Nothing bad to say about this lamp at all. Does the job it's supposed to do, turns on and gives off light. The neck is flexible, but I don't use that feature all that much. Very good quality.

The power in my house goes out on a regular basis, so I finally figured out that maybe getting a book light or two would be a worthwhile investment. After reading the reviews, I decided to get both a Great Point Light-Flex-Neck and a Multi Flex from Fulcrum. Each has its pluses and minuses and which one is better for you depends on what you want to use it for.

The Fulcrum light is brighter than the Great Point and covers a larger area. The switch is also much easier to use since it slides. On the Great Point, the top presses down and it's hard to get it to stay on. Sometimes it switches off for no apparent reason. It's either a poor design or I got a defective unit. The Fulcrum also takes 3 AAA batteries, which fit into the base, making it both heavier (about 2 1/2 ounces compared to about 1 1/2 ounces for the Great Point) and as a result making the clip a lot bulkier as well. The Great takes lithium batteries, much lighter, but also harder to find.

The Fulcrum is too heavy and too bulky to make it easy to attach to a paperback, and if you want to attach it to any book and hold the book up to read, it gets heavy very quickly. Its brighter light and greater weight and area make it a good choice for when you want to set a larger and heavier book on a table or for attaching to a very sturdy and prominent back rest, plus the easy availability of AAA batteries means you probably have a spare set around when the ones in the Fulcrum run out or at least you can grab replacements at the grocery store. The Great Point is better if you want to attach it to a book you are holding up to read, or to a paperback, or for when you want a little less light so as not to disturb a partner in bed. In any event, since they are both better than reading by candlelight both suit my needs, but one or the other is probably going to be better for most people depending on what you want. Or spring for both so you always have a spare. At this price, you could just about afford one for every room.

I have gone through about ten book lights, and I think I like this one the best. My previous one was the type that clipped to the spine of the book, which I was not crazy about, but it did shine a better white light on a larger portion of the page then all my previous lights. Then it disappeared one day. I am sure I will find it months from now in the bottom of one of the kids toy boxes.

So I needed a new light and looked to Amazon. I found this one that had some pretty decent reviews, so I bought it. I am glad I did. The lightweight body clips to the back cover of the book ( or to a bunch of pages on a soft cover book ) the flexible gooseneck is very thin, but holds its position well. The LEDs give off a bright, white light that easily covers both pages fully on even a large hardcover book. No more dark corners to contend with. The base is small ( holds three AAA batteries ) but large enough to sit flat on the base if I do not want to clip it to the book.

Overall its a good book light that I am happy with.

***update 2/14/2010*** This book light has functioned flawlessly for over 2 1/2 years of almost daily use. I just had my first problem with it. The light started flickering and I would have to tap the head (part with the light) to get it working again. It happened for three or four nights in a row. I was seriously upset because this is my favorite book light and I really did not want to have to replace it, and this thing has seen some serious book time.

Well I looked at the head and there is one small screw on it. So I laid it out flat on the table, removed the screw, then took the cover off. There is a small metal slide and I figured the bent piece was not making contact, so I bent it just slightly, and it works again. I did that 1 minute repair three weeks ago and everything is working great. I look forward to another 2 1/2 years of service on this great little book light.

I found this item awhile ago at another vendor for twice the price. Even at the higher price it was worth it! I've had many book lights over the years and this one is THE best I've ever used. I first bought one for using at home for reading and quickly returned to buy another for my office. It is great for travel or in the library to supplement low or uneven lighting and it makes a wonderful gift! The soft rubber pad on the base and the gentle-but-firm tension in the clip allows it to be attached instantly to the edge of a book, a music stand, or a clipboard without leaving marks when removed. One of the nicer features is that, unlike many other book lights, it can stand easily on its own on a flat surface. The light beam from this tiny lamp is powerful illuminating a whole page rather than just a small portion. The flexible gooseneck allows the beam to be adjusted easily. Battery life is extraordinary. Using the lamp daily for hours at a time, the beam stayed strong and steady for over 4-5 months. The design and capability of this tiny lamp is just about perfect! This book light is very bright, but unfortunately, not well made. After just a few days of light use the "neck" on my light will not stay in place. It is loose and just falls on top of the page I am reading. I would not recommend this product unless an improvement is made.

The dark bronze is darker than the photo looks and is a decent match for restoration hardware's version of bronze. Lamp looks more expensive than it was. Fairly heavy. Shade is a little big for the size of the lamp by just a bit, but still ok. Lamp has high and low settings but works with a fluorescent bulb anyway. Pleased

Well I at first was hesitant being the first reviewer at the time. I bought these for my own bday girft to myself. I realize now there are blue ones in the market too of the same brand.

The first night these were on, one only lasted an hour. And the other didn't turn on at all. That was my mistake it is hard to tell when the button is on or off for charging. The second night they lasted about 2.5 hours into the night and I adjusted them the next day do to my location with the sun. The instructions say a 45 degree angle to the sun. But I would recommend pointing them right into the sun for optimal charge. I also recently to make them last longer have shut them off after the sun went down and am allowing them to build a full charge to maximize the batteries potential. 3 days in a row without letting them glow at night and they should start holding a better charge. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times and they should stay on for about 5 or 6 hours. If you don't want them on that long, just maintain them right out of the box and they should do fine.

The cons are that the batteries in these are not replaceable. And they don't charge at all by in home lighting so not even your house lights will make them turn off.

I have one in a planter with a house plant in my living room and one on the plant shelf in my kitchen. They provide nice ambient lighting in the evening and into the night if I get up. I was worried at first about them being glass but the little holders are rather stable considering.

I would recommend this product to customers who understand solar lighting and that they are not always perfect in weather conditions. If this is your first solar buy, please consider the science behind solar before rating a poor review.

It was love at first sight! And until I finally purchased the orange lamp, it followed me around from site to site on the web--you know how Amazon, among others, makes that happen. We were planning on moving to a brand new place soon, and we needed to renew our furnishings. I had already purchased the parsons chairs for the dining room and orange was among the shades of brown on those. I would get some shade of brown for the living room and the room would cry out for the orange lamp. I ordered this lamp after searching for additional lighting for a bedroom table. I wanted something plain and clean looking, a little neutral, a little modern, and a little classic. While this lamp was not my first choice, it does fulfill all those requirements. I didn't expect the quality to be very high but the base has a very nice weight to it and the gloss enamel looks very nice. I'm not crazy about the shadeit seems just a bit cheaper than the base, and is a brighter shade of white. It is also ENORMOUS and the lamp needs to be placed on a slightly higher surface or across a room because if you spend a lot of time close to it, i.e. as a desk or table lamp, it really seems huge. That said, I'm happy enough with it and may try to find a new shade for it at some point but the base is great.

The antique brass is pretty, but the light itself is a very strange washed out color (not at all like the nice clear light color you get in other 'reveal' or full spectrum type bulbs. We kept it, though, because it looked nice in our room. It was functioning just fine for a couple of months, and my husband said the light was good to read by. The problem: after having this product just a couple of months, the stand seems to have broken. It no longer stays screwed securely to the base. Instead it leans over and no amount of taping or puttying by my husband can get it to stand straight again. I would not recommend this product at all.

I was pleased with the heavy weight of the lamp. Its base is very heavy. The overall finish was very good. The on/off switch is a rotary knob by the light socket. It is a couple inches long and was bent slightly on arrival, although not enough to be concerned about. I wanted to order a couple of replacement bulbs with the lamp. I called the Amazon help phone number 1-866-876-8073 which was listed on the product page. (It's no longer listed there.) The Amazon representative went to extraordinary lengths to find out what type of bulb the lamp used. The next day he called back with the information. Unfortunately the information was incorrect. When I received the lamp I found it takes a 27w screw in daylight bulb. It's listed as a TEL-27 27w 6400k 120v 60hz 310ma nondimmable bulb. The base is a standard screw in base like the old fashioned incandescent bulbs. The glass part of the bulb has several u-shaped loops of white florescent glass. The total length of the bulb is about 6.5-6.75 inches. It has a nice bright daylight light. It was brighter than I expected it to be. It is similar to the bulb listed here: (...) Amazon lists it as a 3U 27w QVC Tensor Lamp Replacement Bulb by Full Spectrum Solutions.

The bulb listed above is expensive, but it appears a normal compact florescent screw in base bulb would work.

The lamp itself is adjustable in height. The shade slides over another circular sleeve that covers the bulb base. The shade can rotate to any angle needed.

Very good lamp for your money. Comes wih a fluorescent bulb that saves electricity. You can tilt the shade how you want it using the band right next to the shade (the band doesn't heat up at all, so tilting it isn't painful, unlike some cheapo lamps) and adjust the height of the stand. When all the way up it's 51". I use it as a floor lamp next to the computer, often the only light in a dark room at night. It would also be an excellent reading lamp. Also, I like the weight (medium) and look (dull gold color with a nice antique finish, and has the style of an old-fashioned office lamp). It's a quality piece for a budget cost. We've been using it for 2 weeks without a problem and assembly was easy as pie. The only catch is that it's more of an office or study look than a living room look, but it would even work in a modern living room.

Great reading lamp, this. It assembles in a flash. Its heavy base ensures it's unlikely ever to get knocked over. Comes with a 27-watt full-spectrum bulb with an estimated 10,000-hour life. A quick turn of the screw brings the lamp down to the much lower than normal height that a reader in a low-slung lounge chair like my Le Corbusier knockoff needs; it swivels on its base and its metal shade easily angles to focus the light just where you want it. Would be a good choice for anyone who reads, studies or works in a bed or chaise. If only it had been available in black or gray metal, either of which would suit my décor far better than brass, this would have been a five-star review.

Update 12/5/2011: Re the replacement bulb problem:

The bulb that came with this lamp died in the middle of reading a whodunit a couple of nights ago. After the many comments in these reviews about the replacement bulb being offered on this page not fitting the lamp and the near impossibility of finding a replacement bulb that does fit, I was more than somewhat amazed to discover that the 13 watt GE Energy Smart spiral CFL bulbs I'd picked up at the supermarket recently to use in incandescent sockets elsewhere in the house fit this lamp perfectly and suit me just fine for reading. Then today I found a 26 watt CFL soft light mini spiral bulb from SATCO at my hardware store with a projected life of 12000 hours for under $9 that also fits this lamp and works well for reading. Several similar looking bulbs to these two are offered on Amazon, but most don't tell you if they have the "medium base" which this lamp requires, although some look as if they do.

Solid finish lamp for an incredible deal. I was looking for a floor lamp that I could use for night reading. Great light and it will be very difficult to find a lamp, of this quality, for this price. Very stable lamp. Only negative is that you may want to double check your height requirements, since it's not a super tall lamp. Again this worked very well for me.

OK I want to be perfectly clear. The one star rating is only due to the sub standard condition the WIRING on my oder came with. When I first unboxed the lamp and set it up, it would not turn on. I tried a few bulbs before I realised there was "ticking" coming from the inline switch on the cable, indicating to me something was loose. I grabbed my circuit tester and some tools, and moments later found that the switch had been improperly wired, and was barely connected at ALL, with one portion of bar wire loose and capable of touchingthe metal screw spindle that holds the switch together. Had there been a fire or electrocution, I may not have been as reasonable with this review as I plan to be.

After reinstalling the switch onto the cable in a manner consistent with its design, I find this lamp to be quite delightful, and perfect for an ambient bedroom light. It is appealing to look at, and small enough to be unobtrusive. I plan on buying more, but I will examine the switching on each one prior to "installation". Maybe mine was a one off accident, but I'm not taking chances.

It's so cool to enter what you want in your search engine, and then voila -there it is! I entered 'matchstick bamboo lamp', because that's what I wanted to create subdued lighting in two areas of my bedroom. They go great with my Asian theme but they could be used in any contemporary scheme. Bamboo is such a great renewable resource. Be sure to use no greater than 40 watt bulbs; anything higher gets blown.

The lamps are not expensive but do not look cheap. I ordered two of these for the narrow sofa table/board which fits against the wall. These are perfect accent lights ( take a 25W bulb) on either end of the table, and the wicker goes with our wicker woven seat on a black bench used for a side table and the woven seats on the counter stools. Even though we live on Cape Cod, our decor is not real "beachy" , but just casually traditional.

I bought because it looked nicer than the typical, metal-or-70s-style mood lighting lamps. And because it was cheap.

This lamp looks great in person and does a good job of acting as a spotlight for the curio cabinet on which I've placed it. I love that it fits in with the decor of my apartment and really looks elegant and more expensive than it actually was. Great product that still works!

I typically hate lamps as I am just not a 'lampshade' person. However, I needed something really classy for my new house. These were an absolute 'find' and I love them to bits. They are just so beatutiful to look at.

Incredibly well built, these are heavy lamps. There is a small amount of assembly required, but only took 5 mins. It took longer to unpack all the parts, as everything was so well protected.

Ordering another one today for the dining room.

I researched hundreds of lamps in my budget before selecting this "used like new," and it did not disappoint. Came quickly, was well protected and in excellent condition. The promise of "like new " was upheld. I love the color and glaze and the base. I love the shade also, but I misjudged how it would work; unfortunately it looks too large in the location so I've put it in the attic and am using a different shade. Wish it were 3-way. Maybe I'll add a dimmer? All in all I'm very pleased.

The size is compact and light which is not necessarily a bad thing but the light does not cover much of a working area on my desk. Do not buy it. I didn't return it because I didn't want to wait and shop for another one online. Next time I just go to the store.
