Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm going with four stars for now, to be downgraded later if the quality turns out to be poor. For now, I'd say this is about what you'd expect for twenty or thirty bucks. I would have loved something like this for my big study desk when I was a college student.

I really like the versatility of this lamp. You can set the arm at a lot of different heights, and the housing that holds the bulb swivels up and down and around to just about any angle. The base is very heavy, so you don't have to worry about the lamp falling over. Just be sure to turn the knobs VERY tightly when you set the arm where you want it. Otherwise the whole thing collapses on itself.

Another nice feature is that the lamp swivels on its base, so you can turn it to wherever you need light without moving the whole lamp. You can also clamp the lamp to your table rather than using the base. The clamp is provided, but you have to mess with it to get it put together correctly. The way they put it together to ship it is not the way you'll use it.

I wish the cord were longer. The directions say you can use an extension cord, but I'm always wary when using a light fixture of indeterminate quality, cheaply made in China. I'm also not particularly fond of the on/off switch on the cord. It's more like a wheel than a switch, and doesn't seem like it will hold up well.

The lamp uses a 40 watt bulb. Right now I'm cautiously using a 60 watt bulb, but I don't recommend doing that over the long term, because it could be a fire hazard. I just haven't had a chance to buy any 40 watt bulbs yet.

Overall, a decent enough product for the price. I don't know yet about its longevity, but it does come with a one-year limited warranty. I'll report back if the whole thing falls apart on me or quits working.

It's a good deal. The base is very heavy, thus the lamp can stretch forward and it's still stable with 45 degree inclination. The changeable design makes it convenient to either put on the table or clip to the edge of table, window etc. The only thing I am not satisfied is no bulb included.

I received this lamp along with another one (Marilyn Monroe). The pictures do not do them justice. They are just beautiful, and for the price? you cannot beat it.......I had looked around at other websites for similar products, but found none to my liking. I love this little helping hand -can't believe how handy it is. As a jewelry designer, it's a must have for holding bracelets while I add parts to it. The adjustable arms work perfectly so that I can customize to the size of the item I'm working on. I have found it just as helpful with necklaces, because of how wide I can adjust the clips. Also, the clips are quite strong, so no chance of anything falling off.

When it came in the mail, it was totally assembled, however, the nuts were so tight, I had to ask my other half to loosen them so I can move everything as I need. He fussed at me for spending so much money on another tool. He thought it cost between $30 and $50. He quit fussing when I told him how affordable it was. It is definitely worth the price.

In order to keep it from tipping over, I keep the magnifier toward the back to give it balance (that's all I use the magnifier for). That gives it enough weight to counter the weight of the jewelry I'm working on. I have a magnifying lamp that I use for better vision, so the magnifier serves no other purpose than for balance -but it works perfectly. This tool has ended a lot of frustration, making my work much more enjoyable.

I'm planning to buy a second one so I can have two pieces in progress at the same time.

I bought this for use with some hobby electronics soldering. After reading the reviews I figured I knew what to expect and for a little over $6 shipped (gotta love Amazon Prime) I took the leap. Some people complained that it was not assembled and came without instructions. Mine was ready to go and completely assembled out of the box. Others complained that the magnifying glass rattled around with the parts and was scratched. Mine was wrapped in plastic and cardboard and as I said earlier, it was completely assembled. Others complained that it is "tippy", and I fully intended to mount it to a board and make a little portable soldering station. I don't find it "tippy" or uneven at all. For what I will use it for it is perfect. It totally exceeded my expectations given the reviews. I hope everyone else who orders this has the same experience I had. Maybe I'm lucky, and I'm sure there is some validity to the other reviewers complaints, but this is exactly what I had hoped for.

My boyfriend and I have many crafty hobbies, he paints figures for Warhammer and Dungeons and dragons and I sew knit crochet and make jewelry and we both find this tool SUPER useful! It clasps onto things so that your fingers don't get as tired as they would if you had to hold a bead or a small miniature piece. and the magnifying glass makes it so that he can get into greater detail with his figures. The base is sturdy so it doesn't fall over easy and you know that your project is secure. I love this product. A must have for any Crafter!

Some assembly is required, but there are no directions. You have to figure it out from the pictures and looking at the pieces you have. But it's mostly assembled. Also, it was a bit "tippy" until I figued out to put the second to last "arm" on the glass forward and the last arm heading to the back. (This puts more weight to the front.)

Helping hands tend to get some flak in the eletronics community but they can be quite invaluable if you know how to use them. It helps to use two of them to hold the board. If you only use one then it tends to tip over. A second word of advice is to put a little heat shrink over the tips of the alligator clips. I find this helps them hold onto the board better while preventing the sharp edges of the clips from digging into the board.

This is a nice lamp. The bulb is color-balanced and very bright. The two lenses are real glass, both clear and bright. Overall construction seems very good, the pivot points are smooth and tight and the frame seems solid. It stays where you put it. My only negative is with the clamp-on portion, which could be a bit larger and stronger, although it isn't bad. In my case, I don't use the clamp anyway, just drilled a 1/2" hole near the edge of my workbench and the light fits solidly in the hole and isn't in the way.

Overall, I give it 5 stars for the quality of the light, the lenses, and the arm mechanism, as well as the overall design and slim size. I might knock off a half-star for the table clamp if I could. Check out others like this (I looked at dozens) and you'll see that most are more expensive and possibly not as good. Completely satisfied with this purchase.

This lamp is AWESOME. It's the same one sold in the Universal Catalogue for Aestheticians at $109.00. There's no distortion and provides great day-like light. Holds its place when adjusted using the screw bracket, it's not a gooseneck. You can't just grab and turn this one with one hand, like most of us tend to do. Best for single technician use or shared use, if you get other users to adjust the tilt and position properly, so as not to strip the bracket.

The lamp is 22 watts but puts out enough light to be used as a ceiling light in a small room (10x10feet). It adjusts from 8 inches above the desk to about 42 inches above the desk. The desk being 30 inches off the floor. The adjustments are smooth and positive. Once adjusted it stays adjusted. No sign of droop. It swings 180 degrees in its mounting in my installation. The movement is smooth and positive.

It comes with two lenses (high and low magnification) that are high quality glass and easily interchangable.

The lamp gets warm but not hot. It uses an electronic ballast that is quiet both audibly and electrically. I use a lot ot electronic equipment that is sensitive to electrical noise. This lamp does not appear to produce any electrical interference.

In very small print on the box there is the declaration 'made in china'. The lamp it is replacing was also made in china and was a useless piece of junk. I guess the new lamp was made by a company that knows how to make lamps because this Daylight lamp is high quality, superbly functional, and only cost about $40 more than I paid for my previous junky lamp..

This lamp is a wonderful tool for anyone who needs to inspect or work with items that must be magnified for ease of manipulation. For years I sat at my table with two pairs of glasses on. Stupid!

I chose to buy a lamp/magnifier (in one) rather than an appliance that has separate arms for the light source and the magnifier. The clamp-on mount I find a bit wobbly, but that does not concern me too much. The lamp itself does not get hot when lit, and perfect for beading work. Just the other day it became my operating theater as I removed a garden splinter!

Here's a safety tip: My work station is in front of a window, and if you remember from camping, magnified sunlight can start a fire. I simply made a fabric bag to cover the lamp head when it is not in use. The added benefit is the glass does not get dusty, either.

Great, bright light.

You don't have to kiss the magnifier to see clearly through it and nor does what you are trying to magnify!

Doesn't get scolding hot.

Stays in place.

Moves well and the mounting clamp is good.

Magnifying lenses are nice, big and a breeze to change out.

Cons:

Expensive. But with this being the only con I've found so far I would say it's worth the money for sure.

Loved it so much I gave one to my father in law who does bird carving; He loves it just as much!

As a desktop lamp it's perfect as it takes up little space and I really like the light from this lamp. But I do have one issue with this lamp.

I had contemplated hanging the lamp from on my cubicle wall, but the middle arm of the lamp must be pulled away from the base in order to turn the lamp on. This makes reading the calendar, clock, and tempurature located in the middle arm difficult if not impossible.

Easy to assemble, decent size and very solid. This was a Mother's Day gift, otherwise I wouldn't have been willing to shell out that much money for it.

A huge plus was that it is packaged very very well, the box came in beat all to heck but there wasn't a bit of damage to the lamp.

The only detraction for the lamp is an astetic one, the light in the middle globe. It only has one small bulb located very off center, which presents an uneven appearance, yes it is only an accent light but it results in a very odd appearance when used. Two small bulbs spaced evenly would have been much better.
