Nice bright and focused light.

The clamp will work on anything up tp about 1" thick...and it's "bite" is about 1 1/2" deep...with some little suction cups on each side.

I expected the flexible stem to be longer like the Jansjo LED lamps with a base (own 2 and love them). The stem is about 12" long on these (from base to bottom of bulb casing). Still very useful and handy.

The style of this lamp is great! Easy to direct light to area in need. The glare on apple screen is too great with the wider light range of most lamps; causing eye strain. The cord is long and easily flexible; as is the clip. As others have mentioned, the switch is a problem, have to jiggle it sometimes to engage light. JansJo should fix this part of the design and charge a few more bucks if that what it takes to make it a better product. The size and flexibility of this lamp make it perfect for the smaller home. If the switch weren't a problem this lamp would rate a 5 star.

I am very satisfied with this lamp. It has two settings: half and full bright, which was a nice surprise to me. I use half bright for when need some ambient light, and full brihtness for reading. The on/off switch is inline with the map cord about mid way down. It's a real pain to turn on or off whene it's hanging behind the desk. Light is dimmer than I expected.

Wow I love this light. It has a very pleasant dimmer light that I use most of the time and 'wow' the bright light is really bright when you need it. The switch on the cord is no problem for me. I love the light this lamp gives off. I love how it looks and works. I highly recommend it. I am currently using one of these on my desk and one on table by my bed. I ordered two of them. They adjust easily. The neck bends easily and holds right where you set it. This is an exceptionally nice lamp.

This is the second time I have purchased a pair of these lamps to light up an "exhibit" temporarily and they wok great. Easy to assemble, good flex in the goose-neck and stays where you put it. Bulb puts out lots of heat and head get very hot, but that is to be expected. Excellent light output.

For the low price I paid for this lamp, it's hard to complain. The plastic that makes up the stand/base itself seems to be a little bit flimsy, but it would do if you had to use it. I personally just took the liquid-filled glass piece out and put it into the old lava lamp I already had (it's the same brand, so it fits perfectly). The wax in my old lamp had turned bad, and the liquid was cloudy -and this was a great replacement. The liquid for this new one is crystal clear, and when the wax heated up, it had plenty of 'action' and bubbling, as I'd hoped. The product was also shipped very quickly, and it was packaged securely in a bigger box, so damage was unlikely. Overall, a great find for the price!

This a circular wick, center draft, mantle lamp and is considerably different than the flat-wick lamps most people are familiar with.

I've had mine a few years and mostly use it as a 5,000 BTU space heater whenever my regular 10,000 BTU kero heaters are overkill. The mantles are expensive and even with careful use fall apart after a couple of weeks so I cut out a small disk of catalytic screen from Mannings kero heater website, pressed it in my palm until convex shaped and wired it (24ga.) into an old mantle frame and have used that for years. It glows orange and helps get all the kerosene vapor reacted with oxygen for a clean burn just like a mantle would. (I've since learned that the mantles I have are of poor quality/improper manufacture and well made ones last much longer.)

Every week or two the wick gets carboned-up and burns poorly so I have to disassemble the lamp and trim it with a special tool that makes a mess of soot and ash to clean up and after 6 to 8 such trimmings the the wick gets too short and needs replaced at over $10 ea. If only they'd use fiberglass-topped wicks like kerosene heaters it would be a vast improvement. The mantles you need to remove and replace often are fragile and expensive (formerly $6.50/ea. and now in early 2010 unavailable-(ebay $20/ea.)-due to more production problems) and the thin chimney glass is fragile. Also the rolled seam near the top of the fuel tank leaked until I sealed it with leftover 'redkote' tank coating so I couldn't fill it the whole way at first. A second lamp I bought didn't have that problem.

You need to be very careful during startup, removing and replacing that fragile mantle/chimney assembly and raising the wick gradually to keep from sooting up the chimney. It is very bright though, about like a 60 watt incandescent bulb, and throws off a lot of heat with absolutely no odor (I've used it to heat my 8'x8' dome tent when winter camping 16F to 55F).

I started using old 1.75 liter plastic liquor bottles with a plug-in pour spout for refilling the lamp while it's still burning(ingenious;"pat-pat"). When the tank's full the spout's vent hole plugs and kero stops flowing so it's even better than a funnel, no chance of overfilling, but I have to shield it from the lantern's heat or the plastic melts.

Compared to kerosene pressure lanterns the aladdin is turning out to be preferable due to it's silent operation, no pumping, and in-use 'refillability'; but looses points for its expensive wicks and mantles.(And fragile chimneys another cracked while I carefully washed it; I think that's four now.)

I purchased (and returned this lamp). The photo looks great and I would have been very happy if the lamp actually was as shown. However, there were so many things wrong:

The socket (which you have to insert) that attaches to base, when screwed on, does not face the base squarely so the shade sits askew.

There were many scratches in the bronze finish.

The inside of the lamp base (which is visible) and all the exposed edges of the cutwork design were not finished with the bronzing so it looked undone.

There is a large silver nut/bolt that attaches the socket to the base inside, but because of the openwork design, the nut is very visible (and ugly).

The electric cord runs through the base, and is visible through the cutwork.

All in all, very poorly made.

Beautiful lamp, but after we set it up and threw away the packagaing we noticed the base of the lamp was chipped in several places and the shade was dented in several places. I used a "matching" permanent marker to hide the chips in the base and am just living with the dents in the the shade. Very disappointing...this never happened with anything I ever ordered from Amazon. Yes, I could have returned it, but needed the lamp immediately for the Holidays and had nothing to pack it in to return it.

This is a low cost desk lamp that gives you plenty of light, a flexible goose neck, energy efficiency, and a good price. The construction and appearance are nothing elaborate, but appropriate for the price. I give it five stars as a desk lamp in that price range.

It uses a GU24 bulb, which has a special base. Thus, you cannot easily substitute another bulb. A replacement bulb can cost $7-$10 on Amazon, which you might view as a negative. Or you might view it as a positive, since the lamp was a mere $4.74 more than the included bulb alone. The bulb gives you plenty of light, but not plenty of heat.

If you are looking for a lamp that uses this bulb anyway, then it boils down to style vs function. It is rather plain looking, but using it is truly illuminating.

The first time I received the lamp, the bulb was shattered. (the bulb has mercury, by the by) so I returned it (super easy with Amazon) and received another. Again, a shattered bulb. This time, I just asked for the refund.

The lamp is nothing particularly special-just a black clip lamp with a knob at the back to turn it on.

Things that could be improved:

I wish the neck would hold better. This was my main reason in purchasing this lamp; I wanted a lamp that I could adjust and have the lamp stay in the position I had adjusted it to. However, in certain positions, this lamp 'slumps' and droops. It does not hold as well as I would like. I need to lean the neck against something to support it in some positions.

The clip is not padded. It's doing some minor damage to my headboard as a result.

Overall, it serves its purpose.

They do bill it as a clip-on table lamp, but I wanted a flexi lamp to attach to headboards of bunk bed set. These are durable and actually pretty good, but only if you are using on the side of a desk as they mentioned. The goosenecks are not sturdy enough to hold the lamps firmly in place so they sag when they are clamped to a headboard and the neck is horizontal.

Again, not so bad for normal use but as others have noted, the neck does not hold firm. My bad.

I bought this nice little lamp as a replacement for my previously broken clip-lamp.

This lamp serves the job as a lamp thus far and seems to be of somewhat sturdy build. "Somewhat sturdy" means it won't fall apart by itself in a week but it isn't strong enough to be taking drops or other abuse (but then again, what lamp is?). The clamp/clip is fairly strong, I'm currently hanging my lamp sideways (on a shelf) and it doesn't seem to be slipping at all.

My only complaint is the neck strength. The neck won't stay perfectly straight when i hang it sideways. It droops down an inch or so towards the table but not anymore. It is strong enough to not totally fall over when hung sideways but it isn't the strongest. I also wish the hood (the part that covers the lightbulb) was a little longer because my fluorescent lightbulb sticks out slightly past the frame (not too much of a problem though).

This lamp arrived today well packaged and easy to assemble. The light is indeed natural and

very white which is exactly what I wanted. I made the purchase because the price is reasonable,

and I wanted a floor lamp that I could adjust and read with. The base of this lamp is solid

and well constructed and the neck is easily adjustable. Note that the height is about 3 to 4 feet,

or stands about 2 feet above your chair or table but this is perfect if you are sitting down

in a lounge chair and adjust lamp over book. With this lamp I no longer am squinting in yellowish

light.

Very happy about the purchase and price. Although this is only the first day of my purchase. The wattage

on the bulb also is energy efficient 27w and seems to put out the light of a 60w (but more focused).

I would recommend this product.

A bit confusing to put together (I am challenged in the mechanical sense), however packaged well and arrived on time. The reading light gives off a bit of a different glow not at all like normal light bulbs, however once you get used to it well it's fabulous! I can read for hours and my eyes don't get tired.

I just received this yesterday and my 9 year old son really likes it. It is very small, lightweight, and can be clipped to a book or laptop computer or even placed standing-up on a nightstand. There are 2 clips on the unit: The one in the picture slips over a book. There is another one on the back that is spring-loaded and can be pulled out to put the light on a laptop computer.

The telescoping arms don't extend very far (maybe 6-8"), but it is fine for the intended purpose. One great feature is the rotating head. It can rotate 360 degrees so that you can aim the light exactly where it is needed. The beam is wide enough to easily light up a full-size book, even when attached directly to it. The light also has a 3-way on/off switch that cycles between full-on, a bit dimmer, and off. This is nice if the full-on is too bright for you. I think this light is a great bargain at Amazon's price.

I have purchased at least a dozen different book lights in my search for the perfect light for my Kindle. This is it at last! The unit clips securely to the Kindle cover (I have a K1), sheds light over the entire screen without shadows or glare, and is compact for carrying in my purse. Requires 3 AAA batteries, which are easy to replace and last a long time. The light is simple to adjust and I don't have to fight with a floppy gooseneck. This 4-bulb light is not quite as bright as the 5-bulb ritelite with the long flexible neck (also a good light), but it's certainly bright enough for reading my Kindle comfortably. Great buy, one of my favorite purchases recently, and I'm buying more for every Kindle reader in the family.

This is a nice light I got on a amazon special. It works well and does the job, but it could use a more solid construction. I treat it gently and it works fine, but if you rough house with your equipment this might not be your cup of tea. The light is bright but I do wish it could hit both pages of a hardcover book a little better. I find myself adjusting the light a little for each page.

The heft and the sprung laptop clip keep wobble to a minimum. The LED cover and reflector actually do help spread light into an even pool. Design seems solid, with a slight question mark on the battery cover. The laptop clip itself seems as though it should fit most laptops; it fits mine just fine, with some extra room. The "dim" setting seems to be exactly enough light to illuminate keycaps on a laptop without splashing too much light on the screen.

If there's ever a 2xAA-powered version to replace this 3xAAA unit, I'll buy one of those, too: that's the only thing I'd change. (Three AAAs have just about the mAh of a single AA, but have more volume.)

If you're as concerned with battery life as I am, you might consider lithium AAAs rather than alkaline cells.
