Love the lamp, but the switch to turn it on/off was defective. It would turn on, but not off. Had to take it to a lamp repair man (easier I thought than sending it back). I have another one in the den that worked just fine...in the looks department, it's great--not too big. I have one on either side of two recliners. The cork lamp shade is way cool.

Bought because of the minimalist design...unfortunately the lamp is made with minimalist craftsmanship.

1) difficult to put together

it is a nightmare to affix the lower tube into the base. a two person jobone person must hold the lamp column flush against the base while the other person must struggle to perfectly align the washer and nut. even then it took about an hour of failed attempts and a hammer to flatten the washer that became bent in the process.

2) dirt cheap materials

the box includes a felt sticker that is to be attached to the open base bottom. however, the felt is so flimsy that it just gets pushed through the base. ultimately useless. the shade itself does not secure evenly over the light; since the shade is so thin, the slight unevenness is clearly apparent.

3) poor design

the first two issues could be overlooked if the lamp adequately performed its function. but the geniuses at Lite Source decided to position the bulb socket downward. this means that if you look towards the lamp while you're seated by it, the bulb is fully exposed and damn near blinding. This could have easily be remedied by pointing the socket upwards (so the brightness would be muted by the lamp shade) or by including a gauzy brightness diffuser that would be placed beneath the bulb. but alas this thing is a piece of crap and these are just wishes of a regretful purchaser.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DON'T BUY THIS LAMP.

Lite Source should be ashamed of itself for charging over $150 for this piece of junk.

While it's true, it takes two people to put it together, it goes together easily....especially if you "read" the directions, They could have explained the felt bottom that goes on the base a little better, but over all I am very pleased with the lamp. It looks very "high end" and cost about a third to one quarter of other lamps to get such high design!...Floor switch very convenient. BW

This lamp is absolutely awesome! I wanted something unique that made a bit of a statement on it's own and that's what I got. The colors are vivid and the design is very artsy. It looks a little like a 70's throwback, but it ties in my decor beautifully. The only little thing I would change is to make the harp a little bigger. I am unable to fit a 3way saver bulb in it.

Overall impression: a well-made, attractive lamp.

Details: First, the lampshade panels are NOT made of mica; they're plastic. It's very, very good plastic, and looks a lot like mica, but it's still plastic. It's not quite the same as real mica. (Note: the lampshade frame is made of metal.) Having said that, the lamp is well-made, the glow from the lights thru the shade is an attractive amber glow. The shade is open at the bottom, so it makes a good reading lamp for someone sitting in a chair next to it. The shade sits low enough so that if I am sitting on my sofa across from the lamp, I can't see the lightbulbs. Would be better if the light sockets were 3-way, but a handy guy could probably change those out without much trouble.

All-in-all, I'm happy with it. Looks good, well-made and functional.

I've used a variety of desk lamps in the past, most recently quartz halogen. This provided me with quite a bit of light, but it was also quite hot and the bulb, when it burned out, was not so cheap to replace. This lamp uses three rows of LEDs much cheaper to operate, last much longer (expected life 40,000 hours) as it uses 11 watts and provides several levels of light to use, both in intensity (which is variable with a touch switch) and color temperature (Kelvin). It has an intense white light (6,000 7,000K) for reading and a warmer (4,500 5,500 K) slightly less intense people will prefer one of the other, this unit has them both, plus lower intensity for, say, watching television or merely relaxing. These are all selectable with a reliable and easy to use touch switch system that is also very intuitive and easy to use. "But wait, there's more!" The USB outlet (power only) provides up to 3 more watts to charge your Kindle, Motorola Droid, iWhatever (with the appropriate adapter cord) as well. I purchased 3 foot long USB cords on Amazon (natch!) and now I have two of these lamps on the shelf over our bed we can read in bed, watch TV with lower light, while our Kindles charge.

N.B. This is actually the Diasonic DL-90, so you can also look for that product. The DL-70ISH is similar, but it has a built in iPod / iPhone charger in the base with a small speaker with variable volume. They come with a "wall wart" with replacable plug base that accepts 100 240 volts AC (output 12 VDC) so it is truly global in usability without any voltage transformer as well.

I have to say this is the best lamp I have ever had, and my wife enjoys her. Next stop, another for the desk. It's attractive and stylish as well, but mainly it provides fantastic, easily variable lighting!

This lamp is a little pricey. But the quality and usefulness just blew me away.

This is a fabulous lamp.

Very easy to use ... it has four basic settings and at each one, you can increase or lower the intensity.

I took a chance on it, and was extremely pleased.

My wife liked it and I may have to buy a second one for her ... for a while, I thought she was going to just take this one and then I would have to buy one for myself.

Sorry for being flip, but this is probably the best desk lamp I have ever had.

I wonder if they make a floor model?

My mom is pleasantly surprised as she can read for long periods of time without any eyestrain at all. She thought it was just because she was getting older but the types of light available with this product really do make such a big difference.

Setup is a breeze, you unscrew the bottom and screw it back on with the platform in between and you're ready to go. It twists at the base and then you have the vertical adjustment at the top.

Overall the product is very light but the base is stable.

Really a very nice piece of technology, it was a bit pricey but it's one of those, you get what you pay for, cases.

USB port works for charging iphone and the 1-hour feature is a nice touch. Highly recommended.

I was excited enough about this lamp that I would've thought it impossible to exceed my expectations - but it definitely did. Not only is it totally cool in function - someone finally sat down to figure out what LEDs can do that other bulbs cannot - it's just elegant in its simplicity!

Start with the packaging - very reminiscent of getting a new Mac. Even the box it comes in is so elegantly designed and made that you know right away, serious attention has been paid. Assembly takes about two seconds - another elegant piece of design. [Be aware, though, that the plug comes in two pieces, mysteriously - I spent a bit of time trying to figure out how to make the prongs come out the regulation distance, before I realized that there was one more little piece taped into the carton. Once the light dawned, another two seconds.]

The body of the light is gorgeous in its simplicity - it's made of that good, dense, sleek, Italian-looking plastic, and so slender! I'd say it's not even 2" wide, and maybe a half-inch thick. When you're not using it to make light, it folds shut and becomes a sleek little exclamation point. Its base is maybe 8" square, also slim and sleek, and heavy enough to anchor the light in whatever extended, swiveled position you put it in. The controls are like a tiny iPod angled just above the base. The "on" touch-spot is lit when the light is off, so there's no fumbling to turn it on. The four settings are also effortless, as are the arrow spots that increase or decrease brightness within each setting. There is absolutely nothing else to this lamp - it is an exercise in perfect minimalism.

I use it as a bedside lamp - for ambient light in the bedroom after sundown (nightlight setting, dimmed down), plus reading in bed. I have actually taken to ramping down the brightness of the reading setting, because it's more light than I need. From an LED light - amazing! There are three rows of LEDs on the horizontal arm, two cool, one warm, and they crank out the light like crazy in a nice broad area - this is not a stationary flashlight like my LED desk lamp (circa 2009).

I have the feeling that this is the first LED lighting fixture that is based on what LEDs can do, not just on trying to replicate what incandescents and halogens have been doing. This is not just a perfect lamp to look at and to use, it's like a piece of the future. Even the price, if you think about what a good table lamp can cost, is quite reasonable for the remarkable quality and function. And at maximum brightness, it uses 10 watts. It's wonderful.

I have found many uses for this device.

The light to my tabletop Essex parlour case (I have reviewed this item previously) is plugged into a Sensor Plug in the following sequence: light cord from case to sensor plug, then sensor plug to a short extension cord, then the extension cord into the wall outlet. I positioned the Sensor Plug to lie on the ground just under the Essex case. Whenever the Sensor Plug detects motion, the Essex case lights turn on. That way, anyone approaching the case to view it will have lighting. When there is no one around the case, the case lights turn off. I like this because this keeps the halogen lighting in the case from getting too hot from staying on too long.

I have a small desk fan plugged into another Sensor Plug. The corner of the room where the desk is tends to get a bit warm. Whenever I walk over to the desk to do work, the fan turns on. Shortly after I leave, the fan turns off.

I have another Sensor Plug in the hallway that I have plugged a small table lamp into. When the hallway gets dark, the Sensor Plug will allow the lamp to come on to give illumination. During the day when the hallway has more light, the Sensor Plug does not operate and so the hallway light stays off when it is not needed.

There are settings on the Sensor Plug where you can have the Sensor Plug operate all the time or only when the room gets dark. With the Essex display case and the desk fan, I have the Sensor Plug to operate at all times, but with the hallway light, the Sensor Plug only works in low light conditions.

I only give the Sensor Plug 4 instead of 5 stars for this reason: for a while, it seemed that the sensor plug that the Essex case was plugged into stopped working. I thought that maybe the lights in the case were burned out. Then, somehow, the sensor plug is now working again and turning the case light on and off. I have no idea why.

A solid product as long as there is a significant load on the plug. If you do not have a decent amount of current being drawn, the unit will not turn off. I tried to hook this up to a Drinkwell Pet fountain that is basically a low current pump. The unit turns on, but will not turn off. After reading the "fine print" in the literature included with the device, found the minimal load requirement.

If this is going into a brighter room, as an accent only, it will look fine. I can tell you now though, I wouldn't pay $40 at the urban teenager store for this thing. Well made and a good price. Although it is lined, the light shines through but this is quite an appealing aspect. I would have prefered more slub to the silk but overall, I am very pleased. Pagoda shades in black are almost impossible to source in Australia. ps this is a spider type fitting. To convert the shade to an Australian Standard fitting, use the wire fitting available from the theleadlightworkshop.com.au plus a finial and screw.

I was disappointed that the lampshade was too small at the top for my use. I had guessed that an 18 inch shade would be larger at the top, but the top dimension was not specified.
