We use our dining room table for daily meals (for 2), for Thanksgivng dinners (for 8) and for work (preparing income taxes). We need bright lights for work and comfortable lighting for meals. This chandelier is quite handsome (especially given the modest price) and, with a dimmer, provides evey level of light from brilliantly bright to cosily soft. We have five 75 watt bulbs in it and the light is more than adequate.We selected the downward facing bowls for ease of changing light bulbs. My only complaint is that the bowls are shallow so don't permit using environmentally appropriate bulbs, which are deeper. But upward facing bowls over our table might not have provided enough light and changing them would have required two people and dangerous contortions over our large table.
