I purchased this lamp for my 5 year old's bedroom that is decorated in an "m&m" theme. Not realizing it at the time of purchase, when I got the light it operates from one large red button located on the front of the lamp. The first push illuminates the watt bulb you install and the second push operates a dim light factory installed inside the red & yellow characters to give you a "night light" option. Very cool! Lamp shade is a firm plastic, not fabric like I thought when I bought it but still coordinates in the bedroom beautifully.

This little lamp sits in what was a dark corner where my desk is. I put the night lights on in evening, the bright light on when I do paperwork, and, of course, the red and yellow characters have always been favorites. I guess I'm just an M&M kid.
