Worked well for about 5 months and then the light output became very dim. I tried replacing the bulb with no improvement.

My problem does not appear to be unusual with other OTTlight products. Called their support and they were of no help. In fact, their customer service leaves A LOT to be desired.

The one star is a bit harsh, I suppose. So, I'll qualify it this way. Immediately after purchasing the lamp, I was impressed 5 stars. A couple of months later, I noticed that the light output seemed to be less but perhaps I'm imagining it. Wait 1 more month, and I'm certain the output is less, but still ok 3.5 stars. Move forward a couple more months and the lighting is anemic 2 stars. Call OTTlight for support, they absolutely stink and give me the run-around 1 star (lowest I could give).

Bottom line:

If I had reviewed this product right after it was purchased, it would have received 5 stars. The durability of this product is highly questionable in my experience. OTTlight appears uninterested in making it right. And, I've given them the opportunity. I even purchased a bulb at their suggestion.

Too much money for a disposable lamp. I'm looking elsewhere for a replacement.

Lamp gives a nice light, however the battery last very short time. It is a bit heavy too. I carry it along my other art supplies to class and sometimes I just leave it at home bc it is heavy to carry along w other things. To solve this I wanted to just leave it in my locker at school but then I realized the battery lasts very short. Oh well.

Okay, in short it is a mercury bulb lamp that give white light and takes 5-10 minutes to warm up to full power. It is not a spot light, work light or a photography light. This will only provide enough light for your hands, or to light up a sheet of notebook paper size space. That was what it was designed for and does it well. Another question is if it is good for painting or other colored art? Answer is, maybe. Paint in the light the art will be displayed in, the end.

So on to the important part, the battery. It is a 6v lead acid battery. Replacements can commonly be found at $10 or less. Now here is the rub, if this lamp ever completely discharges completely the battery will have been damaged. That is the nature of lead acid batteries. Sometimes it will charge again, but it won't ever last as long again. Don't be surprised if the battery has to replace if it discharged completely. Also remember to recycle both the dead battery and mercury bulb at a place that takes them, radio shack for example.

Another note. It should be possible to replace the batter with a different type of battery, like a lithium based battery. I would imagine this would cost a sack of pretty pennies.

I bought this so that I'd have better light to knit by in the camper at night. It not only works great there but on evenings at home when my husband wants to watch television in relative darkness I can knit without disturbing him. This is perfect and the price is great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

This is a great little lamp to shed light on your projects in my case, watercolor. It allows me to better seen what I am doing by providing a uniform natural like light in a poorly lit room.

I can leave it plugged in, and it is ready to move to the kitchen island where I have no electric outlet. A nice addition to my art supplies.
