UPDATE on January 28th, 2012: Please make sure you get the correct replacement bulbs. I had a scare when it was brought to my attention that the lamp did not take 25 watts, but 15. You can use 15 watts, but the lamp does take 25 watt candelabra bulbs, this is according to the manufacturer tag that is on the basket lamp cord. Please see the photo gallery as I took a picture of the tag on the basket lamp. Thank you!

This lamp was one of my husband's birthday gifts. I was searching for something, well---way out there. A funky, novelty gift---something he had never seen before.

I wasn't, however, prepared for the high quality of this lamp. It blew us both away! This is NOT a small lamp; it is heavy, well constructed, and it has presence. It would not be missed, in any room. Once we arranged the salt crystals to our liking, and flipped on the switch, we both simultaneously let out a BIG, 'ahhhhhhhh!' We would never have believed that such a small light bulb, would illuminate every crystal, to the point of appearing like a basket of fire. It actually looked inviting, like if we held our hands over it, we could warm them. And, the glow that filled the room was beautiful---not to mention complementary to every complexion. The crystals remained just slightly warm, even when the lamp was on for several hours.

One of the things we immediately noticed, as the lamp warmed, was that we actually could smell the salt and the effects of the negative ions. According to the packaging, "A scientific study has shown that the lighted salt lamp increases the negative ion count up to 600%." I believe it, when it was overtly noticeable.

So, it seems this 'novelty' gift has unexpectedly earned the status of a special treasure, beautifying our living room, and perhaps providing health benefits, as well. My hubby swears that he has already noticed a difference with his allergies, and the general freshness of the room.

The basket is easy to set up, but will shed some salt in the process, so it's a good idea to work on a surface that is easily cleaned. It is recommended to be placed on some type of place-mat. I would also be very careful if you have small children, or pets. They may be attracted to these crystals---they ARE salt, and DO taste like salt, so they may want to put them in their mouth. It is also very heavy; a child could pull it off a table on themselves.

If you're looking for a holiday gift, I couldn't recommend this lamp more highly. The history, alone, will wow most people. We're looking at pink salt crystals that have been harvested, from the Himalayan mountains, from a 250 million year old natural salt deposit. Then the crystals are sent to local artisans to craft the lamps. I find that fascinating!

If you are remotely interested---this is a must have. Treat yourself, a friend, or loved one. I can almost guarantee there will be NO disappointment.

Update: 06/24/13. My lamp is still going strong with only two bulb replacements since purchase. It's still a focal point for curiosity and complements from those who have never seen such a lamp. Interestingly, Amazon now sells the replacement bulbs, at a good value, which have been a little hard to find.

I bought this lamp on Amazon in early January, 2012. I was hesitant to order this lamp after reading some of the reviews regarding poor quality and sometime lack of dimmer switches, but took a chance because I had an amazon gift card to put to use. I was hoping to use this to help with my allergies and had been eyeing similar items for a while but I really liked the look and size of this lamp the best. I was thrilled to get it promptly, well packaged, and complete with the dimmer switch! The lamp was gorgeous: the basket was sturdy and colors of the salt were just lovely! I read all the directions, carefully unwrapped it, removed the cardboard from around the bulb, then plugged it in and turned it on. The light flickered twice and died! So, I consulted the directions for the bulb size and went out the next day to buy a new bulb. I carefully replaced the bulb and held my breath hoping that would be the necessary fix. I turned it on and the lamp glowed beautifully, but unfortunately, the dimmer switch did NOT work at all..it only served as an on/off switch. I was disappointed about that because being able to adjust the lighting level of this kind of lamp is a nice feature. Still, I was happy to finally get it working and it really looked good.

After being on for only a few hours, the lamp went dark!!! I am not changing the bulb again! The problem is with the lamp, not the bulbs. The electrical components are of poor, hazardous quality and no matter how lovely this lamp looks and how therapeutic it might be...I will NOT buy another one unless the company starts to produce a quality product with more consistent reviews from happy customers. I hoped I would be like one of the lucky ones who got a perfectly good lamp...but no such luck, so I am returning this asap for a refund. If you buy, hope for the best, but keep the packing materials...just in case it dies a quick death like my lamp did!

I bought this because it looked interesting and I was surprised. It is wonderful, and has helped my allergies. I live in Texas, and mold is everywhere. Somehow this lamp helps control mold. Not sure how from a medical standpoint, but I love it and keep it on all day. As a senior citizen I watch my expenses, but would rather pay for this than a doctors visit or allergy pills. Don't hesitate to try this.

A few years ago, I purchased the matching table top fan. The table top fan is the best fan I've ever owned. It's heavy and much more quiet(compared to the plastic fans) and well built. I love the design, it puts out so much air that I only use it on the lowest setting most of the time. I recently moved it from my dressing area to my office. I've decided I just need to get a second one and am now purchasing the floor model for my office. Great fan, pricey compared to the plastic fans on the market, but worth every penny!

I received this item as a Christmas gift a couple of years back. I loved the look of it, and it fit into a very tight spot between my bed and the wall with the including clamp. Shortly after setting it up, I noticed that the light would flicker in intensity intermittently while using it. The problem was off and on, but very annoying for a device you use to read at night by. I contacted Koncept customer support and they were willing to look at it, if i sent it in to them at my own expense. I did so, and after a couple of weeks received the same unit back, with a statement that they could not verify the problem, but replaced the power brick anyway. This did the trick, and I happily enjoyed it for almost a year. Shortly after the one-year warranty expired, the switch to turn it on and off died altogether. A quick google of the issue shows me that it is not isolated at all, and that they used a switch that does not stand up well to use over time. Despite several attempts to contact customer support over the design issue, they were unresponsive.

So while I love the design of Koncept's lamps, I cannot and will not recommend their products to ANYONE.

Ordered this model after reseaching LED lamps on many web sites. This is an excellent lamp for my computer desktop. The silver looks great against my Dell brushed aluminum LCD monitor. Positioning is flexible with the double joints, twisting lamp bar, and included heavy base or clamp mount. Construction has a very solid, durable feel yet is lightweight. Four brightness levels provide more than enough light. I keep it on 3 for computer work. Really like LED low heat and limited angle of projection. This allows me to position this just in front of my monitor without producing screen glare or shining back in my eyes. Yes it is more expensive than most but since it gets used all day every day it is well worth the price to me.

I had some apprehension about such an expensive desk lamp, but I am glad I took the plunge. I was looking for a non-fluorescent articulating desk lamp. Most articulating lamps need constant fiddling/tightening, and don't hold their position very well. The Z-Bar stays right where you put it. No fuss, no tightening or loosening. It also has a tiny footprint. I am using the included desk clamp to attach it to the desktop hole made for wires.

The lamp puts out good light. It doesn't irritate me like fluorescents, and it is almost soothing (I purchased the "Daylight" model). The six individual lights do create a slight six shadow effect. If you can, set the light so that it illuminates from the opposite of your dominate hand (if you are right handed, have it shine from the left so as not to create a shadow from your hand onto your work.

The Z-Bar puts out good light wherever you shine it but it does not cast much ambient light, and the work area is somewhat small (read: if you are looking to light up a room, this is not what you want). You can raise the lamp higher for a broader area.

Bonus: this sucker does not get hot (pretty warm, but not hot). At any time you can touch the lamp without fear. It also uses only 9 watts at full brightness (compared to, say, 60 watts for a normal incandescent).

My only other complaints are niggling. Turning the unit on/off requires 4 presses of either the + or buttons (though the buttons are of good quality and easily accessible). Also, it is a contemporary looking light. Not my style, but I will accept its function over form. Despite the look, it is fairly non-obtrusive, and it goes with pretty much any modern-day office gear (I got the silver).

This is a great and functional product of high quality. After a childhood of being hit on the head with a burning hot desk lamp that wouldn't stay put, I feel that I am finally beginning to see the light (or is that the result of repeated head trauma? ... ). I recommend this product! If you spend a lot of time at work and hate fluorescents, you may wish to spend a bit of scratch on decent lighting. It's a quality of life issue.

(side note: I originally bought the mini-high power led desk lamp. It was nice, but too dinky, so I returned it. I would only recommend that model for a very small work area.)

The light is REALLY concentrated, as in only 1 foot of space receives 90% of the light. This light is sufficient for up to the width of an open text book, but not enough to light up more than that text book or your whole desk. Also, I can see dark spots on the lit area that correspond to the gaps between the LEDs of the bar. It's a little nauseating when I'm trying to study, and it's apparent enough that I can't ignore it. The z-bar is really light and mobile, but I don't move it much from my desk. It doesn't emit any noticeable heat, but the bar gets really hot if you touch it (duh). Did I regret buying it for so much money? Yeah, as you can see I'm pretty dissatisfied with the illumination and those dark spots.

I could have bought a much less expensive desk lamp but I am a tekkie and this lamp looks so good on my desk.

I had originally ordered the 'HIGH POWER' with 6 Next-Gen high power LEDs

& Built-in 4-step dimmer, but due to a mix up somewhere I got the 'Super Bright 66-LED Z-Bar LED Desk Lamp By Koncept', instead. I was somewhat disappointed until I tried this one and found it to be completely capable of illuminating my desk top to a comfortable brightness level.

I notified customer service people at Bigamazonstore (the Amazon seller) of the shipping error, and they e-mailed me very quickly with an offer to send a return shipping label and a swap or credit may account with the difference. I opted for the credit. If I knew the 'HIGH POWER' version was significantly brighter than this one I would have waited for the swap.

I find the light quality to be great for reading with my aging eyes. Text and graphics 'POP' right out of the paper. The light is bluer than sunlight and some people might prefer a warmer light. Without breaking out my light meter and running comparisons I would say this light is at least as bright as a 2 tube fluorescent lamp but with no buzz, no flicker, instant on, and one quarter the power consumption. I wouldn't want to use this light to grade high quality photos for a magazine layout.

Again my hat is off to customer support at Bigamazonstore for their quality response.

Buy Magnifier Lamp 108 LED - Extra-Large 7" Lens - Quick-Adjust Arm

I've used "the other" standard 5" fluorescent magnifier at work before and wanted an LED version at home. Comparing the two, however, revealed some issues:

1). The 7" magnifier is too distorted beyond a 4" center circle to be useful. You might as well get the older cheaper 5" fluorescent version, at least the magnifier is undistorted.

2). The 7" magnifier is too heavy for the neck joint. You must loosen and re-tighten the knob every time you want to readjust angle of the magnifier or it just falls/droops down under its own weight. The old 5" magnifier lamp was half the weight and you could readjust the magnifier without having to re-tighten the knob.

3). The LED light has a plastic cover which reflects some of the LED light straight out the side of the lamp so that if you are sitting eye-level with the lamp, you have some of the light shining straight into your eyes. Very annoying if you are trying to use it as a desk lamp. You might be able to remove the clear plastic cover, but I dont know if everything will fall out if you attempt this.

4). The internal spring mechanism rubs on the inside of the metal arms. Lets just say that it is quite evident that this mechanism is not lubricated. I recommend sticking with the tried-and-true (not to mention serviceable and quiet) external spring arms.

5). The LEDs are a little brighter overall than the standard 22w magnifier lamp, but the light is quite a bit more spread out than the old fluorescent version. The light is slightly cooler and has a lower CRI by comparison.

6). The head has an additional axis of rotation perpendicular to the lens that allows you to "twist" the magnifier. Not really sure what the reasoning was behind this, as the lens is round, so I dont see what difference it makes which way you look into it, but it allows the head to fall over when you try to angle the magnifier at the same time (the center of weight of the head is now off-axis horizontally), thus requiring you to further tighten down on the knob.

In summary: Looks like a good idea at first, but another example of a product which was obviously never used by the designer. Along with cars and washing machines, I'm adding the magnifier desk lamp to my list of products which dont see an increase in reliability/usefulness with price...

I bought this magnifying lamp since I like to build/fix electronics and currently cannot justify going all out on a pro microscope. With this I am able to clearly see and solder 0402 sized components. This thing also puts out enough light to illuminate my entire office (you won't find shadows anywhere under it!). Additionally, the swing arm is very well balanced...a finger push will move the arm into position and it will stay there...no creep or slipping. I've used other lamps that "slip" as the friction clamps can't be tightened enough. This doesn't suffer from that.

This is a great lamp and it is perfect for what I need it for.

At work we use a lot of these types of magnifier lights. I have used no less than 15 different types of them and this one is one of the best that I have used. Nice big 7 inch lens lets you see a lot and 5 diopter has stronger magnification than most at 3 diopter for us older folks. The light also works well.

CONS: The lens is glass and the unit is heavy. You need to be careful of the lens because the ring that holds it in can come undone. The ring is on top so the lens will not fall out in normal use but be careful when you are setting it up.

Great light the lamp bathes the area in light. The magnifier is HUGE. It is also heavy, so make sure that the retaining ring is locked in place as you remove the lamp from the box. The retaining ring can hold the magnifier, but mine was loose after shipping. The articulating arm is top notch, moving anywhere without the need for tightening those annoying wing caps other lamps have. There is one wing cap to tighten for the rotation of the lens itself, but I find that once I placed the lens I have no reason to ever change it. The clamp at the other end of the arm is a huge, heavy metal clamp. It it miles better than the plastic clamps I have busted repeated on cheaper lamps. One caution if you will be clamping this to particle board, I would strongly recommend that you clamp a small piece of 1x4" on the side that you tighten. It bears a heavy load in a small space. The top half is a wide metal piece, and it is unlikely to cause problems. The on/off switch is a rocker, which I find much easier than those rotating types. It seems like a quality switch, and the LEDs draw so little power I doubt that I'll have any problem with it. Wrapping up, I like this lamp so much that I would definitely buy another if I had need for one. I've had this one for several months as I write this (I don't do instant reviews anymore) and I like this lamp more everyday. How often does one get to say that about a product?

This is a Bourya Model No. 8062D3LED lamp. I don't see any other name on it although my research indicates that it's one of the specialty lamp products made by Ningbo Jaili Optoelectroinc Co. LTD. in China. From my perspective, it's form, fit and function are very impressive.

The Pros:

Its 108 LED's, laid-out in 2 rows surrounding the magnifying glass, create a large blanket of cool white significant illumination.

It's only using (according to my P4400 Kill A Watt Meter) 6.6 watts at 160 ma to out perform my old double-light fluorescent lamp at it's usage of 40.4 watts while producing at least 1 1/2 times the light or more. (A guesstimate as I don't have a meter.)

For electronics work, hobby painting, or other tasks requiring color differentiation in the application, the light color is a preferable cooler *white* as-opposed-to the warmer yellowish light emitted by my older fluorescent lamp.

The very large diameter and capacity magnifying glass is reasonably usable.

Its adjustment arms have a very expansive range furthering it's useability. The clamp tightens well and the arms stay put.

The assembly successfully walks the line of light weight materials vs durability. For a lamp to hold a heavy glass on the one hand, and to be easily controllable to manipulate over the work on the other, is not the easiest task.

Where I got it on-line, the glass had already been assembled into the lamp assembly. I merely had to wipe-off the smudges.

The Cons:

The magnifying glass has *distractable* visual distortion limited to "approximately" the last 1.25" or so of it's outside diameter. The remaining distortion/magnification in my opinion, given this type of lens, while it's not uniform, is more usable then a distraction. It's the wrong lens to use for prolonged reading, however for verifying details on hobby items, collectables, jewelry items and electronic components, etc, it's fine.

Other than the fact that it was made in China as part of the bankster/corporate America sell-out, I can't think of any other cons. I didn't have any of the issues as noted by a couple of the other reviewers on my first one purchased.

As this one is used at my desk, I plan on buying a second one for use in my R&D and build-up area. With the Bourya name and model number in hand, I was able to buy it on the web at an auction sight (11/2011) fully assembled, where some reviews have bemoaned a glass lens assembly step. Its price was cheaper than what it's being promoted and sold for here.

I recommend it.

Update: 12/03/2011. I bought a second one for the same price from the same seller as the first with no problems. It also arrived with all of it's components, although I had to reposition the glass and tighten the loose retaining ring. Tool-less operation, no big deal.

Update: 10/08/2013. The one with the more rectangular leans might be a better choice. I have two of these, so I'll probably not know through ownership.

I still recommend it. Word of caution remove slowly from its styrofoam packaging until glass lens mounting has been confirmed.

I purchased three of these lights to install over the kitchen counter as a part of my major remodel. I am excited to get them in to see how they look and function. They look very classy!

UPDATE 4-27-13: These lights are BEAUTIFUL! Even my contractor was impressed with how they look! CFL bulbs make the globes look a brownish/golden which doesn't really work with my colors. So, I put in LED bulbs, and the shades match the "eggnog" colored paint on the wall. They are on a special mount that allows them to swing back and forth . . . or be hung from a vaulted ceiling. Due to my ceiling height, we used only the rod attached to the leaf fixture part and then the shortest rod. We didn't use the two additional rods that would have allowed the lights to hang five to six feet from the ceiling.

Lava Lite 2414 The Dark Knight RisesTM Scene Lava Lamp, Black Review

I purchased this item through a vendor on Amazon and it must have been the last one because immediately the item became only available through Amazon (and at nearly double the price). Mine arrived in a tube container with The Dark Knight Rises imagery and DC logo on it, so I have no reason to believe the manufacture of the product is any different. Many reviewers for other Lava Lites complain about this, so it seems to be common: The liquid is very cloudy once it's turned on and the 'lava' isn't black, it's dark grayish, the combination of which, frankly, causes the appearance to look like poop while it's operating. See video I posted and decide for yourself if this appearance will be satisfactory for you. I have mine on top of a bookcase near the ceiling if I had it anywhere near eye level I'd never be able to eat while it's on (it does look nice while it's off, though). I've submitted a return request for mine.

Update 1/26/13: I got an email from the seller that they'd only refund half my money since the item had been opened and used. I wonder how a customer can determine whether an item's defective (or just plain sucks) without trying it? Anyway, it's a different vendor from the current posting of this item my order was not "fulfilled by Amazon", like this one. Just saying...BUYER BEWARE think twice before buying from a non-fulfilled-by-Amazon vendor on these lites.

I've really enjoyed this lava lamp. Black lava and clear liquid is a nice combination that doesn't seem to have the funky groovy retro feel of the more colorful versions ... it's more classy looking, Batman graphics notwithstanding.

One thing I've noticed is that the level of ambient light makes a big difference in how it looks. I also have the white wax/black liquid Batman lamp and they react pretty differently to light level. With lots of light in the room, like during a sunny day, the light coming from the bulb is less noticeable and the wax takes on a nice inky black color. But at night, even in a well-lit room, the wax looks purplish and there's lots of light reflection, and it doesn't look very cool. I think even the black wax has some transparency so it appears purple when the light traveling through it is visible. Meanwhile, the one with white wax looks better in a darker room because the wax glows more.

The point being, this is a great color choice if you're going to be using it during the day, like at the office. If it's going to be on at night I'd suggest a lighter wax color.

There's one other thing I noticed: this lamp has more interesting lava flow than my white wax lamp. I get lots of snakey long blobs and nice medium-sized round balloony ones going up and down. The white lamp just has a thin strip of wax that rises every few seconds from a mass at the bottom. I have a feeling it's because the black wax absorbs more heat and so the whole system runs hotter. Or it could just be due to variation across different lamps.

I haven't had any cloudiness issues with mine, but you definitely want to check return policies before you buy these over the Internet. And for the love of Mike, don't have one of these shipped across the country during hot weather.

I just got this lamp for my grandson's birthday and since we don't live in the same city I needed to know that this product was as advertised and also wasn't damaged. The solution inside the lamp is advertised as being clear but this was not so. It was very opaque and that made the flowing wax look pale grey, not pleasant to look at. I am returning this item and I may get the lamp with the dark fluid and white wax.

...because they are so pretty but they are flimsy and fall apart easily. They are not worth the cost because they are one step away from being cardboard. They are a good idea though if they could be made well.

Product had to be picked up at post office since I wasn't home when mail man first brought it. Then when I got the package, it was only about 4 inches thick....and I bought two! So, I had to put it together, which took abit of time with the help from my wife since I needed more hands to keep it from falling apart during assembly.

Also, be advised that the black die used to cover the lamp will come off on your hands during assembly as well. The lamp still is all black with the rice paper inside cover, but the black die on my hands was a surprise.

Over all I do like the product, and is a nice addition to the night stands in our bedroom.

First, this lamp is a complete piece of garbage. The wood poles are crooked and bowed, mine had chips all over them that had to be painted with black nail polish, and the bottoms aren't cut squarethey're just haphazardly chopped off.

While putting it together (which was very easy) more pieces of black flaked off, and nothing went together perfectly.

The best part, though? What the pictures DO NOT SHOW YOU.

The picture shows the lamp shade with a little pull string dangling down. They obviously used photo editing software to erase the giant silver wingnut which sticks out of that board, is EXTREMELY noticeable, and also had to be painted black.

And they also erase the cord, which comes straight down the middle of the top board, and comes with zip tiesyes, ZIP TIES (one of mine was broken) to hold the cord against the legs of the shelf. It's absolutely ridiculous looking. If the cord came down the side or even just off to one side, it wouldn't be that noticeable, but because it comes straight down the middle you have no choice but to just pull it to the side...it looks horrid. I will try to add a product picture.

I would expect this lamp to be $10-$15 at a store like Dollar General or Big Lots. It is DEFINITELY not a $50 lamp.

ETAI wrote this review before using the zip ties because I wanted to wait until my husband came home to attach them tightly. Both of the zip ties literally snapped in pieces when he tried to attach them. We had to buy zip ties to hold the cord in place.

liked the idea of a lamp with small shelves available to put decorative things or perhaps a cup/plate. It went together well. The color stain was applied nicely, no drips or such. It is a little light in stability but that is reflected in the reasonable price. A decorative piece put on the bottom shelf can help. It comes with 2 thin zip ties to adhere the electrical cord to the frame. This is because the cord runs from the top of the lamp down to the floor and then over to the outlet. Without the ties, the cord would be hanging loosely and wouldn't look so neat. I put a couple more of my own ties on it.

Its a good looking lamp. Not as bright as I would have expected it to be though.

However, while building it, you will realize that the lamp is not top quality. You basically get what you pay for. The wood its made of is not of the highest quality. And the Shelves on the lamp are only good for lighter stuff.

All in all, I think its worth the money. But if you think you are getting a bargain here, then you have another thing coming your way.
