I purchased this lamp not fully realizing that it is a large table lamp. But that just adds to the extremely solid appearance. The base of the lamp is reeded, a heavy texture, almost simulating water. It is open on the bottom, but you wouldn't know that. It theoretically would allow you to put something in there, but it's so elegant on its own, why do that? The name of it says "Clear Blue" which was one of my primary motivators -as I have blue touches throughout my living room. I see no hint of blue, but it is a clear, thick, textured glass. One of the most amazing purchases I've made and I highly recommend. It required the most minor of assembly, and parts were clearly labeled and an instruction sheet filled in the gaps. Took me longer to get rid of the packing material than it did to assemble and place this beautiful light.
