Fitting the iPad 2, 3 and 4 (New iPad), this portable mount ads versatility to your iPad and allows you hands-free access in areas where traditional stand/covers won't work.
The build quality of this mount is very good. At first I was uncertain about putting my iPad 3 into it, as if the mount let go, the iPad would be damaged. I usually keep my iPad in a case which offers both back and front protection, but had to remove the case prior to putting the iPad into this mount, which for me is the only real negative to using this product.
The portion of the mount that clamps to the iPad is made of lightweight, yet durable plastic. It attaches to the iPad at the top and on the bottom two corners, making a 3-point contact to the device which is quite stable. Attaching to that at the center of the mount is a heavy-duty metal 'stand 3D' arm. Cable manager clips are also included with this product giving the finished mounting a clean look. The provided mounting clamp is very versatile and substantial.
The quality of this product gave me confidence out of the box that my iPad would be securely positioned and maintain its position wherever I chose to put it.
A few possible uses for this product include:
+ Mounting in the kitchen for use as a recipe resource.
+ Bedside mounting for watching movies on Netflix.
+ Mounting on your iMac or Windows PC monitor for a second screen.
+ Tabletop mounting for use with a Bluetooth keyboard or for easy reference when doing crafting projects.
The included clamp has padding on it, providing scratch-free mounting to hard surfaces up to 1.5" thick. The arm of the mount can be twisted and formed to work for whatever use you have. The 'C' and 'S' shapes are most common, but others can be easily achieved as well.
Directions for this product are straightforward and include additional tips and tricks to help you effectively use the product.
Included with the directions in the box was a 'back skin' or thin coating for the back of the iPad (sticky, easy to peel off). This is to protect your iPad from scuffs, but if you're like me and have your iPad in a case which protects the back, you really don't need or want this skin on it. The problem is, without it on, the mount may scuff your device.
Overall I really like this product. It has many uses and being able to adjust the iPad, hands-free for 360 degrees is a great thing. For some this product will definitely be a 5 star device.
The reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars is that I have to remove my iPad case and/or if I'm using a Smart Cover with a back cover, I must remove them prior to placing the iPad into the mount. Ideally, the clamp portion of the mount would allow for some customization in holding iPads with thin back covers at least. I like it, but in order to love it, I would not need to 'undress' my iPad to use this mount.
