This lamp arrived well packaged with parts nestled in what appeared to be a custom cut solid block of styrofoam. In spite of what appeared to be good protective packaging, the base of the lamp was scratched in several places when it arrived. It wasn't so bad that it was worth it to me to repackage the whole thing and trade it for another so I'm living with it "as is" but those scratches were disappointing and also revealed that the bronze color coating is pretty thin.

The directions say to unpack the lamp on a smooth surface and I recommend you not ignore that advice. A couple of very tiny set screws are used in the adjustable arm of the reading lamp. A hex wrench is included to tighten the screws which are shipped only loosely inserted. One of those set screws had worked its way out in transit and I discovered it on the floor where I was setting up the lamp. It could easily have been lost in carpeting.

It would have been nice to have received a working halogen bulb for the reading lamp. A halogen bulb was included but the filament in the bulb was broken when the lamp arrived and it (obviously) never worked. A trip to my local home improvement store for a new bulb was required before I had a working reading lamp. That process was somewhat complicated because the included halogen bulb had no markings on it indicating its wattage.

Assembly is pretty straightforward and instructions were adequate. The mechanisms intended to tighten the articulating portions of the reading lamp arm had to be set at maximum pressure and even then, if the lamp was stretched out too close to a horizontal position the weight of the glass shade tended to repeatedly pull the arm farther down past the point at which I was trying to set it.

The base is adequately weighted and the cord was long enough for my intended location. Movement of the lamp tended to result in the main column loosening where it attaches to the base. Once the lamp is in position it should be stable so long as it isn't moved much. Much movement will necessitate frequent retightening or the lamp become wobbly.

Overall the lamp is an attractive unit and I'm keeping it, though I would describe myself as adequately satisfied, though not happy with it.
