This is a really cool contemporary lamp. We looked high and low for a brushed/polished metal lamp, but for some reason, manufacturers still make a ton of chrome garbage.

Okay, this isn't a straightforward installation, but it's due to the design. The three "leveling strings" are probably the biggest pain.

Here are my tips:

1. The strings can be pushed in, but unless you unscrew the coupling on the other side of the base of the lamp, it's not going to let out...which is a good thing. You don't want the lamp crashing down on your table. Adjust the strings to within 2" of the height you want the lamp to hang from the ceiling and try your best to eyeball a level state for the lamp. The extra 2" will give you ample adjustment room once you mount to the ceiling

2. Cut the strings on the other side of the base (underside that will be mounted to the ceiling) so that you have about 5" of excess string. Make sure you put the crimps that were originally on the end of the strings back on the end the wire strings you cut. They keep the wire from fraying.

3. Mount the lamp to the ceiling. This is where you'll really get an idea for how level the lamp is. Now remember, the coupling holding the wires are a one-way system, so you can adjust the levelness of the lamp easily by pushing the string back into the base at the ceiling, but do it a little at a time.

4. Of course, when adjusting strings, make sure to adjust the center wire housing accordingly as well. Once mounted on the ceiling, adjusting the center wire is easy because you can unscrew the coupling holding it to the base and push in as needed to make the wire look taut.

One last note:

If you have a dimmer switch previously installed, this lamp may not work with it...something about the switch not having enough power. We luckily had a standard switch and swapped out. Works perfectly.

Nice, elegant, casting great light. Its true that it isn't the easiest light to install, but its not that hard and in a way, its ingenuosly designed. The main part of the light hangs on 3 wires (and it comes with ALOT of length); the trick is to get all 3 at the right (same?) length; this is made somewhat easier by the mechanism that grasps the wires--you can push any of the 3 wires up into the ceiling piece to shorten its length without having to take the ceiling piece down, knotting or cutting the wires, etc. I imagine the real difficulty would be lengthening the wires--which we did not need to do--as I think you may have to undo the ceiling mount to get the wire back down.

The light is made of metal, the diffuser is made of tempered glass. It has a very unforgiving structure the slightest bend and the fixture will be crooked. My fixture is warped and at this point I cannot tell if it was due to poor manufacture construction or the hours it took to install.
