Contrary to the product description, the lamp base is NOT metal and the lighting is NOT a 3-way, but a single 100w bulb. The base is some sort of resin or plastic looks metallic as long as you are not looking at it too closely. On the plus side, though, the shade is absolutely gorgeous and of a much higher quality than I would have expected for the price. The switch is actually a pull chain corralled by a decorative loop, and though deprived of a three-way bulb, I really like having the chain instead of a switch to turn. The lamp is heavy and solid and won't be easy to tip over, always an important feature for pet owners.
Overall I like the lamp, but it wasn't exactly what I expected.
