I live on the east coast and we are experiencing sporatic power outages due to the storms from the past few days. I purchased my illumaguard several weeks ago and when the power went out last night my light flickered off and immediately came back on. I turned it off when I went to bed and early this morning when I woke up to no power I turned it back on. It's amazing. It lit up my family room, kitchen and stairs. You must use a smaller watt bulb with this or else it will not work in a power outage. Upon charging it the first time, it worked, however, the second time, I couldn't get it to light the bulb at all. I have not had a real power outage to test it out timewise. I'm crossing my fingers, hoping it works when I need it most. Very pretty product. Very heavy duty.

Have been outfitting a 5BR boarding house the past year, including two solar lanterns in each window. This purchase is my third Smart Solar lantern purchase, the other two are square with the dragonfly and scroll patterns.

This lamp isn't nearly as nice as the other two to look at up close. The top and bottom are plastic with a rubbed bronze appearance, same as the others, and that part is just fine. But the plastic cylinder looks chintz. I suppose it is 'frosted,' but looking at it in daylight the patterned cylinder portion of the lantern looks like it's from a promotional 2-liter bottle design. Lit up on the sill of a window facing the street the effect of the patterns is good, and in the middle of a dark room even better as the pattern can be seen on the walls. Also there's a reflective plastic square in the base. The other problem with its appearance (to me) is that you can see there's nothing inside the lantern. By contrast the square table lanterns by Smart Solar have translucent plastic sides for a far superior appearance. With this one you can see through to the other side and the lack of anything inside the lantern makes it look even more like something you might have made with a plastic bottle.

At fifteen dollars delivered it would have been a good deal (for me at least) for me to put something decorative like a candle or some flowers in it and put it on my stoop. But from experience solar lights left outside might as well have a sign on them saying "Steal Me." To finish ripping on the design I'll just add that I tried it out for a few nights on the bottom sill of a floor-to-ceiling window and even from the sidewalk it had an unacceptably cheap appearance.

Quality solar lanterns tend to be expensive, and as they put out a small amount of light for as long as possible the amount of light can disappoint buyers who aren't familiar with the limitations of solar lighting. In Arizona in the Summer lanterns by Smart Solar may well remain on until dawn. Here in Oregon I tend to get three or four hours after dusk, especially in the windows with less than ideal sunlight.

If you're looking for just one solar lantern, and it's going to be displayed where it can be viewed up close you'll likely be disappointed in this product, and by comparison the appearance of Smart Solar's square lanterns is superb. And for the craft-minded, you can put whatever suits your fancy and is weatherproof in it and put it on your porch. And then, who knows, maybe you'll end up in the 'Victims of Solar Lantern Theft' club too!

I almost bought the Softech-natural Light LED Multi-function Desk Lamp White lamp. While searching for the best price I came across this LED lamp.

From the description and photos I thought this lamp was a rebranded Softech DL90 LED Lamp at almost 1/3 the price. I guess I should have known better. A quick look at the dimensions of this lamp and the Softech DL90 show they are exactly the same. Not true, see below. This is what fooled me. I did not look closely enough at the photos to realize there were differences in construction and that this was a different lamp. The description of this lamp and the Softech are very similar.

First the negatives:

Does not have a dimmer function! The description says "Advanced Mood Dimmer allows for multiple levels of Light Color (cold to warm) and brightness"

This lamp does have 4 color temperature settings like the Softech lamp. But there is no dimmer control.

I guess an argument could be made that the 4 color temperature settings also have different apparent brightness levels. The bright white setting appears brighter to the eye than the warm yellow light setting. But my take on the description is that each color temperature is also dimmable. This is not true and might be considered false advertising. At the very least it is misleading advertising.

The vertical riser is fixed. It cannot be tilted forward or back.

Another area of misleading/false advertising are the dimensions of this lamp. It is claimed to be 17.7 inches tall just like the Softech. Actual height is just under 17 inches. The round base is claimed to be 7 inches but is actually 8 inches.

On the plus side:

The light is bright and even.

The arm containing the LED's can be rotated on it's axis, allowing you to throw light to either side.

My Kill A Watt meter shows this lamp draws 4-6 watts depending on the color temperature setting.

Bottom line:

If you can live without the dimmer control and the ability to tilt the vertical riser this lamp appears to be a good deal. Some of the features of the Softech DL90 at nearly 1/3 the price.

And if you want to be able to rotate the LED arm about it's axis, then this might be your lamp.

On the one hand there is no dimmer control, which I was looking forward to. On the other hand the fixed lighting is good and this lamp is almost 1/3 the price of a Softech DL90, which I was considering. Haven't decided yet if I will keep it or send it back. If it goes back it will be due solely to the lack of dimming.

Just received it today, so durability is unknown.

While the lamps in the picture appeared to be nice, I will never know how nice they might be. I placed my order on March 17 and received a response that I should have them between March 26th and 29th. I had guests coming around that time and I was redecorating my family room, so I thought they would be perfect. On March 28th, I received an email from Home and Living, telling me that the lamps were on back-order until MAY 31st!!! They offered a meager 10% discount for the inconvenience. Since my guests were arriving on the 30th, I did not have time to go shopping for lamps and had to "make do" with the lamps I already had. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and cancelled the order. If I had received a notification of the back order sooner, I would have had time to go out and find some lamps locally. I will never order from this company again and I would advise anyone else not to order unless you have two or three months to wait around for what you need. You might be better off buying from another seller, or finding what you need locally. I hope which ever way you go, you'll have better success than I did.

This company has been the best that I have ever ordered from. I had ordered these lamps and I unpacked them (they were packaged great) the first lamp I plugged in was fine I went to plug in the other one and sparks went flying I knew it was not my plug in because I had a lamp plugged in the socket before so I tried another socket same thing. The next day I called them and left a message about the lamp they tried calling back but I was at work and could not answer they sent me an email and wanted to know what was wrong I explained to them they emailed back and said no problem they would have get another set out by fedex the next day. Because of the lack of details in the description, we were quite apprehensive when we ordered it. We weren't sure if it would be a "swag" set up we'd need to plug into the wall or a true "ceiling" fixture. Contrary to appearance in the pix, it DOES attatch to the ceiling! YEAH! We also weren't sure if the colors would be as bright and distinct as in the pix. They ARE! Just an FYI: the stained "glass" is textured plastic, which works out great for us, and overall makes it lighter, easier and less worrisome to handle while putting it up! We would have appreciated more details in the description, but looks FABULOUS, gives great light and we're VERY happy with it.

I had read the comments of others and questioned what this was made of (plastic or glass). One person said it was plastic but others swore it was glass. Well the one I got is PLASTIC!!!!!!! It also did not match the picture online. A true stained glass light would have the pieces of glass soldered together the one I got has plastic parts glued in place. I am going to live with this light but I just want to warn others that you may get a plastic one. I had looked at others at various lighting studios and the true glass Tiffany are $400 to $500. So I got what I paid for!!!!

This lamp was described as" "13''L x 16''H x 13''W. The Primary colors are shade of orange with red and white". It is in fact 18" in diameter, 21" tall, and the primary colors are shades GREENS and BLUES with accents of violet, peach and white,and reddish-orange and blue cabochons; MUCH prettier than described! It does look just like the stock photo, but more vibrant, and the greens come through a little more (see photos that I uploaded). The lamp would have looked too large on my end table were it not for the fact that the squat proportions (diameter being almost the same as the height) are very attractive.

The base is NOT made of zinc, but rather a resin-like material, and there is a defect along the top of the base (as an artist, I notice these things). The top surface of the base looks as if the mold was a little warped-barely noticable, and does not detract from the lamp. The inner parts are real metal though. I really like the night light feature-you can illuminate the bottom by itself.

I am not sure if the glass(and it is real glass,upon close inspection, it has all sorts of little bubbles and irregularities in it) is really soldered with lead as the description claims, as it is MUCH lighter than a regular Tiffany lampshade. It does appear to be foiled ith real copper, as a small thread of copper was visible in one of the joins in strong sunlight. But no matter, even if this this a fake,(I mean not real lead,but rather resin and high quality plastic) it is just gorgeous, is a real eye-catcher in my living room and for sure, the price was right! I added two spiral flourescent 60 watt (actually 15 watt) CFC bulbs on top, to avoid overheating and possibly damaging the lamp. If you are looking for authenticity and for what the description claims, I would question this...a LOT. But if you want a gorgeous and beautifully done accent piece for the right price, than I would definitely recommend this lamp. Overall, I am very happy with it. 4 out of 5 because the descripton is inaccurate. But I'll still give it 5 out of 5 for beauty and value.

This is a very nice lamp for the cost. My first shipment arrived with one of the three legs cracked off. Amazon was its usual amazing self in replacing it promptly and having UPS pick up the damaged item for return. Just be realistic when ordering these Stained Glass type lamps for under $200 that you are getting an inexpensively made product. That is not to say it doesn't look good; it does; very good for the money, but it is not a high quality product.

The lamp I received looks very very close to the picture here on the web site.

With any item of art like this I feel one is better off shopping in-person; but these days when cost is a huge consideration for most this method and item can be trusted to deliver so long as your expectations are reasonable.

It arrived in mint condition, no scratches, etc. This lamp is not very large, it's medium sized which is perfect for my small living room & space saver narrow end table. I placed 60 watt cfl's that work out great. I found these cool medium based bulbs (40 & 60 watt) @ Home Depot that have a normal shape w/ the spiral fixture inside a silicone outer bulb, never seen that before but their great! Nice little lamp & the on/off switch is in the cord which isn't mentioned! I had been searching for months for a lamp all around town & the internet before I found this one. Found it on a few online sites, but as always I get best deal @ Amazon!
