The lamp is more than beautiful and the customer service is "A" NUMBER ONE. We put it together and realized the screw holes were not aligned and my husband pulled it apart to fix and the wires pulled apart. We did what it said not to do and the gorgeous lamp was broke. When I let customer service know what we did they didn't care that it was our fault and immediately offered to send another or give us a refund. We want the lamp for sure but will be very careful to not pull the wires out.

No complaints about the lamp's ability to project light.

If you'd like to be able to actually point said light where you want it, however, you may run into a bit of trouble. The joints on what I guess you can call the elbow and wrist will hold decently, but there is nothing to stop the entire lamp from pivoting on the base wherever gravity will take it.

If you've got the lamp clamped to a horizontal surface, I suppose the above won't cause you any trouble. If you're trying to clamp it to the top of, say, a drafting table, you'll probably need to make a few "repairs" to keep it from swinging back into your face.

I bought this lamp over a year ago in hopes that it would last longer than the one I bought at Wallmart, (which I would have to replace in about a years time).

This swing arm lamp was easy to set up, I knew I would not be moving the lamp so I permanently anchored it to the desk. I use a high efficiency 40 watt bulb, but, the lamp head will easily hold a larger 100 watt. I move this lamp all different directions, I swivel the head up to the ceiling and down at the desk, the head stays where you put it, it has yet to work itself loose. Good workmanship for a $20.00 lamp. I highly recommend it.

I bought these glass light bulbs since I find that 'bare spiral' type CFL bulbs emit lighting that's too harsh. Also, the 'bare spiral' shape is just not suited for pendant light fixtures.

This GE Energy-Smart Covered Glass CFL Light Bulb (with its tiny electronic ballast) looks like a regular incandescent light bulb but has all the advantages of fluorescent lighting. The GE 75-watt Equivalent uses only 20 watts effectively an energy reduction of over 70% great!

Since fluorescent bulbs do not generate as much heat as regular incandescent light bulbs, I find this GE CFL light bulb ideal for the pendant light fixture above my kitchen table.

The color temperature of this CFL glass light bulb is 2700K the same color temperature of a regular incandescent light bulb. The light produced by this CFL bulb appears yellowish white so you get the same warm glow of an incandescent lamp with less than 30% of the energy! That = $avings! :))

A FURTHER NOTE ON BULB COLOR TEMPERATURE: As the color temperature increases to 3000K 3500K, the color of the light appears less yellow and more white. A bulb with a color temperature of 5000K or higher, produces light that appears bluish white this is the color temperature of daylight.

ABOUT THE BULB'S WARM UP PERIOD: Compact fluorescents in general require a warm-up period to reach peak luminous power. Although this is an inherent issue with current CFL technology, many reviewers cite the long 'warm up period' as a negative ... and indeed it is, especially with this bulb's tiny electronic ballast. It takes longer to warm up than regular CFL bulbs with bulky ballasts.

I conducted my own 'tests' on the 'warm up period' of the GE 20-Watt Energy-Smart Covered Glass CFL Light Bulbs. When switched on, this CFL Light Bulb starts up at about 40% brightness and reaches its peak brightness after about 2.5 minutes. I took out one star for the long 'warm-up' time.

Being a long time user of CFL bulbs, I have since adjusted to their quirky 'warm up' issue. Nowadays, the only place I recommend using incandescent light bulbs is in your bathroom. You certainly don't want to take a nasty tumble there in the middle of the night!

ALSO RECOMMENDED: The lower wattage GE CFL Light Bulbs, 40-Watt Equivalent is suitable for your Vanity Light. Also, the GE CFL Light Bulbs, 60-Watt Equivalent provides adequate lighting for a small room.

The long warmup time is for real. I have some uses that can tolerate that quite well. In one room, the light goes on at dark and off at 10:30PM. This works well for that. Not usable with dimmers or electronic timers. A lampshade that clips onto a standard incandescent will fit and hold on this "bulb', but it is a tight fit. The curly lamps will not hold such a shade and require a harp shade. This lamp serves some purposes well. Not well suited for some other purposes.

I purchased this package of bulbs, along with another item. The 'other item' was a large dehumidifier that weighed over 40lbs. An Amazon doo-fus packed these light bulbs in the same box (yes, I said that...the same box) as the 40+ lb dehumidifier. You guessed it...the bulbs were crushed to white powder upon delivery. The package was there, but full of powder. Bizarre. Apparently, one can't call Amazon. So, I attempted to get a replacement. They wanted me to 'return' the white powder...I did not, as my explanation clearly explained the details of the damaged package and white powder. Now, Amazon is charging me a second time for the replacements they sent me. Very frustrating. One of the pitfalls of ordering through Amazon. I spend, conservatively, $1,000 year on this site over dozens of orders each year. This is the first mess I've encountered with Amazon, so I'll continue to order. BUT, I'll refrain from ordering light bulbs at the same time I order anything else.

A basic, utilitarian lamp that doesn't add or detract from a basic room. Getting the darned thing unpacked can drive you crazy and I found it impossible to get all the Styrofoam off the cord. Still, for the price, not bad.

The plastic attachment device to affix the lamp often breaks when tightened. If you don't tighten it enough the lamp is unsteady. This has happened several times over the years with Alvin swing lamps and is the result of supplying and using a supposedly hardened plastic attachment rather than one made of steel. Be prepared to drill a hole or otherwise jerry-rig some other method to mount this lamp. It is a great lamp when it works but getting it mounted is sometimes a problem and is the result of the cheapening and plasticization of many products.

The Alvin lamp; and other brands, but especially Alvin have been around about as long as I can remember, and I am going on 66. I used these lamps for all of my 40 year work carrier as first, a drafter (yea, I actually drew with a pencil) and then into graphics and CAD, but this lamp was always around.

Because of this 40 years (and now more) I can give you a few hints about its use and misuse.

First, do not yank the lamp around like its a garden hose; parts will break.

Second, mount the lamp where you have proper clearance in the directions you plan on moving the swing arm.

Third, move the lamp to the position or general area you will most likely use it the most and then do your

adjusting.

Fourth, (and this is a little secret) you can use the cord as leverage at the lamp head by pulling some of the

cord back through the swing arm assembly and in doing so this will help hold up the lamp head and not put all

the strain on the tightening screw (which is plastic). This (besides the main plastic clamp) is one of your two main stress areas.

Fifth, loosen the middle screw more than the others and the swing arm will flex much better and you will let the

springs do there jobs.

And lastly, Yeh, the friggin clamp is made of plastic; if you can't live with it, drill a hole in the desk and

shove in the post.

I do have at least 4 or 5 of the old metal clamps laying around this place and I guess it would be a good time to go find one.

I bought this lamp for a dorm room, where my desk is under my bed. It fits my needs perfectly. It clamps on (the clamp can be mounted on a sideways plane) the support brace for my bed, and is highly articulate. It's also very steady, if you tighten down the screws, and doesn't droop too much if tightened. My one problem with this lamp is that it has the tendency to droop slightly if not tightened, and the clamp may wear out (but is probably replaceable.) If you're looking for a cheap swing arm lamp that still looks professional, look no further!

I have owned two of these lamps now. I bought the first one and was initially impressed by the flexibility of the lamp it swivels and it turns quite well and, as such, it appeared to be a perfect desk lamp for those that occasionally require more light than at other times. You can flick it on and pull it into place (say, for spotlighting a book you're reading) and then you can push it back out of the way easily again. So, due to this initial experience, I decided to buy a second one (as a reading lamp for the bedroom).

However, now both of these lamps are broken. The reason is simple: the plastic fixtures which connect the lamp to the desk are just too brittle. I made the minor mistake of turning the lamp in a direction that it is supposed to be able to turn in and, suddenly: POP the fixture snapped in two!

And today, Lamp Number 2 went the same way of the Dodo I was trying to turn the lamp around, so I could illuminate a document and POP the same cheap plastic fixture gave way with almost no pressure having been applied to it whatsoever.

Thus, I'm in the market for a new desk lamp and, despite everything else about this lamp being really rather good, I fear I simply cannot purchase another one of these lamps, due to the inevitable POP (and mourning period) that will follow shortly thereafter.

I would not recommend purchasing this lamp UNLESS you do not wish to swing the swing arm. Ever. (Seriously do not touch the swing arm: then everything should be fine).

Otherwise, avoid or, prepare for a POP.

I had a dark corner in my living room and was looking for a swag lamp which was bright enough to double as a reading light. We didn't really need the table lamp but we fell in love with it when it arrived so we easily made a spot for it. The circumference of the shade of the swag lamp was larger than I had imagined but it still fit the space well. The cord is plenty long and so is the chain, so if your application causes the chain to be exposed it will still look nice. The flickwheel switch is about 6 inches from the plug, which was perfect for me, as I plug it into a surge protector next to my recliner, but if your outlet is behind something, this might not work for you.

This is a solid lamp with a sturdy build. Installation was simple.

The base is relatively heavy and will support 'hard' angles of twist from the three movable areas. However, I do not like where the I/O switch is located; it is a separate controller unit on the power line, as opposed to on the actual lamp.

There are 3 LED's with good table coverage. It lights up my work desk (say, a surface area of ~10 square feet) well.

For those looking for a warmer glow, there is a slight caveat (a preference issue). This LED lamp emits a white glow vis-a-vis the warm yellow glow from traditional halogens. Some may find the whiteness jarring for the eyes. I personally do not mind. As such I am perfectly happy with the product.

I chose this lamp for its price and looks, but was surprised to find good illumination coverage.

Great looking lamp. I think it's quite large for a regular desk lamp. The base alone is as big as my laptop screen. If you're planing to get this lamp for a small desk, you may want to reconsider. The operating switch is on the powercord, i think it's best to have it on the lamp itself. The neck is quite long and fully adjustable. Uni-directional lighting. Gives enough lighting to read and work without poluting the wholeroom with light. Love the modern design, energy saving and look.

Their light is harsh and not conducive to a comfortable work experience. As for this light, the styling was ok but the switch (on the cord) started failing after 6 or 7 months. It didn't go totally but I didn't use the light all that much and it should not have started acting up so quickly IMHO. Styling is OK. Goose neck was nice.

I gave it away because I just don't like LED lamps.

This "clamp on" lamp features an idiotic clamp designa curved "L" shaped bolt that slips into the plastic base of the lamp. The problem with this design is that if the weight of the lamp is slightly off centersay if you want to extend it or rotate it around, thus rocking ityou will unavoidably cause the entire clamp assembly to fall apart and the lamp will come crashing down. For $20 it's not worth sending back, but if I had it to do over again I would definitely NOT buy this lamp.

I love this lamp, yeah the clamp is worthless but you don't have to use it. The base has four screw holes in it so you can permanently attach it to the desk if you want. I have a cheap Ikea computer desk and screwed it to the top shelf. I can move it anywhere I want with the long arm and get plenty of light. It even came with a 23w CFL bulb which is the brightest I've ever owned. It gives off as much as a 100w incandescent bulb without the heat. I had an old one of these lamps with plastic parts which kept breaking off and I'd have to improvise parts to keep it working. This lamp comes with metal parts that will not be breaking anytime soon.

So bottom line, if you don't mind screwing the lamp to the desk top this is a great lamp for the money. If that is not an option for you don't buy it, the clamp will not suffice in holding it up.

February 24, 2013.... still love this lamp. Using the same bulb and looks and works like it is right out of the box. I use it 10 hours a day six days a week and it is great!

I have a similar Alvin swing lamp and thought it was the same product under a different brand. I wanted it in red, so I decided to get the Litesource one. I was mistaken. It looks like the same lamp but the quality is much worse. The clamp design is very bad on all lamps of this type, but this one is made of apparently an even worse plastic and part of it was cracked and snapped off as I was taking it out of the box. The pins that hold the tension rods are made of metal on the Alvin lamp, but here they are made from a plastic that bends and looks like it is about to snap off (and release a spring into someone's eye!) One of the springs came off in the box because of that. The switch cover does not stay in place. Etc. Too bad I liked the red color, but I am getting a refund.

I like the light, but the clamp component is small and doesn't stay tight. When trying to swing the arm, the whole clamp swings sometimes. I think it was overpriced for the clamp trouble I have had. For the money spent, I expected it all to work well. Also, the clamp size is limited to slender table tops. It's unstable if it's open wide. I wished I would have just gotten a table top model as this has proved to be a bit annoying.

The quality of the lamp does not compare to the picture. The ribbon is tied in a bow, not a knot and mine was glued to the seam of the lamp (not the flat side). I feel like the picture is not accurate. Also, you only get ONE lamp...not two (like the picture and description state). I finally picked up one of the larger fans, the tall AM02 blue one, a few months ago. And I spent a few weeks really vacillating on whether to keep it or not, until I finally stopped comparing it to my big "turbo" floor fan and started comparing it to other tower fans I'd tried in the past and returned. Now I love that AM02 fan, and wouldn't be without it. So when the time came for me to find something useful for in my office, I immediately thought of this smaller version. Since it was over 1/3 off retail price, I grabbed it, figuring if it's really bad I can return it.

It arrived quickly (Prime member) and I unboxed it at work. Assembly was just as easy as the other, even easier as it's such a small unit. Simply inserting the ring on top of the base and twisting slightly to lock it in place. That's it. Plug it in and away you go.

Immediately I disliked the lack of a remote as the other unit has. It's a great feature since this isn't some tiny little "personal" fan that's only an inch or two across, plugged into the USB on your computer and sitting 8 inches away from you. I also dislike how you have to "chase" the buttons when you have it oscillating. The other thing I noticed right away was the noise. This is NOT as silent as the larger brethren are. And compound that then since I have it in my office, so it's just a fraction of the volume of the space in the great room at home I have the taller version in. The tall one is just about totally silent on the lower settings. This one is very noticeable except at the very very lowest setting. ANY turn of the knob to increase the speed, it's just amazing how quickly it gets into "annoying" levels.

I do like the tilt feature that's something my AM02 doesn't do, and the entire unit tilts, rotating fan housing and all. It doesn't tilt a great deal, but more than sufficient I think for the size of the unit and the distance you'll likely be using it at.

Also like the larger version, the oscillation is just amazing perfectly smooth, perfectly noiseless. These Dyson units have the best oscillation I've had on any tower fan I've tried.

As far as speeds, it's more than adequate in an office area, at 8 feet away it blows papers off my desk on high speeds. Mid speed is still enough to ruffle them around.

My biggest problem is the noise if it were as quiet as my larger unit it would've been ideal, but it may just be the lesser amount of linear inches of fan exhaust ducting or something, but this is certainly a different level of noise than the larger ones. At the lowest speed setting, if I'm within arm's reach of the unit and can touch it, I can just BARELY feel any airflow like a butterfly passing by or something. And once I back up even just a few inches, I can feel no airflow on me at all. Unfortunately, that's the "silent" speed.

If you have enough ambient noise around, this probably won't be too bad since it may be drowned out. But in my office there's no noise other than the fan, so it is very grating after a while.

All in all, not a great alternative to me for an office fan. Looks like I'll probably be returning it as it just doesn't do the job I want a fan to do.

Exceptional machine, beautifully built, exceptional operating parameters.

I use this as a night stand fan, the dial type dimmer control allows infinite control over the air output, something not found in traditional fans. This alone makes this fan unique and very desirable, It allows you to comfortably direct the fan and set it exactly where you like the output...excellent in the bedroom in this size.

Very quiet and soothing white noise, smooth breeze like output and zero chop in the delivered air.

Like any consumable, one can spend less, but the unique functionality and control make this fan not only worth the premium price, but actually a very good buy...what price exceptional comfort?

Think about the price of an automobile, you can spend $18,000. to $80,000. on a similar everyday four door sedan, both do the identical job, point a to b, so what then is the variable? Same thing here.

For starters, I'll make note of what motivated me to buy this Dyson AM01 table fan. Notice the key words "motivated me to buy" -I don't think it's quite fair of so many reviews that I come across, and especially this particular fan, where so many reviewers haven't even purchased the item they're reviewing!

Ok, so I chose this particular fan because, number 1, I didn't pay full-price; number 2; it was a table fan; number 3, it was the only fan I was aware of that used a dimmer switch to control the airflow; number 4, no blades (at least visible); and number 5, because it is a good-looking fan;

So, I'll now touch upon these points, which for me, are the pros of the fan:

1) Price -I bought a Dyson-factory refurb on Woot for 1/3 the price.

2) Table fan -As far as table fans go, it is on the larger size of what I was looking for to be used on a large office desk. It does take up a bit of space, but it is stable and fitting on a large desk.

3) Dimmer switch -This is a very nice function and one that sets apart the Dyson from other table fans. It's nice to be able to dial airflow speed, versus the standard 2-3 speed options on most table fans. I'm not aware of another fan that has it.

4) No blades (at least visible) -This is another great feature, and the key design appeal of the fan, for me. But, it is also the key area of somewhat misleading advertising by Dyson. After reading reviews from engineer types, this fan does indeed have blades, which are hidden in the base of the unit. I have not opened my fan to look, but I'm taking their word on it. The fact that the fan functions this way is of no deception at all, but with Dyson's marketing of "no blades" it is misleading. Even so, this issue aside, the manner in which the air flows through the circular opening, from the true fan below ;D, it does feel more pleasant than your typical fan.

5) Good-looking design -This is one good looking fan. The blade-less look, the shape, the color, make it a really unique fixture.

1) Price -Hands-down, the fan is way too expensive and by far the biggest con. Even half-off of retail is too much.

2) Air-flow -As other reviewers have stated, the air-flow is simply under volume for a fan of this size. One would assume that the 10" circular opening would be suggestive of the volume of air-flow, just like with a standard fan, but that circle is solely for design purposes and the air flow is dependent on the internal fan below.

3) Noise -It's not over-whelming but it is quite noisy.

4) Blades -The fact that this blade-less fan has blades is misleading. Once again, I assumed too much, but I thought the term "air-multiplier" meant something besides a hidden fan.

In conclusion, the design of this fan is its greatest attribute. It's aesthetics are second to none, as far as fans go. The dimmer switch and the unique manner in which the air flows out are all part of its great appeal. But, with an insane price, sub-par air-flow and noise, and misleading advertising, this is purely a novelty item, not a common appliance. But, if you have an interest in an item like this, and know what to expect, AND you could find a refurb, I could actually recommend this fan. I don't think that is contradictory to my 2-star rating, considering I'm reviewing a fan, not a novelty item.

The commercials, description, price and brand name had me expecting the best fan I have ever had... What I got was a normal fan for a high price. Basically you pay for the fan to look modern i.e. no blades. I hope the electric bill goes down, but the cooling power of this fan is very poor for the price. Probably my last Dyson anything.

We use these fans in the nursery and living room, ever since our son became fascinated with our old regular fan. Now we do not have to worry about his fingers getting hurt. It is very light, so nobody will get hurt if it tilt over. Not to mention it is more quiet than our other fans.

After searching on line for a side table with lamp attached, I chose the Leick table. It was more expensive than 2 others I was considering but I really liked the look of this table. It looks great, but the construction of the lamp attachment is very poor. The instructions to put the table together were not that good. The instructions for the lamp portion consisted of a picture with numbers. Very poorly done. it seemed that a piece to keep the lamp stable was missing. I e-mailed the Leick contact to Check on this and a prompt reply told me how to finish the construction. I followed the instructions to the letter, but the lamp is still unstable. I wrote them back inquiring about any missing pieces, but got no reply. I wish I had bought one of the other tables at 1/4 the price.

Solid construction, easy assembly, this was the perfect fit for the space. The wood finish matches the other pieces in the room, and was true to the photos on the internet warm tones and not too dark.

Just put it together yesterday not too difficult but the directions are pretty scarce. Be aware that the clip that holds the lampshade base in may be filled with chunks of metal and your clip wont go in took a while and a good flashlight to determine this problem.

It looks good, but is China quality. The drawer stop is a piece of flexible plastic. The shelf is held in place by four metal push pins much like what is used in bookshelves and the force of the legs pushing against it. I think it is sturdy, but seems expensive for the size.

I like the side lamp table, it slide into a narrow space and provides the light for reading that I need. I do think that the item is overpriced for the size of the table. It does what I want it to do, so overall I am happy with the purchase. When the two tables arrived one of the lampshades was crushed, but the product was replaced right away without question and I was very happy with that.

This was my 20th Anniversary gift from my husband.. I'm very pleased with it.

It's make of nice solid wood and I like the color too.

My husband said he was very upset with the instruction it was not clear on how to put it together ..But he did get together and I'm just glad he didn't send it back..

I have had this light for about two weeks and I really love it. I replaced a clip on light with a single bulb that started having problems maintaining brightness and the flex arm was starting to droop.

This light has a much sturdier flex arm and being able to vary the light intensity is a very welcome addition. The old single bulb light worked pretty well with my Kindle but with print books I was constantly repositioning the head to get light where I needed it. This new light has multiple bulbs controlled through a dimmer and provides a good lateral spread of light. That means that once I clip the light into position I don't have to move it again. Even though there is a good spread on the light pattern it does not intrude into my bedmates area and distrub or keep her awake.

In addition to the clip the lamp has a sturdy and flat enough base that it may easily be used as a "table" lamp. I have taken it into the bathroom in the middle of the night and it provides sufficient light that there is no need to blind myself by turning on the overhead lights.

It is a simple but extremely well designed multi-purpose light that will easily fit many functions.

I use this light at my DJ shows to help put a spotlight on one thing but not draw attention away from the show. The light brightness is variable which made it a perfect fit for me. After doing alot of research to keep from buying a light that would just break after the first use, I feel I bought the perfect one and I've yet to have any issues.

This light works well but for me I would like to have the neck be a little shorter. I don't see why it need to be so long. But like I said, it works well otherwise.
