Immediately disappointed upon opening the package. This was purchased to replace an $18 lamp in which the table clamp had broke on it(the lamp is about a year old & still works great). The replacement clamp cost as much as a new lamp so we decided to try this $52.00 LEDU lamp. This was a mistake. All the joints, base, and the lamp itself are all plastic. The head for the light is very flimsy feeling. It's a lightweight plastic, and sags down putting strain on the plastic post that holds the whole thing up. I don't expect the post to hold the weight of the lamp for very long. The arms are the only metal pieces on the unit. The one positive is that the amount of light and quality of light it gives off is really nice.The $18.00 lamp that this replaced was totally metal except for the clamp. Why do these companies make plastic clamps? This seems so silly since the clamps are the part that needs to be able to stand up to the weight of the lamp. Very frustrating.
So my advice is to buy the $18.00 Alvin G2540-B Swing Arm Lamp, Black, and also the metal $15.00 Adjustable Lamp Clamp Black .
UPDATE 1-2012 : The light part of the lamp will not stay up. It consistently falls down to within 8 inches of the desk with no way to make it stay up in the correct position. Very expensive garbage.
