I bought this lamp for my bedside table, and it's just about the perfect size for that (a little tall, but not too tall). The shade is very translucent, so that when the lamp is on you get a very warm light that is yellow at the top and red near the bottom. The inside of the lampshade is quite white, though, so if you're viewing it from above, you see orangey outside and white inside.

It turns on and off with a regular turning switch near the bulb under the shade.

In addition to the branches and birds, the lampshade has whimsical elements like little electrical plugs, a yeti (?), etc. They are subtle.

It came with a 13W (60W-equivalent) CFL bulb, so it was ready to assemble and turn on.

I'm very pleased.

This lamp is gorgeous. The silhouette has all kinds of little details: electrical plugs and outlets, a deer, bigfoot... When you turn on the bulb it really makes an impression. I'm a sucker for the warm colors and when light shines through them, they really come alive and set the illustration off even more.

The stand is sturdy and unremarkable but at least that makes the lamp affordable. There are other, more expensive stand styles available at the Lamp-in-a-Box's website, and a huge range of other lampshades. It's too bad the only other ones available on Amazon.com are Beatles-themed; hopefully some reseller will get a few more of the creative ones in and sell them here, so Prime customers, at least, can get free shipping.

I actually am using the box it came in as a waste basket. It is the perfect shape and size for one.
