Though you can use a regular lamp, I love the kosher lamp because I can just twist the frame and cover up the light and sleep in the dark (instead of a mildly lit or brightly lit room as I would with a regular lamp). The colors are great and the new MAX lamp is much brighter than the former Kosher Lamp and makes for a perfect reading lamp everyday or especially, on Shabbos.

I guess they did upgrade this lamp because it's much brighter than I thought it would be. I didn't think you could use CFL in an enclosed space due to heat buildup, but I guess it works for this lamp. The top that you twist never gets hot to touch, even after it's been on all Shabbos.
I got the ivory color it's actually pretty, it's not a solid color as I expected, it almost looks like wood grain. It's a versatile color, it fits in with the colors in all my rooms.
The only issue I have with this lamp is the packaging the foam padding is the cheap stuff that crumbles & sticks to everything & everyone I had to vacuum after unpacking this.
