Too bad for Bulbrite and Amazon that the author of the the only other (2 star) review doesn't know the difference. This is a nice lamp. It's nothing like a lamp you would pay $59 for at Target or Walmart. It has good reach, it appears to be well made, and has great design aesthetics. I LOVE the fact that it offers plenty of light with the energy saving and cool-to-the-touch benefits of an LED bulb. At $150, I wouldn't call it a bargain, (I paid less) but I shopped a little and think it compares well with lamps of similar pricing. The free shipping is not for those on a schedule. I think Amazon put it in a backpack and handed it to someone hitchhiking to my city. It was s l o w and the response to my inquiry about it was lame. All things considered, I'm happy with the lamp.

The LED technology works exactly as advertised. I went out to my local office supply stores but this product is not carried; too pricey for many as halogen is still available for a bit less. My halogen had failed (heating issues) and a friend recommended LED as it is really safer that halogen so I gave it a shot. I am happy.

I wanted a high quality lamp that has the ability to position light where I need it without falling over or breaking. This lamp does the trick, it can be postioned up high, down low, out far, etc. The base is quite heavy and keeps it from falling over. The articulating arm is all metal yet light and well made. The light consumes only 7 watts and should last basically forever. I use it for a work bench lamp where performance is more important than esthetics. My experience with lamps like this is that little stuff usually goes wrong like the switch breaking or the light socket wearing out, or the arm breaking, etc. This lamp appears to be pretty bullet proof and should last a very long time. I was hoping the light output would be a little brighter, but it's still plenty bright enough to read by and when positioned near an object, provides plenty of light. Light output is probably equivalent to a 50W incandescent. The other thing I wish it had was brightness control, it only has on and off. It's a nice lamp though and I'm sure the $150 I shelled out for it will be long forgotten and in the noise in a year or two while it continues to perform.

I haven't found a better desk lamp for anywhere near the money (when you can find these on sale, anyway!). This one puts out a usable amount of light (I don't know if it's equivalent to a 100W incandescent, but at least a 35W halogen) while producing very little heat, so you don't have to worry about burning your hand when moving the head around. But perhaps even better is the articulating arm that is a useful length, allowing you to place light where you want it. There are dozens of inexpensive "architect-style" lamps with arms that LOOK like they allow the head to extend, but actually offer rather limited reach. This lamp, however, is the real deal. Sure, it's a little expensive, but not when compared to what a similar Humanscale lamp would cost...

Negative 5 stars if that was possible. This lamp is way over-priced, very poorly made and pathetically "designed". It is badly constructed out of cheap materials--mostly thin stamped sheet metal covered by a fake chrome plastic tube. An expensive lesson in bad. I was shocked at how badly made this lamp is for the cost. This is difficult to tell from the product photos--the poor joints and details are not apparent even with the zoom, but they stand out on the product out of the box--I put it right back in. It does not come close to the mythical "$59.00 Target Lamp" mentioned in other reviews--don't know what these people are thinking. I have 15+ years in the product design and manufacturing world, I have designed, built and evaluated many lamps among other things, so I feel confident making these comments. Save your money for something better--buy the Target lamp...at this price, you could afford two!

Reviews of Architect Style Clamp-On Base Desk Lamp

In order to get some idea of where the Architects' Desk Lamp sits in the quality spectrum we first should look at the bottom of the food chain in this market. You can get a typical surprisingly-cheap task lamp from OfficeDepot for around $12 and feel frugal as you wonder at how much you can buy nowadays. If you never touch the thing, it will last nearly forever as the one in my Dogs den/work-space with a CFL bulb and auto timer has. But once you've even breathed on it, it will self destruct within months of that day you thought you were being so smart and price conscious.

This lamp then is a very real step above Mr. Frugal's folly. The caveat being that step is a singular one. The basic construction such as springs, connections and shaft are the same, probably interchangeable in fact. Improvements are in the "touch points" such as friction knobs, head joint assembly, switch and power knob as well as bulb shroud. Just the places the junk lamps fail.

Now lets compare the Architects' to a Tolomeo Classic. Is the Architects' Lamp worth a tenth of the Classic? Not if you care about Product Design or Design Integrity. But if you need something that works and will last longer than the light bulb installed in it, this is your lamp. But please, do buy it on sale if you can as it is still in the category of cheap things.

If you buy a lamp like this, make sure you buy one with a sturdy metal clamp; plastic ones break, sooner or later.

Like another reviewer, I picked one up as an impulse purchase at a local hardware store (Ace) and I am so impressed with it. I live in a hurricane zone and have several elderly relatives and neighbors now on walkers or rollators. I'm going to order lanyards (good price here: http://www.amazon.com/GBC-BadgeMates-Breakaway-Lanyards-3747213/dp/B003FEYLSK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3BUIKXE4IKHPC&coliid=IL2NY40CX2LTM) so that these can be clipped around their neck and they can easily negotiate the house during a power outage. The beam that this casts is brighter and wider than the headlamp-style, hands-free lights that are easily twice the price. My only concern for this particular use is that the on/off button might be a bit stiff for my 90++ year old cousin. We'll see.

Kitchen Trial: The pen-style clip on the flashlight is magnetized, so I stuck it high on the refrigerator and it more than lit the kitchen (maybe 8' x 12'?), but was too bright if you turned toward the refrigerator. So I put it on top of the 'fridge facing the ceiling, and still had enough light to operate by.

In short: great all-purpose flashlight,small enough to fit into the small purse I carry but bright enough to easily light a whole room. For some reason I'm a bit of a flashlight/lantern collector, and this will no doubt become THE flashlight I use. It's the first I've found that both fits easily in a purse or glove compartment AND can be a primary flashlight for extended outages one might endure from hurricanes, blizzards, etc.

These things are great. I've been carrying. Surefires for years because maglight were not bright enough but couldn't stand the cost of the batteries any more. These are handier. And take tripple A's. I bought one at the local gas station and came to Amazon to buy a half dozen more

I was given this flashlight as a gift, and I am really enjoying it. It is not much bigger than a thick ballpoint pen at 6.5 inches long and weighing only about 4 ounces. It comes in multiple colors, but red is my favorite. It is a bright, clear red, very attractive.

This flashlight takes three AAA batteries, which are included, and it comes with a one-year limited warranty. Though this is often sold as a handyman light, it is a great flashlight for anyone, especially to keep in a car glovebox for emergencies or in one's purse. It contains eight powerful LEDs that provide 60 lumens of bright, white light. It has a rotating magnetic clip that can clip in your shirt pocket, pants pocket, or on a belt, or it can be clipped to almost anything if you need hands-free lighting. The plastic body of the light is of strong, reinforced plastic which is both shock-proof and water-resistant. The manufacturer bills the Larry as practically "indestructible."

If you're looking for a present for "secret Santa" at work, a stocking stuffer, or a small gift for almost anyone, this is a great pick. It might not be a good choice for a young child, though, because it is a very strong light that should not be shined directly into the eyes.

EDIT: had it for a while now, and things are going downhill. Now, when I turn it on, I have to bang it against my palm for the lights to come on. Sometimes I get seven lights, sometimes I get all eight. It's a crapshoot, indicative of poor internal connections.

One more star off, it's now worth three stars due to the unreliability.

I'll never know how bright an 8 LED light can be -'cause mine showed up with only seven LEDs working.

It's still bright, but it's the kind of defect that if you bought it at a store you'd take it back and get a replacement. But it's not worth sending back all the way to wherever it came from.

One star off for a 13% reduction in brightness.
