I like this lamp because the on/off switch is on top of the lamp and the lamp easily accepts standard screw-in compact florescent light bulbs. I put a Litetronics Neolite 23 Watt CFL in it and it works fine. The base is not very heavy, but it's stable. If you find that the CFL's you buy are too large, try the Litetronics Neolight's, they are usually smaller bulbs for the same light output and are available on Amazon. I also recommend putting some Di-Electric Grease on the base of the bulb. This makes the bulb screw in and out of the socket easier reducing the chance of cracking the delicate CFL glass. You only need to use about 1/2 a grain of rice sized amount of grease per bulb. Smear it all over the electrical contacts of the bulb, don't be shy. This special grease allows electric to pass thru it. Don't use regular grease or oil or lube they can interfere with the electric contacts.
Dec 2011 update The base of the lamp is not heavy enough to keep it stable when using a LED bulb like the excellent ThetaLux 9 Watt LED Light Bulb. This is too bad because LED bulbs are a good fit for desk lamps.

This little guy does just what I need it to do: It lights up the paperwork on my desk when I need that and it bends down to throw some light on my keyboard shelf when I need to locate computer keys I don't know by touch. It takes up only a little bit of desk space and uses either a 60-watt incandescent light bulb or a 13-watt energy-saver bulb. Its white color matches my white desk, and its black knob and arm match my computer and keyboard. And...best of all, it cost me less than the $22.35 I would have had to pay just to replace the burnt out bulb in my 2-year old Verilux, let alone what replacing that lamp's broken grid might have set me back, if one were available, which I sort of doubt. Will probably also come in handy when trying to thread a needle and other tasks that involve squinting.
P.S. I just noticed that the lamp I received differs slightly from the ones pictured here in that the on/off switch is a black knob atop the light, which improves its looks quite a bit in my opinion.

It makes a great bedside reading lamp. Simple, efficient, inexpensive and cute. I also like the black knob on the top rather than the little switch pictured. It reminds me of the Pixar lamp.

This lamp is not as good as i expect, altough it works . the main problem is : it is not stable. If you touch it slightly, it would tilt and then fall over....

I was looking for a compact desk lamp w/a bendable neck for the shelf above my desk computer and this one fit the bill quite nicely. I also like the fact it takes standard or CFL bulbs. It illuminates my laptop work area quite well. An added plus for me is the red color, which is my favorite. Great lamp at a bargain price. Perfect!
