I have been looking for fillable lamps for a while that didn't cost $100 each and were too big. These fit the bill. I was very happy with the quality and looks of these lamps. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is that you have to turn it upside down to fill it then turn it right side up after you have reassembled it. That might work fine for some things but with the sand, shells and sea glass I put in there I had a hard time to get the shells to be on top of the sand when I turned it back up.

I have had my dried wedding flowers for well over a year and couldn't think of what to do with it. My light bulb moment was coming across this fillable lamp. The bottom unscrews and you can put whatever you want in there. My flowers all fit in there a petal at a time. The lamp itself works very well and the lamp shade looks very nice.

The glass on the base of the lamp is Very thin and filling from the bottom is hard. I used small seashells in the lamp and they cracked the glass when turned right side up. The lamp is pretty, but not much you can put in it. Not worth it. Moontree works fillable lamps are more expensive, but definitely worth the money.

The plastic attachment device to affix the lamp often breaks when tightened. If you don't tighten it enough the lamp is unsteady. This has happened several times over the years with Alvin swing lamps and is the result of supplying and using a supposedly hardened plastic attachment rather than one made of steel. Be prepared to drill a hole or otherwise jerry-rig some other method to mount this lamp. It is a great lamp when it works but getting it mounted is sometimes a problem and is the result of the cheapening and plasticization of many products.

The Alvin lamp; and other brands, but especially Alvin have been around about as long as I can remember, and I am going on 66. I used these lamps for all of my 40 year work carrier as first, a drafter (yea, I actually drew with a pencil) and then into graphics and CAD, but this lamp was always around.

Because of this 40 years (and now more) I can give you a few hints about its use and misuse.

First, do not yank the lamp around like its a garden hose; parts will break.

Second, mount the lamp where you have proper clearance in the directions you plan on moving the swing arm.

Third, move the lamp to the position or general area you will most likely use it the most and then do your

adjusting.

Fourth, (and this is a little secret) you can use the cord as leverage at the lamp head by pulling some of the

cord back through the swing arm assembly and in doing so this will help hold up the lamp head and not put all

the strain on the tightening screw (which is plastic). This (besides the main plastic clamp) is one of your two main stress areas.

Fifth, loosen the middle screw more than the others and the swing arm will flex much better and you will let the

springs do there jobs.

And lastly, Yeh, the friggin clamp is made of plastic; if you can't live with it, drill a hole in the desk and

shove in the post.

I do have at least 4 or 5 of the old metal clamps laying around this place and I guess it would be a good time to go find one.

I bought this lamp for a dorm room, where my desk is under my bed. It fits my needs perfectly. It clamps on (the clamp can be mounted on a sideways plane) the support brace for my bed, and is highly articulate. It's also very steady, if you tighten down the screws, and doesn't droop too much if tightened. My one problem with this lamp is that it has the tendency to droop slightly if not tightened, and the clamp may wear out (but is probably replaceable.) If you're looking for a cheap swing arm lamp that still looks professional, look no further!

I have owned two of these lamps now. I bought the first one and was initially impressed by the flexibility of the lamp it swivels and it turns quite well and, as such, it appeared to be a perfect desk lamp for those that occasionally require more light than at other times. You can flick it on and pull it into place (say, for spotlighting a book you're reading) and then you can push it back out of the way easily again. So, due to this initial experience, I decided to buy a second one (as a reading lamp for the bedroom).

However, now both of these lamps are broken. The reason is simple: the plastic fixtures which connect the lamp to the desk are just too brittle. I made the minor mistake of turning the lamp in a direction that it is supposed to be able to turn in and, suddenly: POP the fixture snapped in two!

And today, Lamp Number 2 went the same way of the Dodo I was trying to turn the lamp around, so I could illuminate a document and POP the same cheap plastic fixture gave way with almost no pressure having been applied to it whatsoever.

Thus, I'm in the market for a new desk lamp and, despite everything else about this lamp being really rather good, I fear I simply cannot purchase another one of these lamps, due to the inevitable POP (and mourning period) that will follow shortly thereafter.

I would not recommend purchasing this lamp UNLESS you do not wish to swing the swing arm. Ever. (Seriously do not touch the swing arm: then everything should be fine).

Otherwise, avoid or, prepare for a POP.

However, my resourceful sister (niece's mother) gently took a hair dryer to it and solved that problem (the inner shade lining is made of plastic). I let my sister and my niece try to assemble it themselves. They had just a little problem properly snaking the electrical cord through the base, but otherwise it was straightforward. So, just a little mechanical aptitude would be helpful during assembly.

It looks good, everything fit well enough (the lampshade was tilted a little, but that should be easy to adjust), and I'm sure the two drawers are perfect for hiding away favorite items.

I think this would make a great "just because you're you" gift for any young girl.

The lamp comes in a box and some light assembly is necessary. Assembly is very easy and intuitive but be warned that it doesn't correspond to the assembly instructions included with the lamp (which shows extra parts).

You'll need to be extra careful removing the plastic overwrap from the lamp shade. While doing so, I accidentally put a "dent" in the shade, which is listed as a "TC Fabric Shade." TC stands for Tetron Cotton, essentially 65% polyester and 35% rayon. The shade feels more like a rigid paper than fabric, which is why I was able to accidentally put a dent in it.

I was pleased they included a 60-watt equivalent CFL bulb with the lamp. When the lamp is assembled and the bulb installed, the lamp seems nice and bright. I was also pleased to find an inline on/off switch.

The base of the lamp contains two little drawers that slide out. That extra tiny bit of storage was put to good use in my case.

Overall, I like the quality of this lamp. It is sturdy and well made. My granddaughter loves it. I wish the shade was a softer fabric, like a normal / typical lamp shade, but it is fine as long as you don't mash it when removing it from the box or assembling the lamp.

The jewelry drawers open. The bottom drawer is removable however the top drawer does not come out. It opens only partially. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the quality of this lamp.

The shade softens the light yet lets much of it through. It is very attractive when lit. My only concern is that the ac cord is fixed in the base and at the light socket. This means that the cord gets twisted and stays twisted 5 or 6 times around while screwing the socket to the base. It's probably nothing to worry about, twisting the cord like that.

I have been searching for a nice LED lamp to illuminate my late night studies for a while now. I wanted a lamp that was bright, environmentally friendly, and aesthetically pleasing. This lamp was everything I was looking for and much more! The base is heavy and wide enough for stability, yet still small enough to fit on my small desk. The touch sensitive buttons are responsive and gives the lamp some cutting edge technology flavor. The light can be rotated 180 degrees and can be bent at two points. This gives the lamp a lot of room for light angle and height adjustment.

The four light types are an excellent touch. I personally love the reading light for my late night study sessions. It gives you a sense of daytime and helps keep your focus up. The math light is slightly blue and very bright, which is perfect for crunching some numbers or drawing organic chemistry reaction mechanisms. The relaxing light is very warm and gives you a mellow feeling. I also love how you can adjust the light intensity in addition to the light type. This gives the lamp much room for adjustment for those of us who are extra picky about light sensitivity. The 1 hour auto-off (sleep)button is also a nice touch. When the lamp is folded down, you can use the night light mode and it works fairly well.

My only small gripe with this lamp is that it is made out of a hard plastic. While very nice looking and light weight, I would have preferred some sort of metal plating to make it feel its price.

Overall I am very pleased with this lamp and might buy another one in white for my sister's room.

UPDATE: March 13, 2013. This lamp is still working almost 16 months later and I am very happy that I purchased this lamp for my late nights of studying. All the LED's are still functioning and the touch sensitive controls are still working just fine.

This a a review of the Softech Diasonic DL-90 LED Desk Lamp. First off here's a more complete list of it's specs.

The lamp has a base that is about 172mm square. The main arm with the light array is about 350mm long. The supporting arm is about 450mm long with both arms about 42mm wide.

The LED array consists of 27 LEDs in 9 rows spaced approximately 25mm apart. There are 3 LEDs in each row. The center ones are very warm yellow and the two outer rows are intense white, bordering on slightly bluish at their brightest setting. A frosted diffuser protects them from prying fingers and also helps to distribute the light more evenly.

Different color temperature settings can be achieved by varying the intensity of the white and yellow LEDs in different combinations. In Bedtime mode only the yellow LEDs are on producing a very warm yellow light of about 2300K (Kelvin). In Relaxtion mode the yellow LEDs double their brightness compared to the Bedtime mode, but with the white LEDs on as well which results in a brighter, whiter light of about 3300K. Reading mode dims the yellow LEDs slightly and increases the brightness of the white ones producing the type of daylight white one would see on an overcast day at midday, about 5500K. Study mode reduces the output of the yellow LEDs to their lowest brightness while simultaneously increasing the brightness of the white LEDs. This produces the brightest and whitest light. A very intense cool light, bordering on slightly bluish, which looks to me to be about 6500K to 7000K.

The approximate brightness at the lowest setting, about 400mm distance from the lamp, in the various modes is about:

500lux in the Reading mode

600lux in the Study mode

300lux in the Relaxation mode

50lux in the Bedtime mode

The brightness level increases by approximately 150lux for the next two brightness levels and approximately 100lux for the last two levels in all settings. This means that in the Study mode the brightest setting will produce a very bright 1100lux.

The red LED on/off switch is on when the lamp is off and plugged into the wall outlet. It switches off when the lamp is turned on, and blinks on and off once the 60 minute count down timer has been activated.

The main arm can bend only a degree or two backward from its 90° upright position, and about 40° forward. The upper arm which carries the LED array can bend upward about 50° from it's position parallel to the desk it's on. And can bend all the way forward until it's parallel to the supporting arm.

The whole unit can be rotated 90° on its base in either direction from the center position. Unfortunately the main arm with the LEDs cannot be rotated on its axis in order to direct the light either towards or away from you as one can do on the Koncept Light Bar.

In fact my final choice for a decent LED desk lamp boiled down to the Koncept Z-Bar Mini High Power Adjustable LED Desk Lamp Daylight White Illumination Silver and the Softech DL90. I chose the latter due to its greater lighting options, and liked the flexibility of being able to change not only the lamps brightness, but also it's color temperature to suit both my mood and needs.

I love the fact that LEDs consume so little power for the disproportionate amount of light that they produce. While it's true that they are much more directional than both incandescents and CFLs, Diasonic have designed their diffuser well as this results in a 1.5 meter circle of light around the base that is obviously brighter at its center, but still quite usable up to the edges.

As mentioned above, the only negative of this lamp is that the LED array can't be swiveled on its axis. All in all, even with that small negative, I am very happy with my choice and recommend this one very highly to anyone looking for a decent and flexible LED desk lamp.

This lamp has great options for getting exactly the color and intensity of the light you want, but you cannot rotate the bar with the LEDs to point the light towards the page and away from your eyes. You can swing the bar up and down, but you cannot rotate it. This makes it very hard to avoid the harsh glare of the LED bulbs.

Also, a USB port on a lamp is a great idea, but the USB port only provides 0.7 amps, so iPads and smartphones will charge very slowly (the Apple iPad charger is 2.1 amps).

This lamp is great overall! It's very adjustable in terms of shades of lighting and lighting intensity. It also has many positions to place the light in a great spot, with one exception. The arm that houses the LEDs is unable to rotate or swivel in a fashion that allows the user to aim the LEDs away from one's field of vision. In terms of not causing glare on your reading material, it's awesome; but forget worrying about having glare on paper when you have the LEDs themselves lighting up your eyeballs! It's similar to having a lamp without an adequate lamp shade, or walking outside on a sunny day in San Diego without sun glasses. This issue may be resolved by extending the roofing of the LEDs downwards by 1/4" or so, or just allowing the bar of LEDs to swivel away from the user's line of sight.

My suggestion to improve this product: Include an add-on piece to the lamp that extends the roof of either side of the lamp. That way, it would act similarly to using a visor when driving in a car. It doesn't need to be a giant visor, just a piece that can extend the roofing about 1/4" 1/2". This doesn't require redesigning the shape of whole product, just a few notches to slip in the visor.

I have adjusted mine to lean and angle lower than my line of sight, but this is somewhat of an annoyance if I need to use my computer at the same time because the lamp is now obstructing my vision to the computer monitor. If you have a higher sitting desk, or if you're sitting lower than the height of the lamp, the LEDs can be an irritant as they can be intense on the peripheral vision.

Aside from this single gripe (which can be made for almost all lamps), this particular lamp is sleek and the touch control pad is responsive. I enjoy all the different shades and intensities of light and I'm the type to be very picky about lighting. Good lamp.

I'd buy it again (currently $149.99) considering the quality of the lamp and how long it's supposed to last. It is mostly plastic, but that's fine. It's not like I need it to hammer anything it's glossy, sleek, and stable, while most importantly, its main function does a beautiful job of lighting up my study material.

Edit:

After a bit of use, the flaw in this lamp isn't as bad as I made it out to be. Depending on the lamp placement and angle, the position is sufficient for my needs when studying at my desk. Having the lamp set beside my monitor and with the arm pointing towards me, but angled down, the LEDs are blocked from sight and my study material is lit up enough. Although, because of this position, there is some glare along the curve of my textbook. I'll upload a picture to give you a better idea (although the glare is not visible on camera weird!).

I also noticed that after many hours of studying, one color of lighting can give me a headache if I'm studying with no other additional lighting in the room. I just switch from math mode to reading mode and it gives my eyes a soothing feeling. Awesome! Loving my investment ;)

To Softech: I still recommend extending a roofing piece so that the LEDs could be aimed at the reading material without irritating one's eyes.

I just got my Lamp a month ago and I love it! I spend alot of time working at my lap top and reading in bed. I have always been sensitive to office lighting and the different levels of light this lamp provides don't bother my eyes at all.

I live in NYC and our winter has been terrible and dreary. Since I have been using my new lamp I swear I'm in a better mood. I read something on their website about it being just like sunlight, and I believe it. You can change the brightness and warmth, by using an ipod like circle but the circle does not allow me to turn it off that way so it is frustrating.

I thought this Bulbrite would have a row of lights under the arm, similar to the Lightblade, but it is just one light at the end of the arm, and it does not spread light across my work area like I had hoped. It also does not get as bright as the Lightblade. That may not have been an issue but since I have them side by side I like the options of the Lightblade more.

The body of this unit has a light and cheap plastic feel. Not sure how the $80 price can be justified.

Since the price on this is pretty high, I would expect more from it and so I only give it 3 stars. If it were $25, then I would give it 5 stars.

What a perfect light. Reading or night light and everything in between. Swyvel it down for a nice reflection off the wall or tilt up for reading and other tasks. The touch sensitive switch in the base is very intuitive and easily actuated.

I'm using it as a table lamp in my bedroom, and wanted something sleek, energy efficient, dimmable (nice bright light when full on) I got it all, it's pricey alright, but I'm really happy with my purchase, seems sturdy, couple of cons: the base plastic surface is a fingerprint magnet, but not such a big deal for me, I would have liked the switch lights to be probably blue (they're red), but the switch is nice and very responsive, design wise is very nice looking, swivels nicely, haven't tried out the USB port, but is a nice addition to help unclutter my table and free up an outlet, really satisfied with this lamp

I bought two of these swing-arm lamps with fabric shades: one with gold shade, one with silver shade. Some of the photos show shade-color much more saturated than they really are (not true to form). The gold color is a SUBTLE (not saturated) color, giving the area a summery, friendly glow. The silver color is also a SUBTLE (not saturated) color, giving the area a wintry, icy glow. Neither glow is better than the other, because summer and winter are both necessary; it depends on the room you're putting them in. In a warm room, put the silver. In a cool room, put the gold. I happen to like the gold better than the silver in all cases.

I think I figured out what "pin-up" refers to. Pin-up means the shade is NOT attached to the lightbulb. You definitely want pin-up. The alternative of pin-up, I think, is "clip-on" where the shade clips directly onto the lightbulb (a horrible design).

The lamp itself is attractive and sturdy, within the range of quality and style that I was looking for. The price of $34 is unbeatable. I searched high and low for cheap $, and $34 was the cheapest I could find that had an olden-days look. I found cheaper but the lamp was either solid-white or solid-black with yucky white paper or corrugated shade, all of which I detest.

Overall, very nice. When I'm in the market again, assuming this lamp is still available, I'll buy more.

I bought 2 of these things, they are very small, but also very BRIGHT. We used them at a few proms, and had to actually turn the brightness down on them because they lit up the room. When hung upside down, they stay within the dance floor area, so they're not in your face.

I purchased three swing arm lamps to use at my jewelry booth during a recent craft fair. The lamps are compact and easy to install. The only negative is that I needed plyers to tighten the plastic bolts when adjusting the angle of the lamps (they are hard to tighten). One of the plastic bolts broke. However, this did not affect the usage as the metal bolt underneath still holds the lamp in place.

It works. The base clamp isn't as sturdy as it needs to be for such a long arm so you have to be careful. You get what you pay for (I think I paid ~$8).

I purchased this lamp because of the long lasting Halogen lamps and the ability to dim the lights when necessary. I do a lot of video editing out of my office and needed a light that would not affect the color temperature of the screen but did not want to spend the money for an electrician to come in and run track lighting. This lamp did everything that I needed it to. When I received the unit one of the glass globes was broken but after speaking with Customer Service they sent a brand new light the next business day. Since then i have not had any issues with the light. One thing to be aware of though when purchasing this lamp is that in the Product Features, it states that it "Requires 1 x 40 Watt E27-socket A-type bulb (not included)" which is actually not needed. other than that the information is correct. 6 Halogen lamps are provided for the unit and 5 glass globes. Hope this helps in your purchase of this lamp. I would recommend this lamp and maybe buy another one if I needed.

The Page by Page Lamp is one of the best novelty items you can buy for the price. It seems pedestrian a lamp in a book but when have you ever seen something like this before? The lamp comes with two color filters, five pages of drawings, and five blank pages for your own indulgences. The light can be stood up or hung up and looks great. It really brings a nice hue into the room and can lighten up the atmosphere. There was a lot of ingenuity used to build the lamp; instead of using a lever, you can turn the light on and off by pushing it in. The light is strong and seems to be very durable. I really enjoy the lamp because it is creative and novel. In my opinion, it would serve as a palatable gift for others.

A few things to note:

The second page has instructions (12 pages overall; 1 for cover page, 1 for instructions, 5 for graphics, 5 for drawings). I skipped over it and was confused for a bit. I thought I broke the light but I just pressed the lamp by mistake and it clicked off.

It doesn't come with a wall adapter but I just use my iPhone one (I have a spare one).

The filter to change the color for the lamp doesn't fit perfectly and annoys me at times. However, it is still suitable for changing the color if you don't stare at it all day like me.

Edit: I actually didn't read the instructions properly (twice now). The filter mentioned above needs to be inserted in a thick back page to stay in place rather than being tucked in behind the light. Whoops.

I really liked this product. When I ordered it, I showed it to my dad and he was duly intrigued by it. He thought it was pretty cool I have to admit that he's right.

The lamp in itself is an interesting idea, but nothing more than a bookshelf novelty. As noted by other reviewers, it doesn't come with a USB adapter to plug it into, and the lampshade is lacking in the design area. The lampshade doesn't fit behind the actual light, and if it is put behind the other pages it droops awkwardly. Overall it's an interesting idea but falls short of being something that I would want to buy.

This product makes absolutely no sense. I was given a free "lamp" by the manufacturer in exchange for an Amazon review. Thanks but no thanks. The package included a large notebook and a usb cord. There was suppose to be an AC adapter in the box but there wasn't, in other words, there was no way to use it. I used one from another electronic I had and then I plugged in the lamp waiting for something spectacular to happen. That is when the disappointment set in. I became depressed because this awesome lamp I waited for was just a notebook with a light on it. The "lamp" gives off no light and the pages are really stupid. Now I'm pissed.
