I needed this clip on light for the guest bedroom. It has a nice wide clip with allowed me to clip it onto the bookcase head board which is about 3/4" thick. Guests use it to read. I will also say, it is mother proof which means it can be used by people of any age (currently up to 70 years old) and has not been broken by said mother.

The instructions were very poor and it took a very long time to install. We had to go to home depot to get additional screws. Wasted an afternoon trying to put it together and the lights that go in it are very low wattage too.

I would have given 5 stars but removed 1 star due to the screws provided not being long enough. This is my 3rd elegant lighting fixture and all three came with mounting screws that were too short. A quick trip to the hardware store fixed that. I bought the 1 1/2 inch (8-32)screws and used them for each fixture.

This is very pretty and reflects nice rainbows. I kept the large crystal ball off the bottom. It was heavier than the light fixture and I didn't reinforce the junction box. It looks nice without it.

If you do not wish to cut your lamp cord, you may wish to consider this:

Lutron TT-300H-WH Electronics Plug-In Lamp Dimmer, White

It is basically exactly the same thing, but you plug your lamp into it and plug it into the wall, as opposed to splicing the cord-modifying version (above) onto the existing lamp cord.

If you ever may want to use the device with a different lamp, the plug in version would be easier as you would not have to unsplice the device from the existing lamp cord, and then repair or replace the existing lamp cord.

This is a fantastic design. Easy to install. Just clip your wire, insert ends, push down on two buttons. DONE. Life would float by dreamily if all things went this way.

There is no nightlight that I can find.

My only complaint is that I can't find it in black.

What they consider the nightlight, if you go to their website, is the single red led on the front by the slider. It is a light so you can find the dimmer at night. Hence, nightlight.

Yes, you have to cut the lamp cord, but you don't have to strip the wires or do anything other than use a pair of scissors (after unplugging!) to snip the cord, push the ends of the cord into either side of the dimmer, and press down the plungers that grab the cord and automatically make the electrical connection for you. It took less than a minute to install, it feels safe, solid, and secure, and it works great.

This is very easy to install.... Only thing you'll have trouble with is the thick plastic packaging it comes in. I hope to find this dimmer in brown so I can apply it to more lamps.

Simply choose the spot on your cord you want the dimmer, make a straight cut across the lamp cord (no diagonal cuts), push your cut-cord into the dimmer device until it won't go in any further, push the dimmer-tab all the way in until it's flat (level) with the dimmer-back..... Do the same with the other end of the cord.... You'll see 2 tabs on the back of the dimmer that flop around....these tabs obviously have prongs on the other end of them (inside the dimmer casing ) ...these prongs/teeth are what you'll push into the plastic protective casing on your cord-ends. You'll feel it piercing through your cord.... Just keep pushing until the tabs are flat against the back of the dimmer.... This let's you know the prongs/teeth have pierced through far enough to make contact....

Plug the lamp in and give it a try!

You did know to UNPLUG THE LAMP FIRST BEFORE YOU CUT THE CORD .... Didn't you? !!

The light arrived and was missing a few crystals. I contacted the seller for a few replacements and was told "we are only an ecommerce company, we don't have parts". When I pressed them they then said, I was past the 30 days I had (it took me about 60 days before I opened the box and hung the light). They were no help at all. So I called the manufacturer (World Imports) and they ultimately offered to send me a few crystals. I had to push pretty hard though as they wanted to to return the light and reship another. Well, I had the thing hung already. Just a huge hassle. Also, the wire they provide to hang the crystals has to be rigged and bent. I ended up going to Michaels and buying an earring post and made my own. All that being said, I think the light is very pretty especially at $150. The one star is for the seller not standing behind their product.

Best Sylvania 78649 B10 Bent Tip LED Accent Light Bulb Deals

I bought a couple of these bulbs from a local store for a comparable price. I was interested in testing them out in a few niches in our home, including miniature table lamps and the fake candles placed in the window around Christmas.

The light quality is very good, similar to that of incandescent light bulbs in terms of temperature. The spread was very good with the table lamp (an upright socket, not a horizontal one) casting light just as well as an incandescent. These also put off much less heat, feeling only comfortably warm after being on for a while.

I would rate these bulbs at 15-25w equivalent which is suitable for the aforementioned tasks. Pricewise, they could be cheaper, but time and economics will fix that.

This is a ok replacement option for a incadecent. I have another LED that I got which was little bit brighter. Even so, I would buy another one of these if the price beats the other LED options as it gets the job done.

LiteFuze Mosaic Glass Rechargeable Solar Lamp Outdoor Garden Light Reviews

After weeks shopping for solar LED lights for our patio garden, lights which were designed to hang and focus their light downward, I came across the LiteFuze in green. Sadly, the reviews only go back as far as March 2011, so I took a chance and ordered 3 of them. Wouldn't you know, when I opened the package, 2 of the 3 LED tops were not fastened to the globes, and the 3rd soon let go. It appears they were held together with an adhesive that might be sensitive to Arizona temperatures. If they are going to let go in the summer heat, I prefer they do so before I hang them. I had read a review saying the hanger did not seem to be secure and that the writer used wire to secure it to the globe. I agree that he has the right idea.

Before I wired mine together with stainless steel safety wire, none of them worked, but tapping them caused them to turn on and off erratically. Closer examination revealed that the positive battery contact was, ever so slightly, recessed too deeply in the plastic housing to make a firm connection with the AA cell's terminal. Moving the AA cell ever so gently confirmed this was the weak point. Solution: I placed a small piece of copper foil between the AA cell and the terminal to fill up the space. The down side is that now the AA cell can be bumped out of position, but our lamps will be hanging where they will not be bumped. So now I have 3 LiteFuzes lamps, held solidly together with a strand of safety wire, and a piece of copper foil making for a firm electrical connection.

As for their performance, my wife and I are pleased with the soft green light her plants receive from above, and the pleasant view of the textured glass globes. It is too soon to tell how well and long they will last. I will revisit this review if further comments are warranted. Would I recommend buying them? Well, I am ordering more with fingers crossed. At least I am prepared with more safety wire and copper foil. Too bad that it is that way. They seem to have had more artistic thought put into them than technical engineering and craftsmanship.

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2011

After writing this review, we ordered an additional 9 lights. The subsequent orders all arrived in excellent condition with the globes firmly attached to their tops and no electrical problems as happened with the original order of 3. After performing the above safety wire and battery servicing, I can say that we are very satisfied. They come on within a couple minutes of each other at sunset and originally produced sufficient light for 4 hours to make for a pleasant evening's garden view. After 4 hours they began dimming at different rates so I replaced all the AA cells with ones from the Home Depot and, since then, they are fairly uniformly bright until about 6 hours. I have experienced a 25% failure rate when one had to be exchanged after it decided to stay on all day and not recharge, and two others totally quit a few weeks later. So far, exchanges have gone smoothly, but they have a very short exchange period. Keeping our garden lighted might become too expensive.

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2013

Last summer we experienced some erratic behavior with some of the lights. Replacing AA cells did not solve their recharging problems. SO, all the lights had their rechargeable cells replaced with alkaline AA cells. I know, you are not supposed to do that, but we were desperate for ideas. Wow! All the lights come on at nearly the same time, are bright the whole night long, and go off at sunrise. I was expecting to replace the alkaline cells at least twice a month, but they last 6 months! Go figure? If more problems develop, we will wire them all up to a central battery/charging unit. They are just too pleasing to give up.

We ordered two of these (blue and green) based on the photo in the advertisement and were not disappointed. The light was even better than the pictures. After experimenting with a LOT of different solar garden lights, we have come to know which ones are really worthwhile and a good value for the money vs. the overpriced/cheaply made ones. The item is roughly the size of a small melon, glass and open at the bottom. We have it sitting on a table, but plan to hang it on a decorative hook. The hanger at the top may be its weak spot as it doesn't look as well made as the rest of the item, but should be adequate. As to long term functioning, time will tell, but I expect it to hold up nicely. All in all, highly recommended.

Well done. I plan to now order a white one.

This is a nice stylish lamp. In appearance it is very much like the Holtkoetter lamps, but there are quality differences. I have a Holtkoetter lamp that can readily be adjusted to any position with a single hand....no fuss, no parts to tighten, absolutely no slippage from position. The Kendal lamp, however, takes a minimum of two hands to adjust and honestly, it's better if you have help. I'm using this lamp in a location where I could adjust it to a permanent position. That's definitely my recommendation.

I have the oiled bronze finish in both lamps. The finish on the Kendal lamp is attractive, but definitely doesn't have the depth and color range of the Holtkoetter finish. That's to be expected since the Kendal lamp is steel and the Holtkoetter is solid brass. However, across the room, it's hard to tell the difference. So....if you don't mind some frustration in originally getting the lamp adjusted....and then you can leave it in that position...this is an attractive lamp that may suit your purpose. If you plan on changing the lamp's position frequently, I would NOT recommend this lamp. Spend the money and get a Holtkoetter.

UPDATE: I've found the slightest bump can cause this lamp to slip from position. I found the light bulb shade resting ON a chair due to the lamp slipping from position. The fabric was VERY warm and it could have caused a fire if left long enough. I've now used an extra wire from the balance bar to the cross piece from the dimmer/on/off control to hold it in position. That works for me since it's hard to see the wire where this lamp sets in the room.

These gorgeous lamps caught my eye. After years of searching, I was ready to bid farewell to my Southwestern bean-pots and their coolie hat shades. When the compact Pondex package arrived at my door step, sadly the lamps' warts, also appeared. The resin lamps multi segments and leaf rings were loosely attached. This required quite a bit of rotating, to find a sweet spot for half decent alignment, making the listing lamps stand straight. Turning and adjusting the rings scraped the urns. Keep a black magic marker handy for touch ups. The lamp warts got worse. The fold up, (yes think accordion,) bell shades had permanent wrinkles where the gold silk was adhered to the backing. Iron out the wrinkles and the shade sags at the bottom. I finally ripped out the sticky bottom, re-sewed it taut, and re-adhered it with a hot iron. One shade arrived with a hot glue hole that required careful sewing. This was too much fun; the last straw was the wood finials, each cut and drilled at an angle, so they appeared bent and useless. I had two antique brass ones I commandeered from other lamps. Angered, I considered sending my warty beauties back to Pondex, but feared getting a worse batch. The two beautiful lamps from my batch had no quality control from China. I truly hope my rotten experience was a fluke. I gave them three stars, because a designer came up with a gorgeous lamp; the execution and machining leave much to be desired, unless you like a warty beauty!

I needed a powerful but sealed power-pack (sealed battery + converter) for poolside use, to power a large 110-volt karaoke machine for five hours a day. The Xatrex 1500 is the only power-pack I've found that meets this requirement.

It was a pleasant surprise to find that the wheels have rubber rather than (noisy) plastic treads.

The first 1500 stopped working with a bang after two hours. When I phoned the Xantrex company, the technician I soon was talking to quickly concluded that my 1500 had malfunctioned and recommended that I return it. I was pleased with this candor. The second 1500 has worked for about a month now.

Not obvious is that the 1500 has a small storage cabinet, in which I store an extension cord.

Both 1500s arrived undamaged. A disclaimer is that I bought my 1500s from costo-dot-comm, which is relevant because perhaps Costco uses different packaging for shipping.

The "large karaoke machine" is a MegaStar CM-K1100, and its average draw has been 30-something watts.

9/18/06 Update: Around July the charge time dropped to under four hours. When I called Xantrex, the technician told me that battery life is about 200 charges.

I previously ordered two of these units and wrote a review. Both were badly damaged, but one was salvagable. The other I had to return, after it overheated and emitted a noxious odor. I decided to take a chance and order another unit this month (goal was to have total of two working units), hoping that whatever warehouse or shipping issues that resulted in previous damage had been resolved. They weren't. This unit also came with crushed top and wheels. Until the manufacturer comes up with a better way to ship these heavy beasts, not worth it.

Here's what I learned. I'm not an expert, but was looking for a practical solution to power outages.

1. Not practical if you are buying it to stay warm in power outages.

2. Extremely practical to run electrical items in the yard where no power is available. It's even on a rolling cart! Doesn't take up a lot of space in the garage when stored, but you'll want to keep it charged.

3. Somewhat helpful to make some coffee or run tiny appliances when the power is out.

4. Useful for lights during a power outage. Runs a big 3-way floor lamp, for instance.

5. Extremely useful for recharging your LAPTOP (or keeping your computer router running) during power outages or possibly even on camping trips.

6. Somewhat useful for running a radio/moderate-sized TV for a few hours.

7. Small appliances like a battery-operated radio or TV could run a long time on this unit after you have exhausted your batteries, probably would run them for a LONG time, maybe for days.

I originally bought 1 of these because I thought they would come in handy in power outages, to stay warm. That's not practical. You need one of the systems installed by an electrician/plumber that cost several thousand dollars for a workable heating and air conditioning system for power outages. That's not what this is for.

However, I bought 2 more and I'm so glad I did. I gave away 1 of the units to friends who are always doing things for others, so they could at least make coffee or oatmeal, etc., when the power goes out. I now have the whole-house generator I mentioned above, and even that is limited. My son uses the 1500 units I bought. He keeps his computer router hooked up to one in the cable room and he can recharge his laptop with it.

Think of it as a giant battery. You keep it plugged in and charged during the year and use it in bad weather for lights or making coffee, heating water, running tiny appliances, OR for projects in the yard that require electricity. The painters used one of them when they worked on my house earlier this year. This would come in handy if, for instance, your house was out of power for several days but you could go to a friend's house that has power and charge it. A larger unit might be a little more useful, but I don't think they are on carts, and those carts are a necessity for me. I need the portability. I hope this was helpful for someone. Others will prefer the technical information in some of the other reviews.

The unit failed after I owned it only five weeks. I was only actually used it a few times for short durations. I tried to use it one day and the fault light was illuminated and no ac power was coming out of the outlets. I returned it for repair or replacement 3 weeks ago after receiving a RMA number. I contacted Xantrex and they say they don't know anything about it, and the RMA number is not in there system. The customer support is impossible to get on the phone, and email support takes days to get back to you. They do offer to sell you another unit for 40% off though instead of sending me a replacement.

UPDATE: Xantrex did finally replace the first unit. Two months later the replacement also failed. They refuse to refund my money.

This is a great idea, badly executed. We bought one three years ago as a true emergency generator. We have a medical device that requires power, and our area is known for outages during the summer. But since we bought it, we have not needed to use it. We followed all manufacturer instructions for when leaving it sit idle, yet the batteries died anyway and the inverter fried itself. Replacing these cost more than buying a new unit. One of the batteries must also have developed a small leak (due to the summer heat, perhaps), and when I went to try to replace the batteries, there was corrosion all over the terminals and cables. I have to think that keeping the unit inside might not be a good idea if this happens to you, because of the potential for gas and acid release.

Xantex customer service is nearly non-existent and is geared only to selling replacement parts (but NOT batteries, which you have to look for elsewhere).

I really wish this thing worked, as a silent indoor generator is a wonderful notion. Too bad. We're still stuck with gasoline units and long extension cords.
