I saw this 13 watt desk lamp on sale for $1.99 in my locally-owned hardware store and thought it would be a great replacement for my forty-year-old handed-down desk lamp that takes ten seconds to turn on and is ugly and dim. I was surprised when I set the new one up to see that it's pleasant-looking in a utilitarian high-tech way, with a 'frosted glass' whitish plastic shade, and a nicely weighted base. It's quite adjustable so that I could bounce light off my ceiling if I liked. It provides plenty of light for a desk lamp and turns on in less than one second. The color is fairly white. I use my desk lamp for many hours a day, so it should drop my electric bill.
If you see these this cheap, buy two! You'll find a use for them.

Would you believe the replacement bulb for this lamp actually costs more in stores than I paid for the whole lamp? A family member actually manged to break the bulb after a few days, and rather than pay for a new one, I just ordered another lamp. But we're keeping both and eventually will replace that bulb when we find it cheaper.
The lamp itself is very lightweight, quite tall for this type of lamp, so lights a wide area on desk. (By the way, it is NOT a flexible gooseneck just curved.) Has a line switch about a foot from base of lamp. The shade is translucent white, not dark as pictured. I would recommend it for anyone who needs an inexpensive utilitarian desk lamp.

I'm sure I might have noticed this if I had looked at the listing more closely, but this lamp takes an unusual light bulb. I haven't been able to find any bulbs like it in local stores, but it is available online, so it's not a big deal. The bulb should last a long time anyway. This light is perfect for my nightstand. It's not very poseable, so it might not work as well for a desk. The switch is on the cord, which is something I was trying to avoid, but I've made it work well enough anyway.

I tend to go through desk lamps quickly as I can never replace the light bulbs at a reasonable rate. It's usually cheaper to buy a new one. I am quite pleased with this one so far. I do wish it had a low and brighter setting though and a longer electrical cord. Those my only disappointments with it
