I bought this for my massage office thinking it would be a nice, warm, glow in the corner but, its like a spotlight! If you are looking for soothing lighting, this is not the lamp for you! This lamp seems like it would break extremely easily. I am pretty bummed about paying so much for something so cheaply made! Next time I'll go with something more durable.

The lamp is not sturdy, but with a dimmer socket in place, it is an attractive way to light a room. I have several at home. It is easy to put together. It has it switch on the cord which makes it a bit difficult to reach if the cord is directly falling down behind a table where the lamp is situated.

I received this item as a Christmas gift a couple of years back. I loved the look of it, and it fit into a very tight spot between my bed and the wall with the including clamp. Shortly after setting it up, I noticed that the light would flicker in intensity intermittently while using it. The problem was off and on, but very annoying for a device you use to read at night by. I contacted Koncept customer support and they were willing to look at it, if i sent it in to them at my own expense. I did so, and after a couple of weeks received the same unit back, with a statement that they could not verify the problem, but replaced the power brick anyway. This did the trick, and I happily enjoyed it for almost a year. Shortly after the one-year warranty expired, the switch to turn it on and off died altogether. A quick google of the issue shows me that it is not isolated at all, and that they used a switch that does not stand up well to use over time. Despite several attempts to contact customer support over the design issue, they were unresponsive.

So while I love the design of Koncept's lamps, I cannot and will not recommend their products to ANYONE.

Ordered this model after reseaching LED lamps on many web sites. This is an excellent lamp for my computer desktop. The silver looks great against my Dell brushed aluminum LCD monitor. Positioning is flexible with the double joints, twisting lamp bar, and included heavy base or clamp mount. Construction has a very solid, durable feel yet is lightweight. Four brightness levels provide more than enough light. I keep it on 3 for computer work. Really like LED low heat and limited angle of projection. This allows me to position this just in front of my monitor without producing screen glare or shining back in my eyes. Yes it is more expensive than most but since it gets used all day every day it is well worth the price to me.

I had some apprehension about such an expensive desk lamp, but I am glad I took the plunge. I was looking for a non-fluorescent articulating desk lamp. Most articulating lamps need constant fiddling/tightening, and don't hold their position very well. The Z-Bar stays right where you put it. No fuss, no tightening or loosening. It also has a tiny footprint. I am using the included desk clamp to attach it to the desktop hole made for wires.

The lamp puts out good light. It doesn't irritate me like fluorescents, and it is almost soothing (I purchased the "Daylight" model). The six individual lights do create a slight six shadow effect. If you can, set the light so that it illuminates from the opposite of your dominate hand (if you are right handed, have it shine from the left so as not to create a shadow from your hand onto your work.

The Z-Bar puts out good light wherever you shine it but it does not cast much ambient light, and the work area is somewhat small (read: if you are looking to light up a room, this is not what you want). You can raise the lamp higher for a broader area.

Bonus: this sucker does not get hot (pretty warm, but not hot). At any time you can touch the lamp without fear. It also uses only 9 watts at full brightness (compared to, say, 60 watts for a normal incandescent).

My only other complaints are niggling. Turning the unit on/off requires 4 presses of either the + or buttons (though the buttons are of good quality and easily accessible). Also, it is a contemporary looking light. Not my style, but I will accept its function over form. Despite the look, it is fairly non-obtrusive, and it goes with pretty much any modern-day office gear (I got the silver).

This is a great and functional product of high quality. After a childhood of being hit on the head with a burning hot desk lamp that wouldn't stay put, I feel that I am finally beginning to see the light (or is that the result of repeated head trauma? ... ). I recommend this product! If you spend a lot of time at work and hate fluorescents, you may wish to spend a bit of scratch on decent lighting. It's a quality of life issue.

(side note: I originally bought the mini-high power led desk lamp. It was nice, but too dinky, so I returned it. I would only recommend that model for a very small work area.)

The light is REALLY concentrated, as in only 1 foot of space receives 90% of the light. This light is sufficient for up to the width of an open text book, but not enough to light up more than that text book or your whole desk. Also, I can see dark spots on the lit area that correspond to the gaps between the LEDs of the bar. It's a little nauseating when I'm trying to study, and it's apparent enough that I can't ignore it. The z-bar is really light and mobile, but I don't move it much from my desk. It doesn't emit any noticeable heat, but the bar gets really hot if you touch it (duh). Did I regret buying it for so much money? Yeah, as you can see I'm pretty dissatisfied with the illumination and those dark spots.

I could have bought a much less expensive desk lamp but I am a tekkie and this lamp looks so good on my desk.

I had originally ordered the 'HIGH POWER' with 6 Next-Gen high power LEDs

& Built-in 4-step dimmer, but due to a mix up somewhere I got the 'Super Bright 66-LED Z-Bar LED Desk Lamp By Koncept', instead. I was somewhat disappointed until I tried this one and found it to be completely capable of illuminating my desk top to a comfortable brightness level.

I notified customer service people at Bigamazonstore (the Amazon seller) of the shipping error, and they e-mailed me very quickly with an offer to send a return shipping label and a swap or credit may account with the difference. I opted for the credit. If I knew the 'HIGH POWER' version was significantly brighter than this one I would have waited for the swap.

I find the light quality to be great for reading with my aging eyes. Text and graphics 'POP' right out of the paper. The light is bluer than sunlight and some people might prefer a warmer light. Without breaking out my light meter and running comparisons I would say this light is at least as bright as a 2 tube fluorescent lamp but with no buzz, no flicker, instant on, and one quarter the power consumption. I wouldn't want to use this light to grade high quality photos for a magazine layout.

Again my hat is off to customer support at Bigamazonstore for their quality response.

I returned this lamp for multiple reasons. The socket assembly didn't screw in fully, which left the bulb/shade very wobbly, the shade was dented and the seam open (not at all glued), there were scratches on the base, and the hole in the finial was drilled off center, giving the entire lamp a look that matched its lack of stability. If this wasn't enough to make me not love it, a friend and I both felt that the shade was too small for the size of the base. What it did have going for it was good colors and a warm look.

Short version:

If it breaks out of warranty, there's no way to repair it. Philips offers zero customer support for the device--most divisions of the company don't even know it exists--and you can't find replacement parts for it.

Long version:

I bought this about two weeks after it first came out, during a trip to Amsterdam. (It wasn't yet available in the U.S.) I brought it home to the States and it worked perfectly. It's true that it's pretty dim, and the remote is kind of clunky and gigantic, but it's very pleasing in a small or darkened room.

Then about 16 months after I bought it, it stopped working.

I spent around 2.5 hours calling every Philips number I could find, both in the U.S. and in Europe, and NOBODY could help me. Most people I reached didn't even knew what I was talking about. I finally found a third party Philip replacement parts store in England and asked them if they sold spare remotes or bulb assemblies for this, and they didn't.

The official Philips websites for the lamp had no useful information at all regarding repairs.

So although I loved it, be warned that the support from Philips is abysmal, and there's no way to repair it if it breaks after your warranty period. It really soured me on Philips products because I ultimately felt that I paid way too much for a badly made product.

Its a very interesting concept. I think the colors are pretty amazing. If It cost 40$ Id probably be giving it 4 or 5 stars, but at this price I just feel it it not a high star purchase unless you just feel like you HAVE to have it. On the other hand, it pretty much does what it says it will. Others have covered the lack of repairability and the brightness issues. I have it in a very dim 10x12 foot room firing into top back corner off a bookshelf. It does color the whole room during the night without additional lights, but during the day its def more of a highlight spot lamp. Phillips probably needs to double the possible intensity and drop the price to 70$ or this will remain a highly niche product. As it stands, in order to really light a room you will need 3 or more of these suckers. Still as a really versatile nightlight or backlight or mood builder it is definitely a cool fixture that people will ooooh and ahhh over. I think my review should just about indicate why I give it 3 stars. There is a 5 star product in here somewhere, but this isnt quite the performance/value match I would look for to deserve that rating.

Earlier, I purchased a Multi-Color E27 LED Light bulb w/ Remote from Amazon and have greatly enjoyed it, but craved more -it simply didn't shine enough. My creative play-work demands being "in the flow" and mood lighting augments my output superbly, giving a real cinematic feel to even routine tasks like email. Before, I thought playing epic trailer music while pressing Reply would be enough, but clearly, I hadn't experienced mood lights.

Months ago, I read reviews of LivingColors and am surprised they still seem very rare Stateside (compared to earlier availability in Europe). A curiosity rather than a commercial phenomenon. While part of this may be due to cost, we each weigh our own priorities, right? Still, I hope for widespread adoption of these colors which feel alive, not unlike how every house has common lightbulbs. Since I already had such a good experience with limited mood lighting, I became intent on expanding my palette.

My ownership has only been several (intense) days, but what I tentatively conclude so far is: like cats, having only one LivingColors feels terribly lonely. Even the full-size Philips 69143/60/48 LivingColors Generation 2 Translucent Changing LED Lamp with Remote isn't enough to really light up my workspace at night, and the dynamics of contrast with another color adds so much value and spice. So, I also have a Philips 818564 LivingColors Mini Changing LED Lamp, White (I actually got it first, since the Gen 2 wasn't in stock). With the two of them combined, as you can clearly see in this video, there's a lot of joy to be had.

A future feature I'd add is the ability to program custom lighting sequences. Is an iPhone app for this too much to ask? It'd be a natural extension of the current color cycling option, which smoothly cycles through the spectrum on both the Gen 2 and the Mini, and whose speed can be changed, but you can't limit the range or trigger events more specifically. This would open up possibilities to sync to binaural beats and other synesthesiac promises, fulfilling Philips' advertising of really setting the tone in your home. (Or elsewhere.)

There are a few niggles I have as shown in the video, but my chief constructive criticism is I wish these puppies were brighter. While they certainly overwhelm my webcam, as other pictures I've taken show, there's plenty of darkness to encroach upon.

LED mood lighting in the home still feels like it's an infancy -not that we'd ever advance into a hippy-dippy psychedelia portrayed in so many 60s trip movies -but I'd still consider LivingColors for enthusiasts and early adopters like myself, who consider it an important part of your daily life due to your eclectic proclivities, and not just a casual interest. I just hope they don't burn out on me anytime soon.

Here's looking to a brighter future with Gen 3!

Imagine being able to change the mood of any room in your home. That's the Philips LivingColors Lamp. I was skeptical to buy the generation one model of this because some people complained it wasn't bright enough so I waited until this generation two model with "50% more brightness" (apparently) came out. It was worth the wait.

What this lamp does to a room is what movie directors try to do when they add a color tint to their shot it helps define the scene, and moves the audience accordingly. I might also compare this lamp to music, which could put you in certain moods depending on the song.

Put simply, this light sets the mood in a big way. Whether you're cuddling in a room with a loved one, adding pizazz to a party, or amplifying a rainy day, this is the light to do it.

I love this lamp I only wish it worked during the day; but alas, the physics of light has me beat on that one.

Make sure you measure carefully before you buy this lamp the shade is HUGE. I had to return it. Also the listing says distressed black base I believe but it is NOT distressed. It is a smooth and shiny black which gives it a more transitional bordering on contemporary look, rather than traditional. It really is a beautiful lamp and great quality, but it just didn't work in my home due to the size.

This lamp is absolutely beautiful from the finish to the quality of the lamp. Was looking for Nightllights that fit with an oriental theme and these worked like a charm.

Pros: Easy to assemble just fold out and use included tool to fit light socket to the lamp. Looks great.

Cons: Might be a bit dim with a regular lightbulb

I was afraid that a 60Watt bulb might cause heat issues with the lamp so I went with the slightly more expensive LED 60 watt equivalent bulb which produces no noticeable heat. It is a bit expensive at avg $25 a bulb but it was quite a bit brighter than I had anticipated and works wonderfully Setting on top of a mirrored surface really helps with the light as well as the brightest light obviously shines through the bottom.

Can't beat it for the price and I was so happy with the one I tried I got a second one for each side of the bed.

We are very satisfied with our purchase of two of these lamps for our bedroom. Considering they take two bulbs each, I may have expected more light, but we had intended on buying a floor lamp in addition to these anyway, so I am not complaining. They are prettier when lit, but attractive either way. There is a lot of yellow, orange and red in the shades with some purple here and there, matching perfectly with our red drapes and white walls. I would say they are fairly true to the picture.The stained glass bits feel more like plastic, but the overall look of the shade is so pretty we don't care either way.

This light is solid stainless steel metal, every screw, the shade, the base, and the joints. There is a counter-weight opposite the light to keep it balanced. The thumb-screws to tighten the joints are machined well and easy to use. You can positions the light at any height or direction and it will not tip over. The light is a tube light, which may be hard for some people to replace as you have to measure the diameter and length. Google "sizing a tube light" if you have any questions. Overall it's well built. There is a plexi-glass cover to the light.
