Product exceeded my expectations. Quality build all-in-all, all metal housing, and not just metal but good quality metal (i.e. thick for a lamp of this price). Easily adjustable from 0 degree to 180 degrees. I put CFL Daylights and can be used for a picture/display light, pointed at ceiling for better light spread/dispersement or on a bookshelf pointed down as a desk lamp.

Will buy more, will recommend to friends.

I bought this spotlight to shine on a company logo on a wall in front of large window at night. That way, I can get some branding when people pass by without running up the electrical bill. I also bought a CFL flood light bulb (GE Lighting Energy Smart CFL 20708 16-Watt, 750-Lumen R30 Floodlight Bulb with Medium Base, 1-Pack) so that the unit won't get hot and be a fire risk. So far, it's worked exactly as planned. It's thin and light without being flimsy. My only complaints would be that there's no easy way to tighten the screws that determine the angle of the light, and the whole thing would be sturdier if it was a little heavier. Other than that, it's a good little spotlight for a good price.

The packaging image, the Amazon page description, and even the Satco website, all say as of today (November 2012) that this range of fixtures (in various colors) can handle 75 watts max. I just received this today, however, and the packaging has been changed to say 60 watts max. (Obviously they must have been having some issues so reduced it.)

Unfortunately, based on this information I had already ordered the grow bulb to go with it. Keep this in mind if considering this fixture. Other than that it's pretty much as you would expect in build quality. No surprises to report there.

Pros:

This item is indeed good looking

The quality of light you get under and around the lamp is very good easy to the eyes.

Cons:

Arrived a bit beaten up the packaging looked adequate enough to tour the world but apparently, it needs more. It came in two pieces (the base was already connected to the main portion, and it was bent I used tools to make it straight again and it was chipped on the connection point).

Although it looks like a table lamp, I would recommend putting it high. Otherwise you get very strong light from the open top when you walk by when you place it, it has its limitations the top part must be HIGHER than your eye level.

I have bought a lot of these because I move frequently. My overal feel and instict says that this is a little over-priced. But at the end, I can not complain about the price because it's a good item. But they should also specify that it's made in China this lamp appears on a few sites while browsing things "made in America". It's not.

I'll give it 4 stars because of the quality of light around it. Very easy on the eyes. You should combine it with a natural light bulb.

I bought these glass light bulbs since I find that 'bare spiral' type CFL bulbs emit lighting that's too harsh. Also, the 'bare spiral' shape is just not suited for pendant light fixtures.

This GE Energy-Smart Covered Glass CFL Light Bulb (with its tiny electronic ballast) looks like a regular incandescent light bulb but has all the advantages of fluorescent lighting. The GE 75-watt Equivalent uses only 20 watts effectively an energy reduction of over 70% great!

Since fluorescent bulbs do not generate as much heat as regular incandescent light bulbs, I find this GE CFL light bulb ideal for the pendant light fixture above my kitchen table.

The color temperature of this CFL glass light bulb is 2700K the same color temperature of a regular incandescent light bulb. The light produced by this CFL bulb appears yellowish white so you get the same warm glow of an incandescent lamp with less than 30% of the energy! That = $avings! :))

A FURTHER NOTE ON BULB COLOR TEMPERATURE: As the color temperature increases to 3000K 3500K, the color of the light appears less yellow and more white. A bulb with a color temperature of 5000K or higher, produces light that appears bluish white this is the color temperature of daylight.

ABOUT THE BULB'S WARM UP PERIOD: Compact fluorescents in general require a warm-up period to reach peak luminous power. Although this is an inherent issue with current CFL technology, many reviewers cite the long 'warm up period' as a negative ... and indeed it is, especially with this bulb's tiny electronic ballast. It takes longer to warm up than regular CFL bulbs with bulky ballasts.

I conducted my own 'tests' on the 'warm up period' of the GE 20-Watt Energy-Smart Covered Glass CFL Light Bulbs. When switched on, this CFL Light Bulb starts up at about 40% brightness and reaches its peak brightness after about 2.5 minutes. I took out one star for the long 'warm-up' time.

Being a long time user of CFL bulbs, I have since adjusted to their quirky 'warm up' issue. Nowadays, the only place I recommend using incandescent light bulbs is in your bathroom. You certainly don't want to take a nasty tumble there in the middle of the night!

ALSO RECOMMENDED: The lower wattage GE CFL Light Bulbs, 40-Watt Equivalent is suitable for your Vanity Light. Also, the GE CFL Light Bulbs, 60-Watt Equivalent provides adequate lighting for a small room.

The long warmup time is for real. I have some uses that can tolerate that quite well. In one room, the light goes on at dark and off at 10:30PM. This works well for that. Not usable with dimmers or electronic timers. A lampshade that clips onto a standard incandescent will fit and hold on this "bulb', but it is a tight fit. The curly lamps will not hold such a shade and require a harp shade. This lamp serves some purposes well. Not well suited for some other purposes.

This is the future of home lighting. Get used to it. In a few years, the old style light bulbs will no longer be sold. It's not how long it takes to warm up, it's how much energy you save, and how much money you also save on your electric bill. I just put one of these in, it's fine. A 100 watt version would be nice, I don't know if they make them yet.

I purchased this package of bulbs, along with another item. The 'other item' was a large dehumidifier that weighed over 40lbs. An Amazon doo-fus packed these light bulbs in the same box (yes, I said that...the same box) as the 40+ lb dehumidifier. You guessed it...the bulbs were crushed to white powder upon delivery. The package was there, but full of powder. Bizarre. Apparently, one can't call Amazon. So, I attempted to get a replacement. They wanted me to 'return' the white powder...I did not, as my explanation clearly explained the details of the damaged package and white powder. Now, Amazon is charging me a second time for the replacements they sent me. Very frustrating. One of the pitfalls of ordering through Amazon. I spend, conservatively, $1,000 year on this site over dozens of orders each year. This is the first mess I've encountered with Amazon, so I'll continue to order. BUT, I'll refrain from ordering light bulbs at the same time I order anything else.

i'm using these in my kitchen and when u turn them on it takes a few minutes to get fully bright. once they finally become fully bright, they look like a regular bulb. i'm looking for other bulbs to replace these with because i don't like waiting until i can fully see. when i am ready to cook, i'm ready to cook.

I ordered a 24-pack each of the 100 Watt and 60 Watt bulbs. The box was well packed and received with not a single broken bulb! I tested a few of each of the bulbs from each 24-pack and they worked with no problems. The construction of these bulbs appears higher in quality than the GE and Sylvania bulbs I have been buying, especially the soldering on the screw end and side. Some name-brand bulbs I have purchased have big solder globs making it difficult to screw them in or remove them from the light socket.

Please be aware that these bulbs are rated for 130V and 120V operation will produce less light and will look slightly more yellow-orange in color. I am a professional photographer with color darkroom experience so very familiar with "color temperature." The 100 Watt bulb looked about the same brightness when placed next to a 75 Watt bulb, and the color was almost identical. My outlet voltage tends to run high at 120V to 122V, because I have a transformer on the utility pole right in front of my house. If you live farther from the closest transformer or in a rural area the voltage may be as low as 110V to 115V. If so, these 130V bulbs may not be the best choice Light output drops off very quickly with lower voltage and will be much warmer in color (yellow-orange). But even at low line voltage they are a good choice for outside lights and hard-to-reach bulbs, since they will last 2 to 3 times longer than a standard 120V bulb. They will also look brighter and more pleasing than those nasty CFL bulbs!

Another "bright" idea is to try mixing your light sources by using a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)in some fixtures and these 130V incandescent bulbs in others. This works especially well with light fixtures that have two or more sockets. CFL bulbs are colder in color toward blue-green. The yellow-orange color of these 130V bulbs will help to provide a more pleasing light when used together with CFL bulbs. You will also be saving on energy, just not as much as using CFL bulbs in ALL your sockets.

I first learned about these bulbs 15 years ago, where we used them in commercial applications. I can tell you that these bulbs last longer than anything else we tried. I finally started buying them for my own personal use, and some of these in my house are still burning after nearly 10 years. Compared to other 130 Volt bulbs, these are hands down the best bulb I have ever tried...and I have tried a bunch of them.

One bulb was broken in the box. It was not in an end package so I am not sure how it got broken. I suspect that it was broken prior to shipment. I have used the Decade 20,000 hour version of this light bulb and loved it. Will have to see how long this bulb lasts. Hope this lasts well.

I've had this light for a couple of years as a behind-the-monitor ambient light to lessen eye strain. It worked as a lamp should -until the bulb went out. And there are ZERO sources for replacing this bulb. Sure, you can find 13 watt fluorescent desk lamps, but you WILL NOT find them in a four-prong linear arrangement.

The small picture of this product made it difficult to see any detail. I ordered it somewhat apprehensively. I was thrilled when it arrived! The faux wood is very real looking. The shade is what I would describe as tan rather than the ivory it appears to be in the picture. The tan shade compliments the lamp very nicely. The lamp is perfectly proportioned in real life. Again, in the picture the shade looks larger than it is. The picture does not do it justice. This is one of the most attractive lamps I have ever purchased. Have been outfitting a 5BR boarding house the past year, including two solar lanterns in each window. This purchase is my third Smart Solar lantern purchase, the other two are square with the dragonfly and scroll patterns.

This lamp isn't nearly as nice as the other two to look at up close. The top and bottom are plastic with a rubbed bronze appearance, same as the others, and that part is just fine. But the plastic cylinder looks chintz. I suppose it is 'frosted,' but looking at it in daylight the patterned cylinder portion of the lantern looks like it's from a promotional 2-liter bottle design. Lit up on the sill of a window facing the street the effect of the patterns is good, and in the middle of a dark room even better as the pattern can be seen on the walls. Also there's a reflective plastic square in the base. The other problem with its appearance (to me) is that you can see there's nothing inside the lantern. By contrast the square table lanterns by Smart Solar have translucent plastic sides for a far superior appearance. With this one you can see through to the other side and the lack of anything inside the lantern makes it look even more like something you might have made with a plastic bottle.

At fifteen dollars delivered it would have been a good deal (for me at least) for me to put something decorative like a candle or some flowers in it and put it on my stoop. But from experience solar lights left outside might as well have a sign on them saying "Steal Me." To finish ripping on the design I'll just add that I tried it out for a few nights on the bottom sill of a floor-to-ceiling window and even from the sidewalk it had an unacceptably cheap appearance.

Quality solar lanterns tend to be expensive, and as they put out a small amount of light for as long as possible the amount of light can disappoint buyers who aren't familiar with the limitations of solar lighting. In Arizona in the Summer lanterns by Smart Solar may well remain on until dawn. Here in Oregon I tend to get three or four hours after dusk, especially in the windows with less than ideal sunlight.

If you're looking for just one solar lantern, and it's going to be displayed where it can be viewed up close you'll likely be disappointed in this product, and by comparison the appearance of Smart Solar's square lanterns is superb. And for the craft-minded, you can put whatever suits your fancy and is weatherproof in it and put it on your porch. And then, who knows, maybe you'll end up in the 'Victims of Solar Lantern Theft' club too!

This is such a beautiful lamp, and it is very fragile. When you first receive this product, you first need to assemble it which is very easy and a breeze! My mom loves owls so she had to get this wonderful lamp. The only down side, which I'm sure is not the sellers fault, is that one light bulb was broken when it arrived. It was easily replaced but it's still a let down. All in all I do not regret this purchase one bit!
