A couple weeks back a brand new Jo-Ann Fanrics had a sale on all their OttLites, so my wife and I picked up two of these, one white for home and one black for my office at work. Within a week of having it at work I received multiple compliments on it.

Aesthetically speaking, this line of OttLites is very sharp. When you are not using it, you can stand it up straight with the actual lamp portion bent to be adjacent to its neck, giving it an appearance like a cool-looking tall speaker. The picture doesn't show this, but you can see the two hinges at the bottom and top of the neck. Not only does this look nice, but it gives it a minimalist attribute in that it's easy to put up and won't take up much room at all. Functionally speaking, it's not quite as convenient as the standard OttLite task lamp per say, however it works well and looks great.

In terms of the lighting, OttLites are known for their daylight lamps that you can work under their light for hours without straining your eyes. All this holds up here.

I will say just be careful you don't drop this. It doesn't feel flimsy, cheap or, hollow, but with it's materials I'm just not sure if it'd be able to really survive a decent drop.

The only real drawback here is its glossiness. While that adds to its looks, when glossiness is on black it shows smudges and fingerprints super easily.

Other than that this is a great, new design from OttLite. It works wonderfully and can sometimes turn some heads.

This lamp is not worth $40+, but it is worth $10-20. I bought it at OfficeDepot for $19.99 and it wasn't on sale. The quality of the entire lamp is questionable with the overly-high gloss on blatantly cheap plastic and the flimsy joints that hold the lamp crooked. This lamp, like most OttLite lamps, is basically a proprietary bulb with extremely cheap hosing built around it.

If you want a good idea of how any lamp holds-up over time, go to your local office supply retailer and look at the lamps they have on display. Those lamps take abuse for months on end by all sorts of people. This lamp was on display. It looked very beat up and was barely holding up the arm, but the light was exceptionally nice at 5500k (full spectrum), which is why I bought it.

Pros:

It works!

The light has great color and balanced coverage for the size

Cons:

Cheap plastic

Weak joints

Crooked holding positions

Limited movement

Other thoughts:

The holding positions and the shade do not limit the light enough to where the lamp can be placed in a location without the bulb being visible from an opposing direction. This is annoying because the bulb is bright and a bit blinding, so if the lamp is set on a desk with seats on both sides, one side will see the lamp's bright bulb.

I've had this lamp for almost 2 years and love it. I use it mainly by my computer in the evenings and it gives me plenty of light with no eye strain.

The arm and shade can be adjusted however you want them. One reviewer commented that the joints did not hold up the arm well. That is because that reviewer bought a display model from the store and the store didn't know to tighten the joints. If you do that, you won't have any problems.

I highly recommend any OttLite. They are worth the money to have great lighting for your desk, crafting, etc.
