This lamp is large and sturdy, and the blue base is very pretty. I ended up using another lampshade because this one is such an oversized rectangle that it was out of proportion with my tablescape. I also bought another finial because, again, the finial is very overscale. Bottom line, I adored the base but that's about it.

It is not the appearance of this lamp that concerns me. I am indifferent to the appearance, to be honest. The problem that I have with this lamp is that it is not very heavy, so you have to be careful around it, so that it does not get knocked over. The glass shade is somewhat thin and fragile, as well. Every time I went near it, I was afraid of tipping it over and breaking it.

This is just another relatively pretty looking, affordable piece of crap from a country that shall remain nameless.

Like many reviewers (from similar products from the same maker) mentioned, the glass pieces do not align, and just don't stay in place. Too light very easily knocked off in the dark. And the glasses are not tampered.

The deal breaker is that the lamp uses the worst capacitor possible in the touch circuit. A tiny little surge would toast it. Thus, when the original light bulb is dead which last merely 18 days in my case good luck in making the touch circuit working again. Some reviewers mentioned replacement light bulbs won't work. It's NOT the light bulb. The touch circuit is supposed to make any ordinary type B light bulb to become 3 way. Doesn't even matter what wattage (although the lamp says use 60w lightbulb max)

It's the cheap capacitor inside the lamp. Even refurb stuff won't bomb out like this. And for cheap stuff light this, it makes no sense to risk fire hazard to repair the capacitor.

One of the very rare regret purchases I ever had in Amazon.com. I dumped this lamp into the garbage to prevent further brain cell damage due to my anger.

I think I bought a knock-off of a higher quality product. The design of this lamp is nice but the materials are cheap and manufacturing is poor quality. The dragonflies on the base are just painted over the luminescent globe. Some of the dragonflies are not painted thoroughly and the light shines through where paint was too thin. Lamp looks fine at a distance, but not something I want in my home.

I was extremely disappointed when I opened the lamp package. The "glass" part looks like shiny plastic and the dragonflies are painted on in a not very careful way so the base shows through. I wish I had purchased either a bean pot style mica shade lamp with a metal base or had sprung for a more expensive better looking one. I would like to send it back but another review of a similar lamp said the shipping was approx. $46.00 to return the thing. There are two pull chains which can turn on and off the 40 watt bulbs. There is also a cord switch which will turn on/off the two bulbs AND the base-but the lamp cannot be turned on with only the upper light bulbs which is a shame because the base is the disappointing part.

The unit assembles easily (in two minutes) and the light puts out a good amount of light and a nice and even spread. Just like the other reviewer's comment, my unit was also missing the set screw but that does not inhibit the use of the lamp.

The arm does adjust at different angles but the lamp portion itself does not turn so I cannot turn the LED lights up facing the ceiling and have the light bounced off the ceiling.

I think if the arm can have that swiveling action, it will be the perfect lamp for me.

Arrived late, but intact and with all pieces I not only had the screw that some were missing, but a spare as well. Assembly was a breeze.

The base is heavy enough where I have no fear it will fall over and is slick enough on the bottom to allow for ease of movement on my desktop. While the LEDs aren't the brightest, they perform the role that they are meant to it's a task lamp, after all. A slight complaint that I had about the product, which caused the 4-star rating, was that it had somewhat of a sticky residue on it upon opening. While quite minimal, only in a few places, and very easy to clean off, it was still a bit of an inconvenience.

All in all very pleased with the product worth the money. 4/5 stars.

The light itself is well made, featuring sturdy plastics in both the housing and compound lens, and a flexible metal gooseneck. Unlike cheap LED lights that throw a dim bluish spot, this light gives relatively neutral, even illumination across a wide area. The light output is more than sufficient for "up close" work such as reading/hobby/crafts, and it's adequate for general-purpose lighting of arm's length jobs such as working underneath a sink, etc. This light will not replace your general-purpose room lighting or your desk lamp, but it's really quite bright! I've owned a couple of book-lights and USB lights in the past and I was quite pleased with the overall performance of this product.

Notes:

1) This light draws ~496mA @ 5V when connected via USB, which is pretty similar in terms of power to a USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive. Assuming a modern laptop with 50WHr battery and ~5-6 hour typical runtime, this translates into ~15-20 minute penalty.

2) Besides computers or the included base, this light can be plugged into just about any standard charger with a USB port, and it will work normally. This includes iPhone and iPad chargers, Kindle chargers, USB power ports, and even car chargers with USB ports!

3) When used with 2000mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries, I got about ~12 hours of runtime.

The flexible stem makes adjusting easy, allowing for multiple angles and rotation. I was worried that the light portion would make this system top heavy, but the base really does its job to maintain balance. The base also has low profile grips so it won't slide around on smooth surfaces. I use it on a portable desk and it is very stable. Perfect for when you need light but don't want to disturb those around you. I use while working in bed instead of my book light or dimming overhead. It provides plenty of light where needed, without being annoying or glaring. It does use batteries when in the stand/desk top stand, but easily plugs into a usb. The only drawback is when your batteries die. You either have to carry spares or will be limited to the usb drive use only. No plug in power source is available. I haven't packed batteries during travel in a while, so this might be a problem down the road. A recharge/adapter would be ideal, but if you can get over using batteries, this light is pretty awesome.

I purchased three of these and was delighted to see how nice they look (much better than the picture on amazon). I ordered in November 2011, and the lamp came with a MLB logo on two opposing sides and "Detroit Tigers" with the Detroit D underneath on the other two sides.

I changed the three lamps into pendant lights over the bar in the basement that I just put in using "mini pendant light kits" from lowes.

I bought two HE-430 emergency lighting systems, but I have to return them both because the batteries do not hold any charges. Let just say the fail rate for both are at 100%, and if I was to buy the third one I'll bet it will fail as well. Maybe because the product has been on the shelves too long or what I don't know, plus one of the units has some loose parts in side when I first took it out from the box. Please look elsewhere for emergency lighting system.

This was my first Amazon purchase and in their defense the return proccess was simple and quick. But on the down side would be whoever at Amazon did the purchasing of this product should have done some more homework as to why the seller was trying to dump them.

I ordered this unit to replace an aging unit that was going to require a new battery and had standard 6VDC incandescent bulbs instead of LED's. When weighing the cost of upgrading my existing unit as to how much a new unit would cost, I checked out Amacon.com to see what they had to offer. This is the unit I ended up ordering. For just a few dollars more than I was going to spend to 'upgrade' my existing unit, I could get a new unit instead of 'fixing' my old unit.

When this unit arrived and was unpacked, I immediately realized that, being made of plastic, this was NOT intended for 'industrial use'; (well; OK, maybe LIGHT 'industrial use') but that was OK because this was going to be used in a residential application.

The instructions said to plug the unit in for at least 48 hours to fully charge the battery. I did that and then unplugged the unit. Nothing happened. Do you know how 'black'; 'dark' is? I found out in a hurry.

However, when the unit is plugged in, the power is on and the sun sets, this unit has a built in "selectable" 'nite light feature that turns on one or both of the lamp heads containing the LED's, when it gets dark. I guess that's a nice feature but I REALLY wanted a unit that provides backup emergency lighting when the commercial power goes out.

This one failed; it was obviously defective.

I requested a Return Authorization from Amazon.com and ordered a replacement unit. That replacement unit arrived this morning; I plugged it in to let the batteries charge. After a few hours, I unplugged the unit and sure enough, the unit activated. I believe this one will work just fine, the first one was apparently a 'fluke' that it was shipped deffective.

I again repeat that this unit is NOT a 'heavy duty' unit; but that's not the purpose for which I purchased it. I am hopeful that it will work properly and satisfactorily; if not, I'll update that here, as warranted.

If it does what it's advertised to do, yeah; I'd order another one if I ever needed a second emergency light.

The lamp looks great and provides plenty of light. However, after I had used the lamp for the first night I had it (it was on for 2-3 hours), the following morning the shade had shattered. Presumably this happened because the shade (made from glass) couldn't handle the heat from the lamp, and shattered as it cooled down overnight. I had followed the manufacturer's instructions when assembling the lamp, and the pieces were all intact when the lamp was delivered.

This lamp blended in beautifully with the rest of the table/countertop light fixtures throughtout the house (frosted glass, stainless steel finish). It's well constructed and perfectly balanced regardless of the position into which the gooseneck is tilted. The on/off switch is thoughtfully set in the base, making for a stable operation. After shopping the web and almost giving up, this was just what I was looking for!
