The lamp base is just fine. The shade, which is pretty plain looking to begin with, arrived in bad shape, punched in etc. and is unusable. I replaced it with a shade from another old lamp which I am not using. I don't want to return the whole lamp, but have asked Amazon if I can get any compensation for the bad shade.
