ok... i'm really picky... the lamp is perfect as a great light source with killer understated style. the only... and i mean only... thing that took some work was getting the glass bowl turned to the best position. this lamp is great quality. the finish is flawless. i would recommend this lamp to anyone looking for brilliant, unique understated style in a floor lamp. i hope i can see more from this design team or person.

This is an adorable lamp that will look nice in any room. I ordered two for a very large breakfront/china cabinet that contains my collection of blue and white plates, and they look wonderful. They are first quality. The shade is beautiful, but a touch old-fashioned for my taste. I will probably replace them with narrow cone shades in black or white for an updated look. The cone shape looks great on the lamp--at least in Photoshop! The cord is a bit shorter than usual.

Overall a nice lamp for the money, but the picture is a little deceiving. The colors are not accurate. I was expecting a maroon/gold lamp and it's actually brown/olive green. Dark brown. When the lamp is off, it's quite dark (almost black). Lit, it's just fine.

Well, I wish the photo for this item did not look so good, as the lamp in real life

is quite dull (with even light shining through). I am trying to decide to return or not.

The small bulb that should be included is not, and the packaging looks like at

least one person opened this before. Think twice, unless you don't mind a lamp

it was a little bigger than thought to be, it takes up a big part of the table at shade height. base and glass are beautiful but hardware to put together is of poor quality and if not tightened properly will lean bad to the side and be wobbly. i had to take it apart after a few attempts and solder the nut to the bottom side so i could crank down on top acorn nut to secure to my liking. for $140 i would like to have seen something more than two 1/8" threaded rods with a nut on the bottom side and acorn nuts on top to hold it together

I ordered the lam pin based on the picture. The lamp I received is yellow and brown, there is no red anywhere in it. Out of the box, it smells bad, sort of like used motor oil. The "leading" is uneven and looks broken in places. The little light bulb for the base was broken during delivery. If I was this lamp in a store, I might have paid $20 for it. This is not the quality or color that I expected. I am not happy with this purchase.

These are pretty nice lamp shades and I'm satisfied with them for what I paid. Since they are dark, they don't product a whole lot of light, but the lighting is still relaxing. I bought these to replace lamp shapes from a 3-peice lamp set I'd bought years ago (3 table lamps and one tall floor lamp).

We like the colors and style. However we had to take the lamps to a lighting/electrical store to have the pull chain switches installed. So while we are pleased with the product, the advertisement picture should reflect the actual product. Is the a violation in "Truth in Advertising"? We think so.

We have not installed the light yet so don't know about the mechanics. There are no pull cords as shown in the picture. The light is beautiful however even in the box.

Got this light for above my front door in my condo. It does not have the pull chains which is fine with me cause my ceiling is to tall to reach them anyway. It really looks beautiful when lighted up and was not terrible to put up. I did it myself and no issues. It is bigger than i thought it would be but don't care because it really looks great.

I bought this lamp for my son's desk and it pretty much does the job. Couple of things, though: (1) even a 40 watt bulb makes the plastic pretty hot and (2) the switch located on the back that turns the light on and off is very stiff. Half the time, I have to remove the metal cover over the switch to turn the lamp off. But, all in all, I am happy with the purchase. It is pretty heavy-duty and doesn't fall over, which is good.

These lamps were perfect for our application. Any lamp choice comes down to a matter of taste, so here are some facts you need to know:

The pictures represent the lamps accurately.

The lamps worked fine.

They were well packaged and arrived in good condition. In fact, it was kind of a pain to get them out of the box. All the Styrofoam pieces are taped together inside the box, so removing the lamps produced a bunch of static-clingy Styrofoam snow.

Shipping was timely. They were delivered one week after the order was placed.

I just received this yesterday and my 9 year old son really likes it. It is very small, lightweight, and can be clipped to a book or laptop computer or even placed standing-up on a nightstand. There are 2 clips on the unit: The one in the picture slips over a book. There is another one on the back that is spring-loaded and can be pulled out to put the light on a laptop computer.

The telescoping arms don't extend very far (maybe 6-8"), but it is fine for the intended purpose. One great feature is the rotating head. It can rotate 360 degrees so that you can aim the light exactly where it is needed. The beam is wide enough to easily light up a full-size book, even when attached directly to it. The light also has a 3-way on/off switch that cycles between full-on, a bit dimmer, and off. This is nice if the full-on is too bright for you. I think this light is a great bargain at Amazon's price.

I have purchased at least a dozen different book lights in my search for the perfect light for my Kindle. This is it at last! The unit clips securely to the Kindle cover (I have a K1), sheds light over the entire screen without shadows or glare, and is compact for carrying in my purse. Requires 3 AAA batteries, which are easy to replace and last a long time. The light is simple to adjust and I don't have to fight with a floppy gooseneck. This 4-bulb light is not quite as bright as the 5-bulb ritelite with the long flexible neck (also a good light), but it's certainly bright enough for reading my Kindle comfortably. Great buy, one of my favorite purchases recently, and I'm buying more for every Kindle reader in the family.

This is a nice light I got on a amazon special. It works well and does the job, but it could use a more solid construction. I treat it gently and it works fine, but if you rough house with your equipment this might not be your cup of tea. The light is bright but I do wish it could hit both pages of a hardcover book a little better. I find myself adjusting the light a little for each page.

The heft and the sprung laptop clip keep wobble to a minimum. The LED cover and reflector actually do help spread light into an even pool. Design seems solid, with a slight question mark on the battery cover. The laptop clip itself seems as though it should fit most laptops; it fits mine just fine, with some extra room. The "dim" setting seems to be exactly enough light to illuminate keycaps on a laptop without splashing too much light on the screen.

If there's ever a 2xAA-powered version to replace this 3xAAA unit, I'll buy one of those, too: that's the only thing I'd change. (Three AAAs have just about the mAh of a single AA, but have more volume.)

If you're as concerned with battery life as I am, you might consider lithium AAAs rather than alkaline cells.

(11/07/2012) We bought six of these for our Cooperative. We have about 30 posts from 1978 that are in need of replacement. We bought 6 of them to test them out. We received them in less than 3 days in perfect condition. Our Superintendent installed them quickly. We love the additional outlet, which we didn't have the original ones. We plan to put some sort of Christmas lights on them. The outlet is also good for power tools if he is doing work in the area. The cross arm is a nice aesthetic feature as well. We were also looking at the Westinghouse version which is twice the price and only addition is a photovoltaic sensor which we don't need since we have an automatic timer that adjust everyday on its own for changing sunrises and sunsets. Recommend these and believe they are a great value.

Absolutely love this pole. I put one on each side of my driveway. Excellent value. Was shipped very fast. Having an outlet was a bonus and have used outlet for weedeating and even charging a car battery at the end of my driveway!

This item was shipped by a shipping company that had to call me set up a delivery time in which someone needed to be there to receive it. One of the sides is dented in. This is a steel pole, so there had to be some serious abuse to damage it. Also, the cross bar is cheap plastic. You also have to install the electrical outlet yourself.

Update: Sent an email to seller about the item arriving dented. I never received a response.

Excellent! Recommended, if your looking for a table/desk lamp to illumiate your immediate work space, this is the lamp for you. I particularly like that the light focuses on your immediate work space and does not illuminate the entire room. It has a magnifing glass as well as the bright light, making this product great for close work and is perfect any project while seated at a desk/table, i.e., crafting/hobbies --jewelry-making, coin,stamps, small model building, scrap-booking. I am using it at my computer (magnifing and brighting my work) and also as a table lamp by my chair for reading and crocheting (and the light does not disturb others in the room or viewing TV). I'm giving this a 3 star only because of the magnifier portion. It doesn't seem to fulfill my needs so I will be shopping for a magnifying instrument. The Light is GREAT and I will probably be buying another as my spouse and I fight over who will get to use it and where to put it.

I got this OttLite and I LOVE IT! This product is amazing. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference but now it's a lot easier to see a night when I'm crafting. My average desk lamp and home lighting was just killing my eyes so I had to limit my craft hours to day time. And when you work a 9-to-5 that doesn't leave you with very many day light hours especially now that we're in the fall and winter months. But now I can work at night and see with great clarity what I'm doing.

I'd seen OttLites at local fabric and craft retailers but failed to understand what they were all about. I mean, I thought they were just another task lamp and a spendy one at that. I also thought they were for seniors and Boomers. But I was totally wrong on both counts.

At a friend's monthly craft night one of the ladies was using an OttLite and I could see quite clearly the amazing quality of the light. The most important thing to me was that it didn't cause glare and hurt my eyes. Also, the colors looked of my handicrafts looked great when held beneath this light source.

I ended up purchasing this OttLite OTL13MAG Task/Magnifier Lamp with Flip-Down Magnifier in Dove Grey. The assembly directions were probably the lamest thing about this product. They were were worse than an Ikea diagram!

Thank goodness I had seen one already set up and after giving a shout out to its owner she showed me how it was assembled. I didn't know that to turn it off or on all you had to do was close the clamshell light to its base. I honestly don't think I could have figured it out if she hadn't shown me.

Other than that,this product is of very high quality and pretty rugged. I also love that clamshell design because it makes the OttLite very portable.

Also, in addition to doing my crafts with it, I've read it's great for photographing your finished product. I haven't done this yet but if you notice an improvement in the white balance of my photos on Etsy you'll know why!

As of this week local fabric and crafts stores are currently having a sale on the OttLite for 50% off but I've found better deals on Amazon with free shipping. This may all be due to the fact that it's Thanksgiving weekend so on-line retailers maybe competing with brick and mortar storefronts and slashing prices. But it pays to shop around.

Whatever you pay for your OttLite -whether its sale or not -it's totally worth it. This task lamp is probably my number one tool for crafting and art work ever. Seriously.
