We just installed this light fixture it's built well. The light works fine and, surprisingly, is about half the weight of the unit it replaced. The center-pull chain switch greatly reduces the fixture's "dancing" when pulled as compared to one with an end-mounted switch. And, the chrome diamond plate enhances our shop, giving it a more business-like appearance.

I purchased 2 of these on 17 Jan 2011. Both arrived in good condition. 1 died on me within 6 months of moderate use in the shop. The other is still working. The one that died had a faulty igniter (it happens). I was about two days away from purchasing more of these for my shop when the one failed. I dropprd that idea and purchased a different brand (more robust). As a reviewer has already revealed, the metal used on these lights are very flimsy (thin). Not what I would consider shop specs, but they do look nice. Would probably go better over a pooltable or in a den.Best Deals for 48" Diamond - plate Fluorescent Shop Light
This light is a very good value for the money.Bought it to hang over my dog's grooming table. Perfect.
It's very lightweight and the surface really throws off the light.
The other reviewers mentioned that their fixture arrived with dings.
Mine did too, but they were very minor. I just wrapped a little
duct tape around the jaws of a pair of pliers and smoothed them out.
(A lot probably depends on the carrier)
The description says it takes T8 and T12 florescent tubes.
I ordered some T12's separately, but the label on this fixture
said to use the T8's. I called the manufacturer (nice folks) and
the guy said T12's will work just fine, they just won't last as long,
with constant use. (not a problem for me)
The installation instructions say to remove the wire cover and "push
the sockets in place". There's no need to do that, it comes fully assembled.
The pull chain positioned in the center makes it very stable.
The mounting chain is 9 inches long. When you add the S-hooks and the
open-screw eye hooks you'll have it hanging about a foot from the ceiling.
...and then there was light.
