shade might be a hair too large for the base. I'm going to try a smaller one.

Best Deals for Small Silver Teapot Accent Table Lamp

This lamp is so unique and is great as a nightlight, as it only takes a 25 watt bulb. It is diminutive in size, but I love the look in my kitchen. Unfortunately, my first lamp arrived and did not work. I emailed the seller directly, and she could not have been nicer. No questions asked, I was sent a replacement immediately. I heard from the seller multiple times with updates on shipping and numerous apologies. This was customer service like no other! Do NOT hesitate to buy from LampStore. What a wonderful company!

Honest reviews on Small Silver Teapot Accent Table Lamp

I love the shape and size, but the teapot is made out of a chalky-like material that is painted silver, I was very surprised at that. The shade seems to be a tad big, but overall it does the job in the kitchen. a bit overpriced I think.

Cheap Kovacs GK P8027 Art Deco / Retro Island / Billiard Fixture, Brushed

Kovacs GK P8027 Art Deco / Retro Island / Billiard Fixture, Brushed Nickel
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
We purchased this lighting fixture for use over the kitchen island. The fixture has a nice stainless steel "industrial" look that works well with our SS appliances. It looks nice. That is the good part.

The bad part:

(1) It took us about 4 hours to assemble and hang this fixture. The cost of our labor exceeded the price of the fixture.

(2) The one page `instruction manual' is a terse hybrid of Chinese/English; e.g., "Avoid Child Swing!" presumably means "do not allow children to swing from chandelier". (The fixture is manufactured in China, presumably the instruction page was written there as well.) The diagrams are very low-resolution. For example, you will need to infer that the little black square is a set-screw. Even though we are handy (e.g., we wired our own home including the service panel) assembling this light was a frustrating exercise.

(3) The back panel (upper-most part of this fixture) that attaches to the ceiling electrical box would be greatly improved if it were more rigid. We added a stiffening bar rather than opt to use two sheetrock anchors a good decision when we were later forced to rotate box about 5 degrees to compensate for a misalignment of parts (see section 7 below).

(4) The instructions direct you to "loosen" a screw when they really mean "remove" screw. Elsewhere they say to back-out a hex screw, and show such in diagram, but fail to mention (or show) that there are two screws that need to be removed.

(5) Getting the wires cut to the correct length so that the light-bar AND counter-weight are both parallel to counter was an iterative process.

(6) This fixture uses six bi-pin "G4" xenon bulbs. Bi-pin bulb sockets are notoriously unreliable. Sure enough, one socket forms intermittent contact with bulb's pins and bulb occasionally fails to light. The 20-watt bulbs get very hot.

(7) Despite using a laser level to `perfectly' align the ceiling-mounted base to be parallel to the island counter, the light was visibly misaligned. This due to an odd design that has the two supporting wires (that are also electrical conductors) attached to opposite rails in an asymmetric fashion. While this makes electrical sense, it could have been done differently, eliminating the misalignment of the rails relative to the base.

After all this work, we just pray that the fixture holds up.

I saw this for over $1,000 in some stores and have also seen it featured in the dining rooms of 2 homes on "million dollar real estate". It's simply elegantly simple. No one seems to be able to figure how it powers through the thin wires without them being "live" wires but it does...perhaps the middle bar does something; I am no electrician but men are always the ones to remark on that.

It lights up the dining table down the middle rather than one mere spot. It is simple to change bulbs and you merely move the middle bar in the middle to raise or lower it so it's far easier to hang and get in the "exact right place" than any other chandelier I've had.

I'm including a photo of my kitchen table so you can see what it looks like above a table. (go to the product listing and look under the product photo for the reviewer photos. Please note that unfortunately I didn't have it turned on during this photo but I wasn't taking a photo of the chandelier at that time--just some photos before a party. But you get the size and look from this photo anyway. You can see how it looks lit from the product listing--glows like upside down suspended candles.) Obviously I have a very modern home and this just fits perfectly with it...I love it. This actually installed easily without an electrician for me but I wouldn't recommend that to everyone...

Before I bought this product, I read the reviews of how buyers use it in their children's bedrooms at night to keep the mosquitoes out. Now that I have used it for almost a year, it troubled me to think of the things that could go wrong if it was used in a child's room I want to address this because I think it will expose the flaws in the design.

Many reviews have complained that it doesn't work, but they don't tell you why.

First off, the horizontal slider you see on the front panel is the on/off switch. The on / off switch controls the mosquito enticing light, the fan, and most importantly, the door that opens / closes the trap. Remember, the concept is that as the mosquito or bugs are flying towards the light, their open wingspan get sucked in by the vacuum created inside the chamber by a reverse (and fairly loud) fan. That chamber can be removed to release the bugs (humane, but there's no reason to be humane to bloodsucking mosquitoes whose contribution to the ecosystem have yet to be discovered and proven).

Here is the problem: the moment power is accidentally shut off (i.e. blackout, brown out, or if unit is hooked to an outlet controlled by a wall switch, which is then accidentally turned off) ALL THE TRAPPED BUGS WILL COME SWARMING OUT OF THE TRAP. Although I am not yet a parent, I would hate to think little sleeping children will get attacked by a bunch of mosquitoes while they are sleeping in an enclosed room.

It does work though...IF you are in an environment FILLED with mosquitoes and bugs. I have trapped almost a hundred different bugs in my backyard over a few hours (I would hate to imagine my power going out at that point!). But when there is a solitary mosquito hovering about, I have also had the thing going for 10 hours in a 10x10 ft enclosed foot room without catching that darn thing. Why? Because the enticing light that draws them in is reflected in your bedroom walls, so the bug get confused as to the source they should fly towards.

Also, depending on the intelligence of the bug, you may witness an escape that will put Alcatraz's Frank Morris to shame. Since the design works on an open wingspan, stinkbugs around me quickly learned to minimized and draw in their wings tightly against their bodies, lower their legs and slowly crawl out the well walls and into the hollow machine and out from underneath. Just seeing them in action made me shudder and run off screaming to my husband!

I bought this last year. I use it indoors to catch mosquitos that have gotten in the house. Over the last two years, it has caught about 3 mosquitos. This year, it hasn't caught anything. The fan is not strong enough to really suck mosquitos in and keep them in the trap when the flap is fully open. I would not recommend this product.

Best Deals for Stinger Indoor Insect Trap

Unfortunately, this product did not alleviate our mosquito problem. We have had it turned on for days and have only caught one mosquito. Many more are flying around mocking us with glee. Also, the problem with this machine is that it is very loud and exceptionally bright. You can't have it in your room at night because it's like having a huge fluorescent light on. Bummer.

Honest reviews on Stinger Indoor Insect Trap

I have now purchased three of these units. I have purchased repacement lightbulbs, thinking that was the problem at first. These units work fine for the first two or three months...or if you are lucky, maybe 6 to 8 months. Then the lightbulb goes out. The fan works, but the lightbulb fails. I purchased new lightbulbs. (Not an easy to replace bulb, either, and pricey I might add!) But that's not it. Open the unit up, and there is way more complexity than should be required to fix a lightbulb! The failure is apparently in a circuit board (a circuit board? in a mosquito trap that is basically a lightbulb and a fan?!!!) that is integral to the unit. This is planned obsolesence at its finest. Don't aggravate yourself. Let this one go without purchasing it. You will regret it.

I've purchased this item from J&R a week ago. I've tested this item away from the window, near the windows, on the table, on the floor and so forth. All the tests were conducted in the dark at night. Every single mosquito or a fly didn't even think of coming near this unit. They all flew by and none got inside. The fan is LOUD! Forget about having this unit in baby's room since it's loud and the light is bright.

This unit is worthless since in 7 days it hasn't cought a thing. Very typical of Stinger products. Other person reviewing this item probably works for the company :)...

I only wish flowtron would make similar product...

I did a diy install over the dining room table. I thought it was easy to put together and install. The light is beautiful. The shells are lovely with the light off and have a warm glow when on. The metal on the sides makes a striped pattern on the wall. I used a dimmer which was not necessary but nice. Be aware that the metal bars limit how high you can hang this light. On 8ft ceilings this light comes down to my forehead (I am 5'8")

The item was returned because it did not work. The wiring and construction was flimsy and their were too many small parts some of which will not fit. It cost me time, money and energy to put on and had to take it down as it won't turn on. To make the matter worse seller(Stack and Shack) told me that manufacturer told them that it worked in their shop and will not refund full amount too. Beware and do not buy this light.
