this lamp used to be touch on/off; but the manufacturer has replaced that for an in-line switch. Many websites out there have not updated their details on it yet and some might say it still is a touch on/off but this is obsolete info because the manufacturer doesn't make it anymore like that.
However you can very easily convert this to a touch lamp if you desire it by buying something like this (http://www.amazon.com/GE-18259-Control-3-Level-Dimming/dp/B002DNAH78) I got one at Home Depot and it was not the dimming kind; its just one touch for on and on touch for off, but it works great and it was about 10$
The lamp looks great, definitely nicer looking than the typical bedside lamps
