You need to know that these type of dimmers will eventually fail. You will know when the switch turns on/off but doesn't dim. What causes this? Everyday stuff: A light bulb going out, spikes in power. Just keep that in mind when you get this.

These are simple, durable, and work. After going through a bunch of noisy or poorly built dimmers I've settled on these and have several that have held up to daily use for years now.

Do note these get fairly warm. I would make sure to leave them out in a well-ventilated area. Definitely don't cover this in pillows, blankets, or paper goods. This goes for most any dimmer, if you know how dimmers work, and why they tend to get warm (or very hot).

Other than that this is a highly recommended piece of goods for the price.

Update: Have had two fail. The first @around 3 years, and the second at just over 2 years of use. I am ordering two more. I can spare < $5/year for a quiet dimmer that works. It is cheap plastic, and not built to last.

If I could figure out who makes Holtkoetter's floor slide-dimmer those are the best I have ever owned. I have one almost 20 years old still going, perfect. You might try a lighting store that carries Holtkoetter. But IIRC they aren't cheap. Haven't found anything comparable in a cheap dimmer, so I'll stick with these for now.

Have only been using this for a few days. Hooked it up yesterday to new bulb. No problems using different settings. Bulb doesn't flicker at all even at the dimmest. No hum. The tiny light on it is nice in the dark. Stays on all the time funny it goes dimmer the brighter the light is on. No problems like I read about with other ones. Price is good. Will see how it holds up and post if problem in future.

I have this dimmer hooked to two prairie style lamps in the living room, each of which has two 60w bulbs. Total 240w. The dimmer will bring them down below the level of candlelight. Excellent when watching a movie on TV.

After several hours of use the dimmer feels slightly warm to the touch. No surprise and no problem there: A dimmer is a rheostat, which regulates resistance. More resistance > less voltage > more heat. Perfectly normal and causes no problems. Some dimmers are noisy; this one is as silent as a tomb.

It's a good product. Now that I've tried it, I'll get one or two more for other lights.

After reading reviews of other dimmers I was concerned that it would have a buzzing sound, and disturb my sleep. This one however is completely silent and it works perfectly for the icicle lights hanging up in my room. Great product.

We had broken a similar lamp and were looking for a replacement set. The quality is fair. The stem that holds on the shade was incredibly warped which made the shade askew. It was also at least two inches too long so the bulbs were showing under the lampshade. We had to go and buy new stems to make the lamp work and now it is a decent lamp, although cannot hold a candle to the Dale Tiffany lamps we purchased a few years ago. Granted they were around $250 a lamp.

I am mildly obsessed with this lamp! We just recently moved and I wanted to incorporate a subtle bird and ivy/tree theme in my bedroom. I came across this lamp and fell in love. It's even better in person! The bird is sort of a dark mustard color, the leaves are a dark green, the "berries" are little clear crystal beads at the ends of the branches, and the base and branches are a dark brown/iron color but it's all very subdued. I finally received the lamps after the second shipping as there was a glitch in their first shipment sending them to the wrong place. They are exactly what I wanted and perfect bedside in our master bedroom. The single bird on each lamp looks carved, clear berries tip branches and the leaves are a nice green. A lovely lamp.

The lamps work as a cheap alternative to designer lamps. I have one on each side of my bed. I was disappointed with the overall craftsmanship. The glass-ish tiles were coming off and the top fasteners were loose. I took a glue gun and easily re-affixed the tiles.

The lamp shades are poorly constructed. There is a very obvious seem where you can see the white liner edge. They dent easily and are impossible to smooth out the dents.

Packaging on the product was very poor, causing obvious dents to the cheap lamp shades. Upon arrival, lampshades on both lamps were permanently dented, and glass tiles were falling off.

I bought this as a desk lamp replacement. I wanted something cheap (I got this for around $18) and something sturdy. This was relatively cheap and looked decently rugged.

It's an okay lamp. The light is nice a bright, fluorescent with a tinge of blue it's nice light to read under. The design is attractive and its form factor is perfect for a desk, but the hinges and joints are wretched. It's incredibly hard to position into a perfect placement. The magnifying glass is reasonably powerful 2X isn't all that great. The lens also has some distortion around the perimeter resulting in a small window of clarity, and coupled with the low magnification make the lens somewhat useless. I didn't buy this lamp for the magnification but appreciated the addition; in the end, I never use it anyways.

I purchased two of these lamps. I had to return the first one because the magnifier head wouldn't stay in position. The second one wouldn't light and then there was a loud pop from the base. It smelled like electronics burning. So that one will be returned as well.

I have purchased some Peachtree products and like them, but IMO the Magtite Base work light from Rockler, also available through Amazon, is a better deal, though it is higher priced at $29.99. (But free shipping moves the prices closer together, since Peachtree has a $6.99 shipping charge for this item making it almost $24 with shipping.)

The Magtite has an 18' power cord,vs. 5' for this one, you get a spring clamp for clamping onto things when the magnetic base won't work, and you also get a second cage-type reflector good for working on cars or other areas that where the light may need more protection from swinging tools or other hazards. And most customer reviews for the Magtite light as of today (12/17) give it 5 stars.

I had purchased some of these from another source previously that have worked well. Unfortunately they are no longer available from the where I got them before. The ones from Peachtree are almost identical, except they have a smaller base and weaker magnet. Cost cutting by the manufacturer?

The magnet is not strong enough to securely support the light on any surface. In addition on one of the two I bought, the magnet came loose immeadietly and had to be epoxied.

Otherwise it is a good fixture to hold LED spot light bulbs to provide additional lighting on a work area. If you know where you want it, maybe it could be screwed down.

It is a really great lamp with a lot of detail on it and any dragon lover would enjoy this in their collection. The only issue I have is getting off the orb to change the light bulb which can be a pain in the neck as their are clamps on the inside. You have to carefully slide the orb off or else you could possibly break it. The bulb used is 7w so its more of a nightlight then a really bright lamp.

They come set up as a night light, but I fit in a 60w equivelent flourecent bulb (harder to get with a candelabra style base) and use it as a reading lamp. Looks great and attracts attention. Curious why a dragon would need a sword.

Just received this lamp and I am quite pleased. The lamp is tall and the shades are not in a straight row but gradually come away from the lamp with the top one being the one that is furthest away. The lamp must be placed on a table that is at least 17 inches in depth, depth being measured from the front of the table to the back of the table, no smaller. The width of the table that it is placed on should be at least 20" wide from the left side of the table to the right side of the table. If placed on a smaller surface the highest of the 3 shades will probably stick out over the table. Anyone walking nearby can easily brush against the shade and down goes the lamp, shades and all. You have the ability of using 1, 2 or 3 of the lights. You can dim them or for reading make them as bright as they are capable of being. The switch is located on the lamp base. I would have given this 5 stars had the arms been adjustable. A few years ago I purchased a lamp which also had arms like these the only difference being that the arms on the lamp which I purchased awhile ago are adjustable. When reading you can adjust the arms so that you can place the light where you feel it is the most comfortable and advantageous. For some reason the lamps that are sold today that are similar looking to these do not come with adjustable arms. Nevertheless this is a very attractive lamp which is also functional giving off quite a bit of light. It takes 3 halogen bulbs which can get extremely hot but give off more light then a regular bulb. I had the lamp facing forward and was able to read my book without any problem regarding having enough bright light to read by. Light dusting is all that is needed. Any dusting should be done when the lamp has been off for a while and is not hot. Considering that the arms are not adjustable this lamp is quite adequate for any activity that requires a bright light and is an attractive addition to any room.

CORRECTION: Just took another look at this item. It is somewhat adjustable. The shade and bulb portion situated at the top of each arm can be adjusted individually. This part of the lamp can be positioned so that they all face down or each of the 3 bulbs and shades can be adjusted individually by turning just that portion (the entire arm remains intact except for the top where the shade and bulb are connected to the arm) allowing you to utilize each of the 3 lights where they will do the most good. They will remain at the same level since they cannot be moved up or down but the light source for each arm can be adjusted regarding brightness (the switch that turns on the lamp can make the lamp dimmer or brighter)in addition to allowing you to reposition each of the 3 shade and bulb portions of the lamp. You can adjust the light source so that it is positioned just where you want the light to be directed. The lights can be individually directed to 3 different areas at once (facing down, to the left or to the right) if you so desire. Because of the fact that the light sources on the lamp can be repositioned, I have given this lamp 5 stars instead of 4.

I purchased three of these lights to install over the kitchen counter as a part of my major remodel. I am excited to get them in to see how they look and function. They look very classy!

UPDATE 4-27-13: These lights are BEAUTIFUL! Even my contractor was impressed with how they look! CFL bulbs make the globes look a brownish/golden which doesn't really work with my colors. So, I put in LED bulbs, and the shades match the "eggnog" colored paint on the wall. They are on a special mount that allows them to swing back and forth . . . or be hung from a vaulted ceiling. Due to my ceiling height, we used only the rod attached to the leaf fixture part and then the shortest rod. We didn't use the two additional rods that would have allowed the lights to hang five to six feet from the ceiling.

This lamp looks exactly like the picture. Although the silver is shiny, it's also a little distressed (which I like). I don't think that comes across in the picture. Also, the shade might be a hair too large for the base. I'm going to try a smaller one.

This lamp is lovely and well-made, but between the dark brown shade and the 100w max bulb, it isn't suitable for reading. It is also smaller than I expected. The silvered mirror base is 8" wide by 3" deep at it's widest point. It would be most suitable for a contemporary room with modest sized furnishings. The shade is a dark copper brown inside and out. When the light is on, the shade is a rich burgundy color. Note that if you return the lamp, you will pay shipping to and from the seller (two lamps cost $30 total shipping).

These lamps only cost $14.99 at Ikea, but they don't last long at all, and 75% of them have finish flaws or paint bubbles (which is why they say they are 'unique')! Don't waste your money!!!

I purchased this lamp to replace a similar styled but smaller lamp behind my sectional sofa. The old lamp was the type that screwed together in several sections and tended to fall over as the threads were stripping out. I mention this because this lamp consisted of three pieces the base, the bottom section, and the top section. The lamp assembled securely and I am confident that this will last unlike the other reviewer I did not have any issue with the spot welds and do not recollect them at all (The lamp is behind the couch I don't look at the base much).

The biggest complaint that I have with this lamp is that it does not use traditional light bulbs, so I cannot put in the CFL bulbs that I removed from the old lamp. This lamp uses the smaller base bulbs (I don't know what they are called) and does come with all five bulbs. When I first put the lamp together I was concerned that the 5 40-watt bulbs would not put out adequate light, but I am pleased to say that the lamp is pretty bright and I usually turn the dimmer-style switch to about half way as it is enough light.

I would certainly purchase this again.

This lamp only takes narrow-base, candelabra-type bulbs, not standard bulbs as stated in the description. I am so disappointed. I had planned to use dimmable, daylight-spectrum, compact fluorescent bulbs to provide a large amount of white light. That is now out of the question and I have to repack a very heavy, bulky item for return, which won't be easy considering the cardboard box was already in bad shape upon arrival.

I was really excited to find this lamp on Amazon at such a great price. I found a similar lamp at a local furniture store for about $250.00 so this was half the price. I received my lamp today in the mail and I am sad to say the quality did not meet my expectations.

The lamp was poorly packaged and my lamp has small areas of paint chips, and scrapes, and the paint is cracking on the top of the unit. Actually it looks rather used. Assembly is also a pain. I suggest working over a bed and letting the unit drape over the top of your bed. Then stand on your bed when you want to put in the light bulbs because the light is so tall.

Functionally the lamp works great, there are five small bulbs but they put off a lot of light, and the dimmer is nice to have. I am going to keep the lamp and try to touch up some of the areas missing paint, mostly because I do not want to have to take it apart and ship it back to Amazon. It is a cool design, very trendy and it works well in my living room.

I ordered this product to replace an existing lamp that I had in my living room that recently broke. Since they no longer made the lamp that I had, I searched for something that seemed reasonably close and would illuminate what is normally a very dark room. Unfortunately the descripton of this light is very misleading. I thought that the arms would bend or flex but they do not and I was concerned that if I forced them I would break it and be unable to return it. This lamp is described as 84" inches (7 ft) but I can tell you it is not; I have a 7 ft Christmas tree and even with a 12 inch angel on top, I still have clearance to the ceiling which is why I thought this lamp would work but it does not. The light vents at the top of each arm rest against my living room ceiling and they will either cause damage to the ceiling over time or even worse could potentially cause a fire. I e-mailed the seller (OJ Commerce) to find out about returning this item and they are the worst company I have ever had to deal with. The cost of the lamp with shipping was $126.97($6.97 ground). When I inquired with UPS what it would cost to return it, I was told $159.00 (not happening). I contacted the seller and I asked for their help and this is what they "so generously" offered me: $40.00 UPS shipping back to them and 30% restocking fee to be deducted from any refund I would be entitled to. Basically they get the light back and 80% of my money. I am so furious that I contacted Amazon to assist me with resolution. So far they have been very supportive but this vendor is not even responding to their inquiries on my behalf. In addition to the actions I have taken with Amazon, I am also turning this company into the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately I cannot give this lamp anything other than a poor rating because it is unusable. I would caution anyone contemplating purchasing this light to rethink your options even if you choose to use another supplier because the sheer size of it will cost you a fortune if you need to return it for any reason. I cannot even sell it independently on Amazon because of the outrageous shipping costs. UPDATE 2/25/13 I am still trying to get my money back from this vendor from an order that was placed and received in November and returned the beginning of January. I restate what I have mentioned above: STAY AWAY FROM OJ COMMERCE, THEY ARE DISHONEST AND WILL JERK CUSTOMERS AROUND IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH AN ORDER.

I ordered the White 5 arm arch floor lamp with Amazon free shipping option on Sunday night and received it Tuesday afternoon. love buying from Amazon! This is a lamp quite easy to assembly but need 2 people to hold the rod and arms. Someone complaints this is too heavy to assembly but definitely i see it as a plus for the build. Love this lamp. I recommend it. besides, every website states that the light bulbs are not included which is not true. 5-40 watts bulbs are nicely placed inside the shipment. You can use the lamp right after setting it up.
