Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Verilux SmartLight is a little more than a foot tall, comes on instantly with the flick of the switch and provides a nice daylight color light. I like the white exterior (with gray trim around the lighting head), tends to go with anything. My studio is almost all white anyway as I need as much light as possible. Not thrilled with the material that the neck is made from, seems a little thin and cheap. I was hoping the entire neck was flexible instead of just the top portion. There's a handy instruction booklet in case you don't know how to put the bulb in, plug the lamp in or turn it on. As well, you are instructed as to the dangers of water and electricity, standard liable stuff for their own protection.
At the back of the booklet there is an order form for another bulb. At a whopping $19.95 plus $6.95 shipping and fondling, I think I'll use another source. In case you need to order one and you've lost the booklet, you can get the CFML27VLX bulb much cheaper at other online outlets, including lightexports dot com (price: 11.75 including shipping if in the U.S.).
Good Points:
* Bright, medium white light
* Comes on instantly, no flickering
* Decent price
* Fairly long cord
* Solid, heavy base
* Nice, clean-line design in a good size
Not-so-good Points:
* Cheap plastic around goose neck
* No hi/lo settings on light to provide ambient light when not in use
* Neck not adjustable over entire length, only top portion
* Bulb not packaged well when it arrived, was loose in bag
* Bulb far too expensive from manufacturer
All in all, not a bad little light, but could be improved with total goose neck and better materials. Three stars.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a nicely designed desk lamp that supposedly uses 'daylight' simulating bulbs. The key point of that fact is that students in public school that work under natural light conditions instead of florescent lighting conditions tend to do better academically and with behavior. I am a public school teacher and fully agree that natural light is better when available. This light is very nice, but I doubt that it will help your child perform better at school unless he or she drags it around with them. At home, it should do the trick very nicely.Updated Note from October 20th
The light has already stopped working. It now needs to be 'banged' on the top for the light to turn on, and sometimes the light flickers for brief periods before stabilizing.
I purchased a new bulb (low low price of almost $20 here at Amazon) to see if this would fix the problem, but it did not.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Verilux SmartLight The Lamp for LearningI was impressed as soon as I opened the box. This light is nice to look at and it is the perfect size for my computer table or my side table. The light part where the bulb is measures approximately 10 inches. The neck of the lamp measures approximately 14 inches, the flexible part of the neck measures approximately 8 inches and the base is approximately 8x5.5 x 1
I have found that as I get older I prefer to have a lot of light, not only to read by but for any project and even watching TV. The best part about this light is that on a cloudy gloomy day this can make your room look as though the sun is shining in the windows. I love it!
This Verilux light is bright but not blinding. If I keep the gooseneck straight up I can illuminate the whole room or I can angle the gooseneck down and have it concentrate in one area. The base is light yet substantial that you can't accidentally knock it over should you bump into it.
The cord is long enough to accommodate several locations in my house and overall this is the perfect size in height as well.
The light comes with an instruction book and in the back is an order form for a new bulb which runs 19.99 plus 6.95 shipping and handling. This is a nice inclusion because then I don't have to search all over the web to find it when it comes time to replace it.
Honest reviews on SmartLight Study Lamp
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a handy, compact, versatile lamp that I have to say, I liked right away. Although I'm not using it for studying, I am using it for learning: I put it on my piano to light my lead sheets and practice books, and it worked to perfection. It is a very bright light that is easy to angle and twist, but it stays still and steady next to the music stand. For my almost 50-year old eyes, it provided a good contrast that really does seem to make the music a little easier to see (as compared to my daylight simulating OttLite L24554 Task Plus High-Definition 24-Watt Floor Lamp, Dove Grey). I did notice, too, that my eyes didn't fatigue as much or as fast while using this light. The plastic is a little cheap feeling, but I haven't had any problems with it. I would prefer something maybe just a little heavier, but that, too, is a minor complaint at best.Will this light help make your kid (or you) smarter, as the name implies? Probably not. But in studying algebra or learning to play piano, or just about any other endeavor requiring focus and concentration, I always look for some kind of edge. SmartLight certainly provides an edge in visibility by increasing contrast and reducing fatigue. I'm looking forward to it lighting the way as I continue to advance my jazz piano career.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I love this lamp. I've had the floor lamp version for years. I'm not sure why I waited so long to add the desktop model to my collection.The best feature of this lamp is the quality and brightness of the light. I can't even count the number of lamps I've had that require me to pick up papers or books and reposition them under the light so that I can see the print. Not necessary with this lamp. It casts light over a generous portion of my desk (thereby increasing my workspace, especially at night), and the light is bright, comfortable and steady.
The lamp is hefty enough that you don't have to worry about knocking it off the desk when you move the neck around. And speaking of necks, the flexibility is dramatic. You can lift the head of the lamp up, down or to either side to illuminate another portion of the room. (The flexible necks on some lamps have an extremely limited range of motion. Not this one!)
Finally, I should address the cost of the replacement bulbs. Yes they are expensive at $19.95 (assuming you do not want to buy off-brand), but I've had two floor lamps, one for over 7 years (!) and I have yet to replace a bulb.
