What can I say? It clamps securely to the table. It stays right in the position you put it in. It has a broad range of motion. The switch works smoothly. It has classic styling. It does everything you expect from a Luxo drafting lamp. If you need something that performs better than your typical desk lamp this is the archetype.

I've owned my lamp since 1972, and it is still in great condition. I just had it rewired, but that probably wouldn't have been necessary if I hadn't wrapped the excess cord around a cord shortener which caused the wiring to crack. I bought the lamp to use on my sewing machine table. Everything works perfectly and its multiple adjustment points make it ideal for angling the light on my sewing project. I don't remember how much I paid in 1972, but if you want a lamp which lasts forever, it's worth the price.

This is my 2nd Luxo lamp, and I love them both. (The other is a magnifying lamp.)

Too many spring arm lamps like this are only usable very close to their neutral position. Any attempt to use the full range of the arm just springs back or falls over. Not with the L-1! This baby is properly balanced and tensioned, so it will stay where you put it.
