My wife who loves to read in bed after I have gone to bed, has tried many, many book lights over the years. The complaints have been many about each one, and pretty much the same. Small circle of light, have to move it from side to side to see good. So last Christmas I went on an internet hunt for the ideal book light. After a few days of research, I decided on this one for her. Now 7 months later she wants me to buy one for our daughter, and a spare for her (in case I lose or break it) cause she says could not live a night without it now. True story. It is bright and evenly covers an area of two pages of a large book without trouble, no hot spots. Seems to be the perfect book light. Battery life is excellent with the LED bulbs.

The company that manufactures this light is called Mighty Bright, and for good reason! The lamp gives off more than enough light to read by in a pitch black room. It has two brightness settings, one with both LEDs and another with just one. The LEDs in this lamp are so bright, that only one is really needed, having two is an added bonus. I'm not using a power adatpter, I'm running off of 3 AAA batteries. LEDs use such a small amount of power, those batteries should last me a year or more. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this light. With such a fair price I didn't think it would really hold up, but I'm definitely going to recommend it.

I have to say that the Might Bright XtraFlex 2 is a wondefully bright light. If I position it correctly, it easily lights both pages for comfortable reading. It's so easy to adjust that there is never a problem getting the light where you want it. The price is great!

The problem arises when you turn the page or shift your own position. This light has a clip that does not secure well to the book. No matter how many pages you clip it to, it will swivel around and tip to the side. I get weary of righting it time and again. The clip is too bulky and I found myself missing the Itty Bitty Booklight that slips so nicely onto a back hard cover or a few pages of a soft cover, and then stays put. That is the only problem, but it's a substantial one when you're trying to read, thus the 3 stars. Right now, I'm hoping for a merger of the Itty Bitty and Might Bright. Perfect light and perfect clip!

I bought three of these in blue (a spare for me and one for my brother) after thoroughly reading all of the comments on competitive brands. I found the comments praising this model to be right on the mark. When I read it lit up both pages at the same time using dual lights where all other brands required constant repositioning for each page, that was all I needed to know this was the best reading light for me.

I can't say enough nice things about this product. It has dual lights on a flex shaft which you can position to fully illuminate both pages of a large hardback book. You wont need to keep moving the light around to light your pages with this one and the pages ar well lit for easy reading in the dark. But the light is centralized on the book and not the surrounding area so others can sleep while you read.

You can also switch from dual lights to a single light. The flexible shaft on the light is sturdy and stable enough to firmly hold its position over the book even while you move around and turn pages. You can either clip it on the cover or use the clip to hold open the pages. It operates on AAA batteries. The higher quality battery, the longer it lasts. I use the Duracell ultra digital batteries with the blue band.

I cannot think of any negatives about this product. I'm not associated with any seller. I am just a customer who was happy to find a great product. Definitely a good buy.

I have purchased MANY book lights in the past, but never have I owned one that was actually bright enough to read by. I usually keep moving the light around and around and around so I can see the page . I ordered the power adapter but it hasn't arrived yet, I am using 3 AAA batteries and this is a awesome light. It has 2 lights in the head you can use both or just one, the light spreads across both pages of a paperback in either mode one light or two, I haven't tried a hard cover book yet, but I really don't think this light will have any problem at all. Very Very Bright. I definitely recommend this light .

I ordered 2 of these and I really like the appearance of them. The only issue is the description gives the impression you can use a 50-100-150 bulb. This is not the case, it is a single switch. Where I was placiing them I needed variable lighting. So my husband switched out the sockets to 3 way (there are videos on the Internet that show how easy this is to do) and I am happy with the purchase.

The idea of this lamp is good, and the compact size and flexiblity are good. Despite the description, however it is not close to "superbright." In late-afternoon daylight the light was noticeable but dim. Also, the magnet in the base becomes unglued almost immediately, leaving the magnet behind when you try to move the lamp. One of the two I ordered came with the magnet missing altogether.

When I found the box by my front door, it was a mess. The end was torn open, and there was another big tear in the box along the side. The post itself had a couple of small dents, but nothing bad enough that I thought it was worth shipping back.

The post is of decent quality, but not great. The steel is of marginal thickness, but will hopefully hold up well as long as you don't bump it too hard with your mower, or have kids swinging from it. The cross bar is made of plastic and looks cheap up close. But from a distance it looks fine.

I applied some additional spray paint to lower portion that was to be buried in concrete, to give it a little more corrosion protection. So far, it is working out fine for me.

We ordered 2 of these lamps, the shipping speed and shipping packaging were very good. We set up and plugged in the first lamp and it worked as advertised. It is a very nice lamp.

We opened the package for the second lamp and one of the glass panels that goes in the lampshade was shattered....returned it to Amazon and asked for a replacement. Amazon sent it with one day shiping. We set up replacement #1, plugged it in, tested it, everything worked fine.....not exactly. After it was plugged in for about 5 minutes, we realized it was posessed because it started turning itself on and off rapidly. We unplugged it a couple of times, moved it to different location.....still had a life of it's own......So we returned it and asked for another replacement.

We received the same excellent replacement service for replacement #2, opened the box, inspected, and found one of the wires that hold a glass panel on the shade is broken. We have given up and have returned the lamp and asked for a refund. We really like the look and operation of the first lamp , but figured having two of them was not meant to be!

I thought it would be a little bigger, and I didn't realize assembly was required. If choosing again I might select a different model. However (where IS the comma on this Kindle Fire?) We like it well enough that we bought its mate for the other nightstand. For a lamp you may need in the middle of the night the "touch" feature is highly recommended.

Edit: I bought this item twice, once thru Amazon.com and once thru PERFECT HOME STATION. The latter vendor offended me by emailing me four times and phonlng me once, to try to get me to change my seller feedback, offering me 10% back as an incentive. I had rated them 3 out of 5 stars and left comment "Acceptable service" but their delivery was in fact a little slow (but acceptable). Do not patronize this vendor! I was particularly angry that they used my phone number, not to ensure better service but to try to bribe me for a better rating. I don't think that's an approved use in Amazon's Terms of Service or privacy policy!

I bought this for my Mother who is elderly and has arthritis that has caused her fingers to become deformed. She loves that she can just touch the base of the lamp with her knuckle to turn it on and off since it is very diffucult for her to turn the small knobs of regular lamps. The lamp has three intensity settings, with the brightest at 40 watts. She also likes the look of the lamp, she has it placed on the end table by her chair. In the near future I will buy her a lamp that can accomodate a brighter wattage so that she may read or do whatever, then she can place this lamp on her nightstand.

I bought this to replace a vintage Acme task lamp that had been in the family for almost 4 decades.

The arm and housing are solid and the clamp works fine. The supplied bulbs are bright. The bulbs flicker quite a bit before they get warmed up enough to stay on. It's bad enough that it might cause seizures if you're prone to that. The arm stays where it's put but the light cover is hard to position.

Within about a month the lamp started giving off a loud buzzing noise. When I looked I noticed the starters and ballast are cheap Chinese crap. I'll likely have to replace them to make the noise go away and to give the lamp a longer lifespan. Even with the replacement parts it may be cheaper than a high-end lamp but I'm still disappointed.

This recent production version of this vintage lamp hasn't changed since the 1950s and that's a good thing. Everything is solid metal except for two minor adjustment knobs and they are strong enough. I've had it since March 2011 and it works fine. I enjoy that short little flicker when it fires up! Note the huge ballast box on the arm; just like the good old days. The mounting clamp is solid metal with a hefty threaded tightening screw. This baby is heavy so attach it to smething substantial. You won't find anything this robust anywhere today. The only beef I have is that it arrived with cheap bulbs, one of which was dead. You're gonna want to swap them out for some good quality bulbs anyway to make this baby really shine (no pun intended.) Not enough to keep me from giving it five stars.

Before I buy anything, I usually peruse the web and see what there is out there. I was putting together a new workstation for my studio and needed a really good fluorescent lamp. Most everything that I found was made out of plastic and that was just not going in my studio. Finally, I typed in metal drafting lamps and presto....the Alvin Task Light came up. I have had metal drafting lamps for years and had just about given up thinking that they had gone the way of the dinosaur. The lamp is great with two fluorescent bulbs that turn on with a switch on top of the lamp. The clamp is rugged and since installation, has not even needed to be tightened again. There is an adjustable angle setting on the light head and the arm can also be raised or lowered and so far has stayed right where I have needed it. Good job Alvin and thanks again for a job well done Amazon. Great lamp for the office or studio.

If you don't mind the light fleecing constantly I would buy this product. I couldn't stand it so I called the company and five days since the call, no answer. I sent an email same time, no answer. I finally fixed the problem myself. The lamp is made in China and that should be all you need to know about the quality, it sucks... In fact one bulb was 3/16 longer then the other bulb but that didn't stop them from forcing it in the socket and screwing up the operation of the lamp.

Other then the blinking (which can drive you crazy) the lamp is good. I'm not totally against products from China but, their quality sucks. The solution was so simple it stupid. Once I get a reply from the company (Alvin Products) i'll reveal the secret solution, until then don't buy the product.

This product looks very nice in our new home. We have the whole granite counter tops, hard wood floors, perfect ambiance lighting, etc. Our walls are painted a dark forest green color, and this lamp just fits perfectly with the house! It's very heavy and durable too. It's not some cheap plastic lamp. Not sure what the base is made out of, but it's heavy.

I took 1 star off because I would never pay this much for a lamp, at least what Amazon is asking for. I found a company selling a "used" one here on Amazon for literally 70% off. Without that discount, I never would have bought it.

I just received this yesterday and my 9 year old son really likes it. It is very small, lightweight, and can be clipped to a book or laptop computer or even placed standing-up on a nightstand. There are 2 clips on the unit: The one in the picture slips over a book. There is another one on the back that is spring-loaded and can be pulled out to put the light on a laptop computer.

The telescoping arms don't extend very far (maybe 6-8"), but it is fine for the intended purpose. One great feature is the rotating head. It can rotate 360 degrees so that you can aim the light exactly where it is needed. The beam is wide enough to easily light up a full-size book, even when attached directly to it. The light also has a 3-way on/off switch that cycles between full-on, a bit dimmer, and off. This is nice if the full-on is too bright for you. I think this light is a great bargain at Amazon's price.

I have purchased at least a dozen different book lights in my search for the perfect light for my Kindle. This is it at last! The unit clips securely to the Kindle cover (I have a K1), sheds light over the entire screen without shadows or glare, and is compact for carrying in my purse. Requires 3 AAA batteries, which are easy to replace and last a long time. The light is simple to adjust and I don't have to fight with a floppy gooseneck. This 4-bulb light is not quite as bright as the 5-bulb ritelite with the long flexible neck (also a good light), but it's certainly bright enough for reading my Kindle comfortably. Great buy, one of my favorite purchases recently, and I'm buying more for every Kindle reader in the family.

This is a nice light I got on a amazon special. It works well and does the job, but it could use a more solid construction. I treat it gently and it works fine, but if you rough house with your equipment this might not be your cup of tea. The light is bright but I do wish it could hit both pages of a hardcover book a little better. I find myself adjusting the light a little for each page.

The heft and the sprung laptop clip keep wobble to a minimum. The LED cover and reflector actually do help spread light into an even pool. Design seems solid, with a slight question mark on the battery cover. The laptop clip itself seems as though it should fit most laptops; it fits mine just fine, with some extra room. The "dim" setting seems to be exactly enough light to illuminate keycaps on a laptop without splashing too much light on the screen.

If there's ever a 2xAA-powered version to replace this 3xAAA unit, I'll buy one of those, too: that's the only thing I'd change. (Three AAAs have just about the mAh of a single AA, but have more volume.)

If you're as concerned with battery life as I am, you might consider lithium AAAs rather than alkaline cells.

This is a cute lamp but not of the best quality. However, since we're just decorating our 3-yo's room, it will suffice for the next couple of years. The lamp shade is just hard cardboard with blue tape on top & bottom and the train is pretty straight forward, as pictured. The shipping; however, took longer than expected (and published), which I didn't appreciate because this was the last item I was waiting on for our son's "train" room, and it took a week longer than anything else we ordered on Amazon.

The base of the lamp is super cute. I love it. The shade on the other hand? A complete disaster. It's basically a paper shade with a ribbon glued on the bottom which was already frayed and fell off by the time it arrived to me. This lamp is not cheap and I am so dissapointed that the seller would be ok with actually sending a shade as cheap as this. Had i been able to find anything else that I liked for my son's room, I would have returned this in a heartbeat. How disappointing.
