This is just what I needed after my darling kitty decided to climb on top of my banker's lamp, knock it over and shatter the glass shade. She's a Maine Coon--read BIG CAT. Doh! It was an engineering challenge to replace the shade because one has to take the socket apart to get the old shade out and the new one in, but I managed to get it done. It fit perfectly and looks better than the the original. Good product.

I finally ordered this replacement green banker's shade after my cat had so nicely jumped up on my desk and knocked the lamp over and of course breaking the shade. I left this lamp sit a long time before I found or even looked for a replacement shade as I knew it was going to be a challenge changing. I got a friends husband to look at it for me and he could not figure it out. So, being a woman not to be outdone by a lamp shade Googled it and gleaned some information but not totally what I needed like "draw me a picture". Finally I just figured it out myself but even then it is such a tight fit that you worry about breaking the new one. Well it is on correctly wired and actually works. Mission accomplished.

I received my light and immediately set it up, or should I say, plugged it in. I noticed right away it was making noise while rotating. I figured after it ran a while the noise would work its way out. It never did, the gears were making a grinding noise and once every rotation there would be a pop. I returned it and got a replacement asap from Amazon.

The second also makes a noise but isn't as noticeable, but its the gears again.

Otherwise the light is cool and makes an impact in a sports room.

I needed this product because three basement lights were all pull-strings, and my kids could not reach them to turn them on and off. Because I put a playroom downstairs, I wanted to give them a little bit more independence. I purchased three of this product because product description said that you could put multiple lights on one frequency. Very innovative!

When I received the product, the installation was a snap. We chose to use the sticky pads instead of the screws. We have found that because of the wireless aspect, the lights down always turn on and off when you click them. They are a bit touchy. Also, they have to be mounted in a place with a clear view to the light fixture (i.e. not around the corner) or this increases the touchiness. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise, I (and my children) are perfectly happy with them.

I purchased 3 of these in the fall of '10 and they have all failed. I am a professional handyman, and while I always recommend the always reliable method of running wire and installing a standard switch, that can be costly. I offer my customers this option as a significant savings, with the caveat that there are disadvantages (batteries that must be replaced, unreliable wireless signaling, and a less-than-solid switch). In years past, I always used Heath's similar product. It uses a 9-volt battery and has proven to be much more reliable. Some of those units, installed 5 years ago or more, are still working. However, as far as I've been able to learn, Heath only offers two channels, meaning you cannot install more than two of these in your house or they will interfere with each other. That has not been a problem until late last year when a customer asked me to install these switches in 3 closets. I used one Heath, and two Carlons, as they have 4 channels. One of the Carlons died within 6 weeks. I determined through switching out the components with the other working light that it was the receiver at fault (the part that screws into the light socket). I purchased the third unit right away to replace the defective one, and sent the defective unit to the company for a refund. They would not give me money only another switch/receiver unit. Great that's like going to a restaurant and getting lousy food and then getting a coupon for a free meal on your next visit. I did receive the replacement unit. Last week, my client called and said both [Carlon] lights do not work. This is one of the originals I purchased, along with the replacement I purchased 6 weeks later later. I measured the voltage on all the batteries and they were all reading about 3.2 volts each (well above the required 6). I have not tested them yet with a working unit but I tried both switches (transmitter) on each of the receivers and nothing works on any channel, so I am guessing it is again the receiver. This is the part other reviewers have said gets very hot (it does). At this point I am recommending that the client put two Heath units in two closets and hard wire the third closet. (By the way, the original Heath I installed at this home is still working.) I will not waste money and time on this Carlon product again. I can pretty much guarantee if you have one that is working, it won't be for long. I do however, recommend a Heath unit. They have been very reliable for me and my clients over the long haul. Just be aware that if you need more than two, they will overlap each other, even at opposite ends of the house the signal is relatively strong.

This product is great, I have only had these in use for a week so far, but they are a real time saver for installation is a snap. It is nice to have the double sided tape along with the screws (a choice on how to mount) included in the package, especially since I have an old house with plaster and latte, and using screws to install can be more of a hassle than it is worth. Also this product is so clearly a quality product, very well made, and I expect it will last a long time. The ability to use four different channels to prevent interferance with other units used in the same vicinity is really nice. Also for a multi light fixture you can put all lights on one frequency, and control from one switch. These devices are working well with my compact florescent bulbs too!(what a plus).

4/11/09 I was asked for more detail, these lights get their power from the socket that they screw into, therfor the lights power source has not changed. The switch for the wall has a small very long life battery in it, I am not sure of the lifetime for this battery, but due to the kind of load, and use it will get I would expect them to last for many years. I am still very satisfied with this product, and would purchase them again in a heartbeat. Money well spent!

4/2/11 Unfortunately these units that I put in my sons room, are no longer working. I believe that the reason they no longer can be turned on or off is due to overheating. They were used in a cieling fixture with glass housings for the lights with tight tolerances to the units, which when the unit stopped switching I noted that the unit was very hot, I think next time I will try this same unit with the glass housing removed to allow better air circulation to maintain temperature and therfore extend the lifetime of the unit. Overall still very satisfied with this device. I think they definately need the air movement though to extend lifetime.

Using this wireless switch for a closet light with a pull chain.

Initially, the switch only worked 7 out of 10 times... until I fine tuned it...

1) Make sure the switch is orientated the correct way to the cover plate...

2) Make sure the top of the switch is up when installed...

3) Make sure the two cover plate screws are tightened enough...

Now... the switch very rarely does not work on the 1st touch.

I would buy one again.

I am happy with the performance of this product.

However, installation leaves something to be desired. The screw holes do not match up with standard wall mount hardware. So you can't just pull an existing switch out, hard wire the light and then throw this switch over it.

We had a place where we needed a second light switch for a three way light effect. So I purchased two sets because you can set them to the same frequency. That is cool.

Also the switch plate they give you does not pull tight against so you get a slight hollow behind look. If you didn't paint all the way to the switch mounting, you can see bare wall behind it.

However, it has been working great.

5 stars for functionality

2 for ascetics.

I had a lamp just like this one in my bedroom for many years...it had belonged to my mom. I actually had a pair of them and when the one died, I started using the other one. It lasted me at least 7 years. When it died, I was heart broken but thrilled to find ones just like it on amazon. Though the design on the panels are different, it is still the same. Also, I used 60 watt bulbs on old lamp but this one says to use 25 watt bulbs (maybe I finally burned out my old one). The bulbs that came with it were like clear night light bulbs, but I went to walmart and found white 25 watt candle shaped bulbs and they are brighter then the ones that came with the lamp. Even though dimmer, I have an overhead light when I need more. This is just perfect for getting up in middle of night or just before settling in for the night. Just find the lamp and touch and on or off goes the light...it's 3 way too which gives you more choices of light.

We bought 2 of these online and were not sure what to expect, but were just glad they were 1/2 the price of similar 'designer' style lamps at a home decor store.

I'll give the 'bad news' first they aren't the highest quality they are made of particle-board type wood, and if you look really closely, the bars don't all line up with the corners of the shelves. But let me say, this is a really minor thing, and unless you look close, you wouldn't think these are low-quality at all.

Now the good news they are beautiful! They have a cool contemporary look, and add a lot to the room. With the shade, you get a soft glow, so they would make good 'mood lamps'. They are full-height floor lamps, and are much better than we expected for the price. If you can get over that they aren't high-end craftsmanship, you'll be very happy with these lamps.

We bought 2 and were impressed with how nice they were for the under-$80 price range, and we ended up buying a 3rd to use as a nightstand/lamp in a newly-decorated monochromatic bedroom.

I agree with the other reviewer that you have to make sure the shorter bars are at the top, this isn't obvious from the directions. It was easy to assemble, though!

Overall, I highly recommend these lamps, unless you have hundreds to spend and can get a similar one of higher quality from a boutique store.

My wife and and I love the look of this lamp, it looks beautiful, and the light is plenty bright for a small/medium size room. The only problem we had was the pull string broke after 3 months. If you check out Target's website, you'll see more reviews stating this. If you buy this, make sure you use a light switch or power strip to turn it on and off cause that pull chain is fragile. I have contacted the manufactuer twice about a replacement, but have been met with just a voice message box and no return calls so far. *9/16/09 update I called again, got a lady named Anna just now, she said they would send a replacement top shelf with the socket and plug for free, I will change my review based on this experience, I will update again as soon as I have the part.

Part came in, works much better now, they've strengthened the pull chain and improved the design, I now love this lamp again. I had to hound the Adesso people to get my replacement part, but they did finally send it free of charge. I'm bumping it up 2 stars.

This lamp is perfect. The photo does it no justice. When you build this lamp make sure you read the directions good. When putting in the top part of the lamp make sure the smaller sticks are the ones on top or else you will have to take the lamp apart. I learned this the hard way because the beige cloth was too small for the top, then I realized the shorted sticks were in the middle. The light looks great in the corner of my room. A nice picture frame looks great on one of the shelves. I recommend this lamp!!!

Pros: Lamp is beautiful and lights the entire room (150W) with a soft glow. Shade doesn't get hot which will be nice this summer. Useful display shelves. Good assembly instructions. No damage during shipment, all the parts were there and delivered on time. Lamp has an Asian influence but goes well with my contempory/Scandinavian theme.

Cons: Lamp is a little rickety but I expected that. Probably not a good choice if you have kids or big dogs. Wish the shade was bright white instead of off-white. Could have used it a couple of inches taller but I suppose that would have meant going to metal construction instead of wood.

All in all, it's pretty, unusual and utilitarian so I'm keeping it.

Bought two lamp shades and placed them on either side of my bed. They look nice, but if I brush up against them, they wobble quite a bit. I suppose it is to be expected that if you have something tall and narrow, it will be unsteady, but I wished they had placed more weight on the base. I may actually nail them onto larger wooden bases for stability, but they do get the job done. Also, they are elegant in appearance and add a sophisticated accent to my bedroom for relatively low cost.

This is the third LED lantern I have bought in the past month following a tornado that hit our neighborhood and knocked our power out. Love the Normande Candle Stick Lamps (purchased 6 sets from Amazon in the past)but this time ordered Antique Brass and Received Brushed Steel finish due to incorrect labeling on back of package. Labeling on front of package was correct. Returned and reordered as advised by Amazon only to receive the incorrect Brushed Steel finish a second time...same incorrectly marked packaging. The packaging is clear plastic so you would think someone would have noticed they weren't Antique Brass before shipping. I give 5 stars to the product but not the quality control. Just kept the Brushed Steel...wasn't worth going through the same frustration a 3rd time.

My Nokia cellphone charger ACP-12U is rated at 5.7V and 800mA, works perfectly with this Ottlite LED lamp. I find there are many used Nokia ACP-12U chargers at my local GoodWill, $1 each. Most cellphone chargers will output ~5.5v, and even higher current. But Nokia ACP-12U comes with a perfect plug for this lamp.

I don't keep rechargeable batteries in it while using a wall plug for the overcharge concerns.

I also removed the plastic grill on those LED lights, to make my lamp brighter. Ottlite should build that grill as diffuser with clear plastic or glass, instead of solid black plastic.

I bought one of these at Office Depot for $19.95. The newer models have a flip up battery cover without the screw. Three of us bought them at the same time in the same store. Two required a screw driver and one did not, so check the back before you buy. There was a manufacture date of Jan 2011 on the bottom of the light that did not require a screwdriver. Give it a few more months and you can probably expect to get a new model when ordering off the internet.

I found the battery life to be longer than others reported as well. One set of batteries lasted all weekend, although the use was not continuous. I would estimate 10-14 hours of use. I did buy regular Energizer Max batteries, so maybe that had an effect.

I will be ordering a Nokia charger (acp-12u) as recommended by one of the other reviewers.

Update: The Nokia charger worked wonderfully as a power source. I paid $3.77 with free shipping here on Amazon on a Thursday and the charger arrived the following Monday. My husband recommended that the charger not be used while the batteries are in the compartment, so I removed them first and had no problems at all. I'm very pleased with the light, charger, and shipping speed.

The 30 LEDs provide a nice bright light. But they suck the life out of the 3 AAA batteries (not included) in a hurry. For this many LEDs, Ott should have used AA batteries. And given how often you are going to be changing batteries, the screwed on battery cover is a really bad idea. Especially since the screw is not captive. There is a jack for a power supply (not included), but if you are going to be tied to a cord, you might as well stay with Ott's fluorescent fixtures. Sorry Ott, not one of your brightest ideas.

I have this new battery operated lamp for 2 weeks. I am ready to return the lamp for these reasons. The required 3 triple A batteries barely last for 2 hours of constant use. I am spending more money on batteries than the cost of the lamp. It is made to be portable however, you must travel with a steady supply of those batteries and a mini phillips head screw driver to open the battery case. On the back of the unit is an input for a charger/converter to apparently plug into AC wall outlet to run the lamp. However, there is no charger with this product and no mention of it in the enclosed operating instructions with packaging. None of the converters I have shopped for in several electrical stores work this lamp. This is very curious. Possibly rechargeable Lithium batteries might work better. I have not tested that option as yet.

As result I do not recommend this item and sadly am going to return it.

The lack of a 4.5v AC adapter is puzzling, not the least because the choice of AAA cells instead of AA cells means the battery life of 3 hrs on NiMH rechargeable cells is 30% of what it could be.

UPDATE: 9/14/2012 Some of the product improvement suggestions were incorporated into OttLite 290089 LED Handheld Task Lamp, White, which makes this one obsolete.

A silly simple recharger and AC adapter could have been designed as a USB power feed, like my Garmin Edge GPS and many other devices. Plug it into the wall, or your laptop.

Calling the LEDs 'Superbright" is insulting to my intelligence. I can Google SSC or CREE and be looking at the lumen specs on all possible LEDs in 30 seconds, so come off it Ott people. I don't want some insulting, idiot label, I want a rating in cold, hard numbers. Give me the Lumens, and stop selling hype.

The batteries are in the bottom of the stand, but why not lower in the foot of the stand? In fact, why not 6 AA cells in the foot, one that has a thinner wedge on the end, so it will slip under a book easily? I'll happily buy the batteries, in fact, I already own them, purchased for other devices. So a foot that is twice as long, very thin in front, and very thick as it passes behind the stand, forming a wedge, and housing 6 AA cells. That should be 30 hrs of continuous power for this device.

I assume the black version performs very badly, as much of the light is focused on the stand, which is at least reflected and therefore put to some good use on the white version, but this masks a more fundamental problem. The light hood is simply too short in length. A 2 or 3 stage light hood should slide out in sections, like sliding cell phones, to telescope out over the task or reading area. There is also no lens to focus the LEDs light.

Once a 3-stage telescoping lamp surface is in the design, it should be possible to turn on each section independently, either automatically, programatically, or with manual switches to put light where you need it, control total light, and the rate of power consumption.

Since I doubt many people would find 30 hours of power better than, say 12 hours, I'd also suggest boosting the light output by 2-3X by using LEDs with a higher LUX. They are readily available now.

Finally, get rid of the stupid screw needed to remove the battery housing cover. Ridiculous. I bought the lamp and batteries at a OfficeStapleMaxDepot store for $19 and had the clerk help me cut the lamp out of its plastic armor packaging, and ditto for the 12 pack of AAA cells. Even she was shaking her head at the stupidity of that design decision.

So why the 3 stars? Because it's useful enough as it is to be pretty handy. It provides a fair amount of high quality light, and the handle would even allow you to hang it over your engine at night in an emergency.

For what is probably a more expensive product, I'd add a 3-500 lumen white flashlight in the base, and a row of 50 lumen red LEDs in the top of the hoop handle as an emergency lamp for automobile use. In earthquake, hurricane, or blizzard country, that would be a killer product, especially with a cigarette lighter charger in place of the AC charger. Throw in an SOS flash pattern and you'd have a great, all around vehicle emergency lamp with days of power running from the vehicle battery.
