I purchased two of these lamps. I wanted lamps that had a 3-way switch that took 150 watt bulbs. My living room is dark and I wanted something that would be really bright. These are very nice lamps and that shades are a nice shape. The only problem was one of the shades was not packed very well and it arrived crushed in several places. My husband tried to fix it and did, except when the lamp is turned on you can see where it was creased. The second lamp was packed really well and the shade arrived in perfect shape. Overall I'm pleased with this purchase.

I purchased this lamp and another black one for our bedroom. This was a great buy! It is larger than I expected, but it works well for me since I have two different night stands and mine is larger than average; so make sure to review the measurements. The bottom (where the lamp is mounted) is black, but the base is a dark brown with contrast stitching. The shade is very nice and soft as well.

The lamp is not too heavy, but not flimsy either.

Overall, I really like the lamp and definitely recommend it!

We bought two for our bedroom and are very pleased.

Here are some specifics that might help:

The entire lamp (with shade) is 28" tall. The base of the lamp is 10" wide and 4.5" deep. The shade is 15" wide, 10.5" tall and 8.5" deep. (I know that most of these measurements are already listed, but I just wanted to confirm them here.)

Another reviewer wrote that the lamp was larger than expected, but we didn't feel that way. It's exactly the size of the published measurements, and it doesn't look bulky yet it doesn't look flimsy either. It's proportional with our headboard.

A great thing about the lamp is that it doesn't take up much depth on our bedside tables thanks to the shape of the shade. The base of the lamp extends less than six inches from the back of our nightstand. Our old traditional lamps had to be centered on the table and therefore took up more surface space.

The shade is a microfiber suede-like material. The lamp itself has dark brown leather panels with white stitching. (The white stitching doesn't really show up in the photo, but it does in person.) At first we were disappointed that the stitching is white, but now we've grown to like it. We can always stain it darker brown if we want, but we'll likely leave it as is.

The leather looks and feels kind of like nubbly hard-sided vinyl panels; luxurious hand-sewn leather can't be expected at this price. The contrast stitching gives it a more leather-like appearance.

The shade has a nice glow when illuminated, and the tallness of the lamp provides light at a nice angle for reading.

Shipping was great from Amazon as always (we are Prime members, so they arrived within 48 hours) and they were packed very well by the manufacturer.

We are extremely happy with the lamps and they add a lot of style to our bedroom. Highly recommended.

I bought two of these for my bedroom since I was upgrading the furniture set in my new house. These arrived quickly and were a breeze to set up. My fiance and I each took less than 1 minute to unpack and install them today!

Not only was it easy to set up, it looks extremely compatible with our current bedroom set as well. Our bed is made of dark wood with a leather backrest, and I'm glad the materials at the body and base repeats these themes. They rest beautifully on top of our nightstands, and I like how the light does not really come through the shade, but through the bottom and top. They illuminate the ceiling and floors, without being hard on the eyes.

Just be careful about the bulb selection, the product description and technical details can be confusing on the bulb wattage requirements. 100 watts? 150 watts? Incandescent? Aren't these types of high energy bulbs out of style these days??? Anyways, I used an energy saving 11-watt bulb and it provides enough lighting for my bedroom at this moment at night. It doesn't need to be extremely bright, especially for its purpose as a nightstand lamp. I have ceiling lights if I need to light up the whole room.

EDIT: One other thing I forgot to mention, Although my bedroom furniture is a traditional dark wood/leathery theme, I would definitely buy this for my parents too, and they have this white-ivory-ish theme. The lamp's colors seems to make it a great fit for various furniture styles.

This lamp seems to burn through the low setting on 3-way bulbs way too quickly. I tried two different brands of light bulbs with the same result. Next, I decided to replace the lamp socket and discovered that this lamp does not use a standard size thread for the pipe. In the long run, it will be less expensive to replace the lamp, so here I am back at Amazon again because I am disgusted with the quality of this lamp. I will expect to pay more for better quality this time.

No timer, you just plug it in (8?) hours before you'd like it to turn on. Then it turned on as bright as could be not slowly getting brighter as expected. Perhaps I have the wrong bulb to make it work correctly, or perhaps not.

I came across Ott products (including a desk lamp very similar to this model) a few years ago and was attracted by the claim that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

I've heard about OttLite lamps and how great they are, but I never took it too seriously after all, what could be so different between my present desk lamp and this newfangled light?

Fortunately, I had a chance to see an OttLite in a friend's office. The light it produces is remarkable.

I ordered one for myself and I'm happy I did. It makes small details easily visible, even for my grandfather's aging eyes.

4 stars instead of 5 because there's not enough weight in the lamp's base, making it unstable. After the lamp fell off the desk a couple of times, I tried a fix that worked -removed the bottom cover (requires a TINY screwdriver) and discarded the almost ineffective ballast included by the manufacturer, and replaced it with one pound of small lead fishing line sinkers. Then replaced the bottom plate.

The fix worked! The base is more stable now. (The 1-lb bag of sinkers cost $4.00 at a local bait shop, but worth it.)

Would I recommend the OttLite to a friend? Sure! I love it.

I bought my first Ott-Lite for a lot more for what they are going for back in the 90's of the last century. I have used this Ott-Lite on an everyday basis for about 15 years. Back then, I was worried about replacing the bulb etc. That same Ott-Lite which I still use every day works as well as the day that I first purchased it. So, I was browsing Amazon looking for a light to go on my dresser and was considering a dresser lamp I saw at IKEA for less. I trust IKEA wholeheartedly, but thought I know Ott-Lite has an outstanding reputation for customer service and quality. I saw this product for a reasonable price and picked it up. I attached some images, and a bill which I focused on using the Ott-Lite. If you want a super-bright light for reading, this is it. Look no further.

After five years my ott lite finally went out and replaced it with this one. This one is about 20% shorter than my original bulb and instead of being white light it looks cool blue. I have a floor model Ottlite and love it it lights up the room like it's daytime. This is a powerful little lamp, but very unfortunately designed. The weight of the shade and light portion is too heavy for the base, and the gooseneck does not hold the light well. In other words, this lamp does not hold position like the photograph unless you perform an incredibly careful balancing act and don't touch the lamp again. That design makes it awkward to use ... and it looks a little cheap. I'd recommend another light if you're buying this brand.

I was not all that impressed with the lamp. It is 'Made in China'. When I think of Made in China items I think of cheap material. Sorry. The quality of the material is not all that spectacular either. I assumed for the price I would be receiving a good quality lamp. The lamp even leaned a little until I played with the top portion of it for awhile. Don't waste your money.

This appears to be a decent option. I am mainly using it to park in the window so I can use them during power outages. We seem to loose power fairly often, especially during tornado season. This lamp is a good idea and it works, it just does not put out much light by itself--it is like a very dim nightlight. I also purchased a Blackout Buddy. Although it requires electricity to charge, it appears to be a much superior product.

Review of Servus By Honeywell Northerner Series Max Waterproof Boots

I wear a men's size 8.5. These only come in whole sizes. There is no sizing under the Product Description other than for women. Any info. I saw on other Websites said if you wear a half size (in men's) you should go up to the next size, so I ordered a size 9. They arrived today and they are so large that my big toe doesn't reach the textured front part of the boot. I contacted Amazon customer service by chat to see if they had sizing info. I was hoping to use these today and didn't want to exchange for an 8 if they would be too small. The customer service told me to refer to the Product Description which I then told them the Product Description did not provide much information. They then gave me the manufacturer's phone number to call for assistance. I called the phone number and it was for a arts and crafts company called Ranger that doesn't make the boots. I did some Internet searching and found the Website and phone number for Servus/Honeywell Safety Products (the manufacturer, 800-267-6809 servusproductsdotcom). They answered right away. They said a size 8 boot fits a foot up to 9.9 inches long. My foot is just under this, so a size 8 should be perfect. I now have a size 8 coming from Amazon. I'll update when the new boot comes if indeed it is the correct size. Also, if it helps anyone, the customer service said the boots are a "D" width.

Quality-wise, my initial impression is they seem like a very tough rubber boot. The only flaw I see is at the top of the boots where the inside liner meets the outside rubber it is kind of uneven like it was cut with a scissors by hand. Some areas are green rubber, some spots look like the liner and some spots are even and look perfect. I also ordered a pair of boots for my wife and hers look even worse. My only concern is if this will rub on our legs causing eventual pain.

**Update 09-25-13**

The new boots, size 8 still feel pretty big, but I didn't feel like messing around with the return and possibility that a size 7 would be too small. Also, we've been getting a lot of rain, so I really wanted to go test them for my intended purpose which was hiking in a park by us that has been too wet and muddy for regular shoes pretty much all summer. The new boots still had the kind of choppy unfinished look at the top, but I didn't notice it causing any discomfort or affecting the durability. The boots worked awesome for hiking the trails (there is no elevation, mostly mud, sand, foliage and water). I hiked roughly 4 miles on the trails with them and my feet were comfortable the whole time. I always wore a Wigwam pro hiking sock with them and tucked my pants into them. The majority of the trails were under water from a depth of just the boot treads to a few inches from the top of the boot (~13" deep). No leaks at all regardless of the water height or how long I was wading through the water. The trails are so flooded that any normal hiking boot never would have made it (like my Vasque). It is also comforting having a higher boot since there is supposedly water moccasins around. On my first test hike with the boots I came across what I believe was a banded water snake which I thought was a water moccasin at first glance. After days of rain and the water depth increasing, I started using my Leki hiking poles which really helped with balance and navigating the dark, non-translucent water. I would say the temp during my hikes was 80-85F, so like most waterproof things, they can get pretty warm. I went with the sun setting, so the sun wasn't a big factor in heating them up even more. One kind of "duh" moment was the first time I hiked with them when it was raining hard, the rain ran down my pants into the boots a little, but even so it wasn't much water after 4 miles and didn't affect the comfort. These are also great for going out in the yard when it is wet. I've only walked a few blocks with them on cement. It wasn't bad, but I suspect your feet may get tired with extended pavement time. The other thing that was awesome about hiking with them when it is so wet and/or flooded is no one else is anywhere in the park. You have all of the trails and nature to yourself and you see more nature since no one has scared anything away;) Might be time to head to the state parks around the area that will also be flooded...happy trails!

Boot is perfect for working outdoors in wet and dry wooded areas and pasture land. Waterfroof, rugged, protects shins from brush and injury. Much better than cheap, imported "black rubber" boots. I expect these to last for several years and I plan to buy again.

update: october 20, 2013 they are finished. the cracks grew to over an inch each. i got four months use out of these boots. the worst performance of any boot i have tried in recent history.

We were really looking forward to get this lamp. It looks pretty cool when you see it online.

But when we got it we were disappointed. The joints can only be moved in one direction, so you can't really adjust it to your needs.

The brightness, however, can be adjusted but the highest level is actually not really bright enough.

The weight of the lamp is okay; for being somewhat bigger than usual desk lamps, it is not too heavy.

The design was what we expected and looks great. Too bad that they couldn't do a better job on the joints.

When I originally bought this, the description stated the stock was split evenly between green and yellow. To my surprise, I ended up with a pink one. Looks like they have since updated the description to say "Assorted Colors" instead... Not a big issue but not what I expected.

As for the product itself, its great! My only complaint is that in bright sunlight, it shakes so hard that it makes a fairly loud clicking sound similar to an old clock ticking.

The sun jar works as promised . . . sort of. First, the supplied NiMH AA battery is only 700Mh, so it doesn't hold much of a charge. I replaced it with a better AA rechargable battery from Target ( 2200 Mh Enegizer 4 pack for $10.00), and performance greatly improved. Still, as the instructions state, the jar must be placed in direct sunlight to charge. When I leave it outside, it does take a charge well and the light glows brightly all night. But if you simply leave the jar on your windowsill to charge, the results are disappointing the light is dim and lasts only a short while. I suspect that as we head into fall and winter, charging will be more difficult.

Again, the concept of a rechargable nightlight is a good one, and my kids love it. But the battery and the PV charging panel are both undersized for the task. Of course, you can always recharge the battery in a AC charger, but that defeats the purpose of having a rechargable nightlight. The deduction of stars was based primarily on my subjective perception of value. If the Sun Jar were $20, I would give it 4 stars, but would still replace the battery with a new one.

I bought a Sun Jar for a birthday gift for my girlfriend. It didn't work after she left it in a south facing window all day. So, we did a little investigating on the inside and the hot glue gun attached battery pack fell off the circuit board, then the wire connecting the battery to the board broke free from the solder. After playing with it a little while, i came to the conclusion that the rechargeable battery was installed backward and after reversing the battery and holding the wire to the point it disconnected from it finally worked. Instead of returning it, i choose to try to re-solder the wire myself....big mistake because in the process more hot glued parts and poorly solder wires came loose. After finally giving up and making its innards total fubar ,I bought my girlfriend another gift and now I have a nice frosted jar for my change.

The product is a good idea, but the craftsmanship is so poor that I would not recommend this product to anyone.

There are a few solar powered lights out there, most of them for outdoor gardens. The main problem with too many of them, this one in particular, is the cost-cutting cheap rechargeable batteries they come with. When given an average two window sunny summer day exposure, the lamp will glow a pleasing blue light when it gets dark... for about 15 minutes. For the same amount of money, you can get a more effective garden lamp, also solar charged, and if you get one where you can easily replace the rechargable battery (they all always come with the cheapest batteries), you'll get a more useful longer lasting shine from an average sunny day charge. Just don't put the outdoor stand or pole on it and you can use it like this indoor lamp, only for longer than 15 minutes.

Yep, I bought a "sun jar" as a gift for myself and my family. Yes, I placed it in DIRECT SUNLIGHT for at least 8 hours. It fades out after about 10 min. A worthless, useless, and ridiculous purchase. I wasted my money. I hope those who read this take my word for it and don't do the same. A disappointment.

UPDATE:

Forget what I said before. The sun jar came with a rather low level double AA battery from an off-label company. I ended up using a higher level energizer battery and the difference is almost like night and day. Wow. Use a lithium battery and this jar will run long and bright.

OR, get the latest generation of energizer (no I don't work for energizer) rechargeable batteries. I bought a new recharger and new batteries...charged them to their limit, then transferred to the sun jar. It ran for days in my bedroom window.

I recommend this product. Seriously.

BTW: The maker suggests you lift the lid and turn the jar off when not in use. If you are a scatter-brain like me and forget to switch it off to preserve the battery life, no worries. In fact, just letting it charge up then turn on when it gets dark doesn't seem to have any negative effects. At least none that I could tell.

In the end: I recommend getting this for yourself and your family and friends (along with some brand name AA batteries)

I bought the sun jar despite the mixed reviews. Overall, I like it a lot. It casts a very soft yellowish orange glow in my room, which is incredibly soothing and comforting.

However, you really do need DIRECT sunlight in order for this to be lit for extended periods. For example, the first night I charged it, it lasted a good 4-5 hours before dimming, which isn't that bad for a product like this. If you keep it in a windowsill with direct light it'll still work, but not quite as well as if you left it outside all day. My advice is to not spend over 35 bucks for it, and to maybe replace the battery with a stronger one (which is my next step), and you'll have a fun little lamp for your backyard patio or bedroom nightstand.
