I bought this as a replacement for a similar halogen lamp that I keep on my nightstand after that lamp went out on me the ballast shorted out in a storm. I had looked for quite a while to find a replacement and went to several bricks and mortar stores (Ikea, Target, Staples, Office Depot, etc). They were either outrageously expensive, or outrageously poor quality. It seems that lamps at the lower price range are now nearly all LED-based, which I find doesn't produce as much light as a halogen bulb. So I was happily surprised when I came across this one at Amazon. The gooseneck arm is about 18" plenty long enough to turn it in whatever direction I need. A rocker switch in the base turns it on/off much more convenient than a switch on the cord. Lastly, it is very bright, and puts out a good guality light. It is everything I wanted, at a price that couldn't be beat($20!).

I bought 2 of these, one for my wife to take to work and one for me at home. Neither of them lasted a week. Amazon is refunding us, but we have to ship them both back, and it's a bit of a hassle. Total garbage, DO NOT BUY THESE!

Had a certain amount of trepidation over ordering this lamp, though not simply based because on the negative reviews. Having owned what I considered to be the perfect lamp for over 20 years, when it finally died, had my doubts that anything would please me, since unrealistically I wanted the exact same item. :P

It seems these lower end halogen desk lamps are going the way of the dinosaur and LED lamps are becoming the norm. The shops I visited didn't have any halogen lamps in my price range, so I decided to purchase one of the LED desk lamps. It was no where near as bright and after finding it was unsuitable for my needs, I returned it. That's when I headed for Amazon and eventually found this gem.

I've been using it daily for nearly a month and haven't experienced any problems. The base is very stable, the neck has excellent flexibility and the brightness is exactly what I need.

Perhaps some of the negative views are based on the length of time it's been kept it on? In my opinion, halogen lighting is only suited for intermittent usage because they burn so hot. While I do use it to view documents while at my desk, I normally don't need to keep it on for more than an hour at a time. I'd definitely get a different kind of lamp if I wanted to kick back for a few hours and read a book.

So, if someone is needing a lamp that can be left on for hours at a time, I believe it would be advantageous to buy something else. It might be one of the reasons so many folks are having difficulty with bulb burnout. Then again, I've only been using the thing for a month, so if I do experience problems down the road, I'll definitely come back to revise my review.

I had one of these lamps before until it was accidentally knocked over and broken. Looked at many other desk lamps locally, but most of the lamps I looked at were clunky and not very bright. Decided to check Amazon and was thrilled to find the very same model I had once owned--and at a far more reasonable price than any other lamp of this class. I recommend this lamp because it has a compact size, nice styling, an attractive color and finish, and a nice heavy base. It is also brighter than any other desk lamp I have looked it. I have half a mind to buy another one just so I always have a replacement on hand. Absolutely one of the best things I own. I am an avid reader, so bright white light is a must!
