I've owned several of these type lamps over the years. I purchased them for my nighstand lighting and I have candles that illuminate the room better than these. There were no directions and for as small as they are, were fustrating to put together. They seem like something my son made for a school project. Very disappointed for the price I paid.

This is extremely well made: weighty, with the acrylic top diffuser and very good even lighting. Although it looks top heavy with its small base and narrow stem, it's very stable.

A possible concern that will only become apparent after some usage is the white plastic inner liner. I owned an infrequently used lamp (by a different company) that had the same hard plastic liner. It became brittle and crumbled after a year, even using lower wattage than recommended. Plastic quality varies so much that I'm perhaps needlessly worried, but it did lower my rating.

When the lamp is on, it "shows" as black circles on white which doesn't fit my dream of the perfect lamp for my decor. Would have preferred a silver or fine aluminum mesh liner that kept a more uniform metal appearance.

From a purely design perspective, I feel the large shade overpowers the stem and base not in sync as a whole. Picky, picky.

In all, it's almost 5 star for quality and 3 star for my personal taste.

I bought this mod lamp as a companion to it's matching floor lamp. Yes, yes, that's a little "matchy-matchy", but like it's floor lamp partner this is such a heavy, sleek lamp that it was irresistible. I looked at lamps of similar size, heft and style at a swanky brick & mortar store for literally 4 times the price. This one arrived in two days and I assembled it myself in 10 minutes. It throws a lot of light downward, perfect for reading, and can be adjusted to shine one or both of the included CFL bulbs. I was concerned that light would be annoying through the decorative holes in the shade, but this is not case. The holes "glow", but light is not cast through them. Do be aware that this is a large lamp, so make sure your space can handle it. This is a fantastic lamp.

My wife purchased this lamp from a store near our apartment and it looks great. Quite heavy and feels well constructed. The pull chains work smoothly and the frosted glass at the top of the lamp diffuses the light while keeping the bulbs from being in plain view. The metal pattern over the shade is well done with no imperfections that I could see. We have two CFL bulbs in the lamp now, but I believe it would work with standard bulbs also. All in all, a very nice table lamp for this price. Amazon also offers this same style in a floor lamp and a ceiling chandelier, so we may purchase more lamps with this design.

This "clamp on" lamp features an idiotic clamp designa curved "L" shaped bolt that slips into the plastic base of the lamp. The problem with this design is that if the weight of the lamp is slightly off centersay if you want to extend it or rotate it around, thus rocking ityou will unavoidably cause the entire clamp assembly to fall apart and the lamp will come crashing down. For $20 it's not worth sending back, but if I had it to do over again I would definitely NOT buy this lamp.

I love this lamp, yeah the clamp is worthless but you don't have to use it. The base has four screw holes in it so you can permanently attach it to the desk if you want. I have a cheap Ikea computer desk and screwed it to the top shelf. I can move it anywhere I want with the long arm and get plenty of light. It even came with a 23w CFL bulb which is the brightest I've ever owned. It gives off as much as a 100w incandescent bulb without the heat. I had an old one of these lamps with plastic parts which kept breaking off and I'd have to improvise parts to keep it working. This lamp comes with metal parts that will not be breaking anytime soon.

So bottom line, if you don't mind screwing the lamp to the desk top this is a great lamp for the money. If that is not an option for you don't buy it, the clamp will not suffice in holding it up.

February 24, 2013.... still love this lamp. Using the same bulb and looks and works like it is right out of the box. I use it 10 hours a day six days a week and it is great!

I have a similar Alvin swing lamp and thought it was the same product under a different brand. I wanted it in red, so I decided to get the Litesource one. I was mistaken. It looks like the same lamp but the quality is much worse. The clamp design is very bad on all lamps of this type, but this one is made of apparently an even worse plastic and part of it was cracked and snapped off as I was taking it out of the box. The pins that hold the tension rods are made of metal on the Alvin lamp, but here they are made from a plastic that bends and looks like it is about to snap off (and release a spring into someone's eye!) One of the springs came off in the box because of that. The switch cover does not stay in place. Etc. Too bad I liked the red color, but I am getting a refund.

I like the light, but the clamp component is small and doesn't stay tight. When trying to swing the arm, the whole clamp swings sometimes. I think it was overpriced for the clamp trouble I have had. For the money spent, I expected it all to work well. Also, the clamp size is limited to slender table tops. It's unstable if it's open wide. I wished I would have just gotten a table top model as this has proved to be a bit annoying.

I came across Ott products a few years ago and was attracted by the claim by Ott that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night. One of the desk lamps that I own is almost identical to this model.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

The base of the lamp is well-done and of good quality. However, the lampshade, harp, and finial are either of the cheapest materials or poor workmanship. The switch is not of good quality. Now to the fairness issue: this is a typical import lamp. (I've looked at a lot of lamps over the past year.) When compared to lamps made more than ten years ago, there is a world of difference in the product. It is not a bad lamp by today's standards. I'm just having trouble coming to terms with the fact that this is an example of how little we can expect to get for quite a bit of money spent.

I returned this lamp for multiple reasons. The socket assembly didn't screw in fully, which left the bulb/shade very wobbly, the shade was dented and the seam open (not at all glued), there were scratches on the base, and the hole in the finial was drilled off center, giving the entire lamp a look that matched its lack of stability. If this wasn't enough to make me not love it, a friend and I both felt that the shade was too small for the size of the base. What it did have going for it was good colors and a warm look.

I knew this was not crystal or glass but it really does look like plastic. I regret not spending a little more for a table lamp with actual glass or crystal. It is heavy, very stable on the end table I have it on.

Just received this lamp and I am quite pleased. The lamp is tall and the shades are not in a straight row but gradually come away from the lamp with the top one being the one that is furthest away. The lamp must be placed on a table that is at least 17 inches in depth, depth being measured from the front of the table to the back of the table, no smaller. The width of the table that it is placed on should be at least 20" wide from the left side of the table to the right side of the table. If placed on a smaller surface the highest of the 3 shades will probably stick out over the table. Anyone walking nearby can easily brush against the shade and down goes the lamp, shades and all. You have the ability of using 1, 2 or 3 of the lights. You can dim them or for reading make them as bright as they are capable of being. The switch is located on the lamp base. I would have given this 5 stars had the arms been adjustable. A few years ago I purchased a lamp which also had arms like these the only difference being that the arms on the lamp which I purchased awhile ago are adjustable. When reading you can adjust the arms so that you can place the light where you feel it is the most comfortable and advantageous. For some reason the lamps that are sold today that are similar looking to these do not come with adjustable arms. Nevertheless this is a very attractive lamp which is also functional giving off quite a bit of light. It takes 3 halogen bulbs which can get extremely hot but give off more light then a regular bulb. I had the lamp facing forward and was able to read my book without any problem regarding having enough bright light to read by. Light dusting is all that is needed. Any dusting should be done when the lamp has been off for a while and is not hot. Considering that the arms are not adjustable this lamp is quite adequate for any activity that requires a bright light and is an attractive addition to any room.

CORRECTION: Just took another look at this item. It is somewhat adjustable. The shade and bulb portion situated at the top of each arm can be adjusted individually. This part of the lamp can be positioned so that they all face down or each of the 3 bulbs and shades can be adjusted individually by turning just that portion (the entire arm remains intact except for the top where the shade and bulb are connected to the arm) allowing you to utilize each of the 3 lights where they will do the most good. They will remain at the same level since they cannot be moved up or down but the light source for each arm can be adjusted regarding brightness (the switch that turns on the lamp can make the lamp dimmer or brighter)in addition to allowing you to reposition each of the 3 shade and bulb portions of the lamp. You can adjust the light source so that it is positioned just where you want the light to be directed. The lights can be individually directed to 3 different areas at once (facing down, to the left or to the right) if you so desire. Because of the fact that the light sources on the lamp can be repositioned, I have given this lamp 5 stars instead of 4.

I purchased this lamp mainly because it folded up flat for easy moving (as I'm in college, space is important). The lamp has 5 different brightness levels (controlled via TOUCHPAD!). The LEDs are very bright and light up my entire desk quite well.

Con:

The only con I have is that the lamp head is kind of loose, so it's hard to keep it from folding down on itself sometimes. It takes a few times to get it to stay at your preferred angle. Not too much of a con, but can be annoying if a nudge the lamp hard enough and the head just folds in.

Overall a good purchase (as I desperately needed to get a desk lamp), and I definitely recommend this lamp!

Styling: Aesthetic and functional style of this lamp is amazing. I love the accent colors along the top and the colored touch pad. The ac to dc transformer is small enough that it doesn't obstruct other plugs, a huge plus. Did I mention it has a touch pad? Fancy!

Efficiency/ Energy use: My killawat measures a 12 watt pull at full power a bit more than the description claims but still just a fraction of the pull from its halogen powered predecessor.

Potential negatives:

Light colorThe light has a definite blue color to it. I don't see this as a problem, but buyers should be aware as many have a strong preference toward warm light spectrum, this is most certainly on the cold side.

FingerprintsThe entire black surface of the lamp is high gloss, and a finger print magnet. After only a day of use it's covered in them. I don't see this as a problem but again, that's personal preference.

CostDang, this thing is costly, I mean yeah, it looks great, but it's a desk lamp. I'm still trying to justify to myself why I spent this much.

All in all, I'm satisfied. I reserve 5 star ratings only for phenomenal products. Don't get me wrong, this is a great product and I'm very satisfied and would recommend it.

The good? This is a bright LED lamp with modern styling. The multiple dim settings are nice. The bad? Dollar store quality manufacturing (made in China of course)... The case is made of cheap, glossy black plastic. The arm doesn't lock in place and is very loose and easy to knock out of position. The power connector is also loose and moving the lamp can easily shut it off (even if the power adapter is connected). The touch controls are kind of neat, but that also makes it easy to hit the wrong thing.
