We have tables that they work on, but I do not believe 3.5 inches would work. I'm happy with them, but suspicious of this claim.

I've tried to purchase these on other sites and this is the only one where you get more then one clip. I've used these countless times with my catering business and I have yet to break one. I use them on those white plastic tables with a 2in. lip.
