I purchased the Plasma Ball as a birthday gift for my 9 year old granddaughter. After opening the gift, the other grandchildren gathered around to touch and watch it. Now, my son wants to purchase one for his little girl to use as a nightlight. It made a wonderful gift.

I bought this lamp for my daughter (almost a teenager), and she loves it. She had another one, bigger, without the neon ring, but this one fell down from a table the same day we received it(yes, they are very fragile, and will break in little sharp pieces if they fall down; this lamp is not for small children). She was so sad, that I ordered this one the same day, which is even more fantastic. Both my daughter and I think the size is big enough, just fine. The rays look amazing, with their beautiful colors, and will respond to a loud noise or clap of hands! The neon light looks really nice! This lamp looks as if it was retrieved from high tech lab.

In order to avoid breaking this lamp, my daughter now keeps it in a very low shelf, with the cable to plug it very close to the electrical outlet (so she won't be pulling the lamp off a table inadvertently, which is what happened with the other one).

Works like it's supposed to. It's just a lot of money for something that the kids only plug in once in a while. Might be better to see it at the science center.

The plasma ball would not function after a week. I found that a screw had come out inside. Upon inspection it looked like the unit had been repaired previously, but didn't hold. I put the screw back in, but to no avail.
