Reviews of Mission Tiffany Style Table Lamp

Hey folks bought this lamp becuase I've always wanted an art deco style Tiffany lamp. My grandparents had a few in their 1913 house and I have always admired them. Since I'm very familiar with the real ones I would like to point out that traditionally these lamps were made from leaded glass. hand cut glass and soldered together so to speak with lead. So no two or very few were ever alike. Each one was different. This lamp here, this new one, it's as close as you're going to get. The glass is REAL no plastic as some would suggest giving lesser reviews. At first glance one might assume that it's not well made because of inconsistencies but I believe those to be true to the hand made nature (not sure if these are but they look it) It's a heavy lamp like the old ones were and the thing is solid. You pull on one of or both of the chains and it does not feel like it's going to break. Is it an heirloom piece? I don't know if you can find them on eBay the real ones are still better in my opnion but they have LEAD so you might want think about that. I don't know about the new ones seems not to be lead based on color.

This is a nice addition to the arts and crafts style sunroom. It looks great against the exposed brick wall and casts a warm light, which I'm currently reviewing this product under. The only complaint I have is that the square top screw, which anchors the shade to the lamp body, is a bit abrupt and doesn't transition well from the flat shade top. This is a small aesthetic qualm, but if you have the lamp placed in an area where you are looking down on the top of it, then it bothers me a little. However, for being a relatively inexpensive lamp, this is a minor complaint. The bronze base is very sturdy and looks great....and the plastic shade is a dead ringer for leaded glass

My lamp arrived earlier than predicted and in very protective packaging, though I would have preferred fewer peanuts. Although there were no directions included, the method was intuitive, and lamp went together easily. The shade is just what I hoped for; burnt orange, ivory, mossy green accents. Regular round bulbs showed just below lower edge of lampshade, an effect I dislike. However, I decided to try the newer "corkscrew" long-life bulbs, and they are just narrower enough to be hidden beneath shade! I am using 40 watt in both sockets, which gives nice glow in a rather dark corner. I believe 60 watt bulbs are the maximum that should be used. Also, since sockets are independently controlled, a lower wattage could be used on one side as just a nightlight. I like this lamp so much I may buy another; definitely recommended. Addition January 6, 2012: This lamp is so lovely in my living room that I did decide to buy another for a diagonal corner of same room. I continue to recommend this highly.

This is a beautiful lamp to give you warm lighting for your room. The Shade is rather simple, but casts a beautiful light.

I like the fact also that there are two separate pulls and lights. The lamp takes 60 watt bulbs. If you need, however, task lighting, you may want to look at another lamp, as this is more for adding a warm cast of inviting lighting than a light to read by.

This little lamp is fantastic!!! It is the perfect small size for the top of the bar/counter for which it was intended. I had no problem at all finding a small bulb I believe it was a 7 watt. The colors of the lamp shade and the craftmanship are so lovely! I leave it lit all the time. It is surely meant for ambiance and not reading! It will provide a lovely hue and feeling to any room! Don't buy this lamp. It was much smaller than I expected. I initially decided that I was going to keep it anyway,but now I can't find a bulb small enough to fit it. For almost $100....it's going back.

These are really nice for the money and came packaged well. They are weighted and seem sturdy, not easily tipped. The only reason it's not 4-star is the switch on the floor lamp was bent and unusable, probably happened during packing because the box was in perfect condition. Rather than bother packing them all up and returning them for an exchange, I picked up a new switch/socket and changed it myself.

These lamps are beautiful....but when I received them, the glass base on one of the table lamps was shattered. The packaging was not damaged. Also, the lamps have to be assembled. The directions were relatively simple to understand. We assembled the first table lamp, plugged it in and loved it. However when we pulled the second lamp from the box, we heard the telltale tinkle of shattered glass.

In all fairness to Amazon, they offered to refund 1/3 of the price for the lamps and we could keep them.....send them back and get a new set....or send them back for a full refund. We opted for the refund fearing that we would have the same experience again.

3/9/12: I am lowering my rating to one star for this lamp. While it is beautiful and provides great illumination on the music, the bulbs are impossible to remove. There is not enough room to grasp the bulb and turn it. I wound up unscrewing the whole socket but a wire broke. A relative repaired it but he had to actually break the socket in order to get the bulb out. I wish I had known this before I spent $200 on it. I only partially screwed the replacement bulbs in, just enough so the bulb would light; hopefully this will solve the problem.

3/9/12 afternoon: I am restoring my rating of 5 stars. I contacted the company and I am getting a replacement! Blessings on House of Troy and Amazon!

Just be careful when you change the bulbs; it's best if you have a small fingered person do it. Also they recommended using 130 volt bulbs rather than 120 volt bulbs.

I got this lamp for my grand piano. It's the first piano lamp perfect for my piano. The neck is long enough for the light to sit comfortably over the music. The base is heavy enough that is doesn't tip over. The lamp's switch is on the base and easy to access. Definitely recommend it for your piano.

I gave this a five star rating, although I was really thinking of four and a half stars.

The item arrived quickly, and in good condition, although one bulb cover was broken, despite the bubble wrap, the company quickly sent a new one to replace it at no cost. The item came with everything needed to install it, other than the screwdriver and a hammer, a level, and a pair of gloves(see below). I had the entire thing installed in about 30 minutes. The front forks that hold on the glazed glass can move a little bit, and I wish they were more sturdy--this is the reason for the half-star I would take off. But it is a minor complaint, and because they can move a little, you can ensure they are straight before putting the glass in. The glass holds them completely in place.

The light is emitted by four tiny halogen bulbs (With instructions on the boxes NOT to handle them with your bare hands--have some latex gloves around for installation, or some clean kitchen gloves). These bulbs throw an incredible amount of light, and the frosted glass does an excellent job of ensuing this light reaches every corner of the room, without actually being a blinding light. It has a nice finish, and once it was in place, was quite sturdy.

The installation process involved taking off the back cover (held on by four screws, inset, so they do not really show when installed), install the backplate: This requires two screws being screwed into the electrical box, and two optional screws that can be installed in the anchors. I used both sets of screws. Take the main unit, and connect the wires (there are three, white, black, and ground). They provide covers and a ground screw for each. Put the main unit on the backplate, and replace the four screws to hold it in place. (Note: To ensure it is straight, the two screws that go into the electrical box are able to slide around until tightened. Use a level to ensure they are straight, mark where you want to put the anchors, remove the back plate from the wall, and put in the anchors, replace it, and put in all four screws at this point, using the level one last time to make sure it is straight. If you are worried about the screws popping through the backplate, just use a couple of washers on the two screws going into the electrical box). Now, using gloves, take out the four light bulbs and lightly push them into place. They don't screw in, they just push in. Then, screw the four bulb covers on. Carefully take the glass sheet out, and slide it into place on the three forks. And....turn on your light. Done.

Simple, quick, and a beautiful and bright light fixture!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It looks nice, but on close inspection there are some quality (and quality control) issues.

The base is very heavy (this is good) and the lamp is very hard to tip over. There are two brightness levels that are controlled by a rotary knob. The illumination is fairly directional (straight down) with the illuminated area being about 30 inches across. This provides good illumination of the work area of a desk. Because it is directional, it does not provide much light for the rest of the room. It is not meant to.

My lamp came with a white frosted lens. I would have preferred the green one in the picture. There were many small imperfections in the paint confirming that this is not a high quality product. Also, the rotary knob is cheap plastic and the paint on the knob was not uniform.

It is a halogen light, so it gets very hot, especially on the brightest setting. For a desk lamp, this could be very dangerous and THIS LAMP SHOULD NOT BE USED AROUND CHILDREN.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The thing you'll notice first about this desk lamp is the base. It's giant (nearly eight inches across) not to mention extremely heavy--the base must weigh most of the lamp's six pounds. At least it won't be knocked over easily. The lamp works fine, though halogen gets *HOT* and don't last forever and replacement bulbs are expensive. The "rotary dimmer" isn't really a dimmer; it's a round switch for the two brightness settings: LOW and HIGH. Came with white frosted light, not green as shown in photo. Not sure what "Black Chrome" finish is, but just think of it as glossy black. The lamp is tilt-adjustable in two places (near the base and near the head), although neither can be adjusted single-handedly.

Personally, I think lamps like this are overpriced. Functionality-wise, this seems OK. I'll update my review if anything changes.

It is very durable, heavy enough so that it won't tip off the desk if bumped, and the lighting is great for a small area. My home desk sits about 30 feet from our bed and yet my wife is able to enjoy sleeping all while I am busy working at my desk on the computer. The light does not interfere at all with a computer. The lamp itself is black color and professional looking.

Overall, I do recommend this lamp if you are looking for a lamp for a desk. The lighting itself has two levels and neither are overbearing.

I love this little lamp. I gave one as a gift and just bought one for us. The base is quite heavy, as you might expect with Waterford, and the trim is a nice brushed gold/brass--not real shiny (which is how it appears in the picture). The shade is silky and smooth and more of a taupe color (perfect for us) as opposed to how it looks in this picture which is more of a rust color. The recommended 60-watt energy-saving bulb fit quite snugly into the shade brackets and there's no nut that screws onto the top, so getting the shade level was very easy. It puts off nice, diffused light and seems to have a good-quality switch that's mounted onto the cord. So far, this has been an excellent purchase! Watch the prices/sellers as it seems to vary between a little over two bills on the low end and upwards of five bills on the other.
