I ordered this light for use with my vertical mill, I was going to attach it to the column behind the spindle, but the magnet is too weak to hold it on the painted and slightly angled surface. It will hold really well if it is placed on the end of the table, which of course is clean flat steel. The other concern is the location of the switch, it is on the base and not the lamp head which means you have to do more reaching to turn it on and off. I should have bought the one that mounts with screws. That would allow me to drill a hole in the column and mount it over the hole and wire it to come on with the machine. Would have been a ridged mount as well.
The lamp output is excellent and works very well for the intended purpose, it's just that the magnetic base is too weak to use on the surface I had envisioned it for. At least it is "Made In The U.S.A.".
